Yeah, I agree about the age not being a concern but I am also not going to get excited about a workout. This is like a QBs proday. It doesn't really matter when it's on air.
What I would've like to see is Kristaps and Myles Turner compete. Now that would have been great. Just looking at Turner in the background though really gives a gauge on just how tall Kristaps is though. He seems to be a legit 7 footer.
Also, if he is the real deal he is probably the best big man to pair with Monroe if that is where the Knicks are going. It's why I'd like to go after Turner if the knicks traded down, big men that can protect the rim and then stretch the floor on offense is rare. Towns would probably be the prototypical big but Kristaps and Turner may be able to do it too. Who knows, the draft game is a crap shoot.
To me with Kristaps it is all about if his rebounding and defense/rim protection is real and those things may only become a reality when he is bigger/stronger. Regardless if his shooting is real his athleticism is there where I think he could work as a PnR finisher on offense if his shooting doesn't translate. The ability to have a fall back option is why I like diverse bigs and is one of the reason WCS scares me. He is only a PnR finisher and would have to learn to shoot.

a few months isn't a needle mover but just saying that he's not this guy that has huge projection just because he's young... all the guys around his age have demonstrated a lot more skill and produced which make their upside a lot higher...
he's still raw too which puts him behind the 8-ball... his shooting and size might keep him in the league but the other skills are going to take a long time to develop to be nba proficient...

The age thing, which you've brought up before, makes no sense.
He's been playing 2.5 years in Europe with teams are not just going to give him the ball each time and tell him to shoot.
He's 7'1" and may be growing, still. How much ball handling will he do...and how much ball handling is called for in our offense?
The passing is something he will have to improve, but I have not seen all his games. He has not been in the post a lot, where he would have more passes. He's been a stretch 4 in Europe. Rebounding will come with the weight. He also seems very aware of the Eurosoft moniker that is passed around- don't think it will be an issue.
If you saw the video you would have heard that one coach at one level used to let him play the point.
It was a pretty decent workout, though. Lots of movement for the most part, and some quick release jumper drills.
If he's at 4 and we pass on him, we are making a big mistake, IMO.

WCS is no longer an option of any kind. Not after seeing this kid shooting the ball the way he dies. And using the hook. And watching him run, dunk like the hoop is two feet lover than its supposed to be. This guy eats, drinks, sleeps and dreams basketball. His family is all about basketball, he knows exactly where he needs to improve ( gain weight ) Did I mention that he is a two way player.? This draft has just gotten SWEET!

Unlike what some of us may think, Phil does not expect anything from this rookie pick. So picking Porzingis would be an easy decision. Also when Melo said he rather have a vet running the point.....Sometimes Phil used other guys (especially his lead guys) to say repeat messages that Phil would say. So picking Mudiay would be nice, but if Porzingis is the BPA, he will pick him up.
Whats funny is I just played about a tall guys like Porzingis in the gym.....He wasn't 7'1, but on average, it was similar since most of use were around 6'0 and this guy was about 6'7.....first play, he took me down low, turned around and shot over me like I wasn't even there.......Somebody yelled out SWITCH....
So another guy about my height was guarding him.....but he was pushing him....fouling him.....getting him frustrated. And it worked. Thats my only fear with him. Bigs will be very physical with him because thats his only weakness......How he handles that is key! Most Euros can take that kind of physical play, and they lose confidence. Others turn into Dirk or a young Bargs when he was the man in Toronto. Porzingis has potential to be better than bargs or as good as Dirk. But he could also be the same as Bargs.
I say you have to take this guy over Mudiay, WCS, Winslow, etc.....because of his two way star potential. And with his guard like abilities from the outside, he will be hard to cover. And he will give you those blind side blocks. But I'm not sure he will be strong enough for 1 on 1 post defense. This is a tough call. Mudiay is legit....Porzingis could be legit, but it's hard to pass up that size and skill. Just like it was hard to pass up Bargs or the other dude drafted ahead of Mello. WCS and Kaminsky are also solid.
It's impossible to pick everbody.....And there will be NBA stars we will pass up. Wow.....hate to be in Phil's shoes, but I'm sure hi$ check would help relieve $ome $tre$$.
LA and PHilly brass even have a tougher time, I think, than we do.

Agreed, definitely think pick will have more trade value, especially for teams that want Porzingis (since Phil was actually at the workout, teams have to think Porzingis might not last past 4 now).
it's dangerous to assume that the gap in skill level will fill itself in when players who have already demonstrated that skill level are already on the board.... nba gm's fall for it every year and so does the internet...
the reason darko was picked #2 was because he blew away his workout also... billups was at the workout and he was raving about him too but by the time the first practice rolled around he knew he wasn't gonan be the player everyone thought he was...
picking him this high would be a mistake of epic proportions and i just hope we don't get duped...

Forgetting Porzingis for a second... who would have thought that we might have to "settle" for OK4, the presumptive #1 pick for most of the college year, and a guy whose post-up game has been compared to those of Duncan and Hakeem by some?

Philly can always trade one of their bigs and obtain a guard later in the draft.
Just when I was warming up to drafting Mudiay.....But I can't say I'm surprised.....Just look at my threads on Porzingis in the Case for Porzingis thread.....This video only reconfirmed what I already knew.

I suppose you were on board with the Anthony Bennett pick by the Cavs a few years ago. That sure was a no brainer.
Hard to make predictions about this stuff.
Decent chance that LA takes Russell, and Philly therefore takes Porzingis, because Embiid (if healthy) and OK4 are basically redundant.
All comes down to LA, IMO. They take Russell and things change for us if Philly is not in love with Mudiay.
Nothing written in stone. The big thing is that we are going to get a very good player at #4, at this point, and even though I am less sure of who it will be, I know it will be someone pretty good.

Darko, Bargs, there's a long list of Euro players that never lived up to expectations. But there's also american players as well. You never know....Just hope we have the right scouts to make that call. Gallo wasn't a bad pick (give credit to our international scouts), and if he didn't get injured, he might have lived up to his draft position.
