Porzingis working out for the Knicks today - right now apparently.

I saw the box score for this game and he had 19 pts, only missed 2 shots and shot 3/4 from three. He must have had quite a second half.
This is the second half. Much better shooting.
Had a block on Mardy Collins in the first half.
Really does need to put on the weight.
His team is running those high screens with him all the time.
great touch especially for his size. I mean really really good.
Terrible! rebounder.
pretty slow on defense though good shot blocker if he can move his feet fast enough to recover.
Overall ... if he will be good, it will take a few years.

He's a project. It's a huge gamble because he's not the best shooter. And thats really all you will get from him in the first 2 yrs. He's not a PnR defender right now like WCS is. He might be better than everybody in the draft, but we wouldn't know until year 5. He wants to be tough and doesn't like the soft label....But he's soft and there's nothing he can do about it right now. If he doesn't lose confidence in his first 2 yrs, he will be a great player. But I'm not sure if he has the mental confidence right now. He's in for a rude awakening in the NBA. If we want a shooter, I think Mario is a better shooter with an edge. Kaminsky is a better shooter and only an inch shooter, but much stronger. Right now Kaminsky is better than Porzingis and that will continue over the next few years. I'm changing my mind on Porzingis at 4.....But it's good value later in the draft.

I'm biased with regard to him, obviously.
Actually thought he covered more ground on D than you would figure for a very young 7' player. His body will catch up to his instincts at some point.
For a guy with his length at his age and level of physical maturity, he has excellent footwork- not sure that people actually understand this.
For the most part it looked like he was guarding and running after SFs. That recovery block on Collins in the first half actually caught my eye. In terms of position play, he will be fine at 4, IMO, but he needs the weight for banging down low- you know they will test him early on in the NBA. Has to lower his center of gravity in his defensive stance, too.
Has to get stronger, obviously, and needs a go to shot in the post. Saw him post up a smaller guy on a switch in one video, but the that is something which has to be worked on.
I wonder if their coach was watching GS. I saw an earlier game where they did not seem to run the same offense with all the high screens.

If he checks out medically this is a good draft pick at 4. I think he's a good 4 talent and I have no worries if he neds a year to develop explosion and power

Gallo > Zinger ?

Gallinari was clearly better than Porzingis is today, though hard to compare players at different positions. But I would argue that had it not been for the injuries, a healthy Gallinari would have made our trade for Melo unnecessary.
