Id keep Porzingis at 4 but I know the Knicks won't. So we need to identify who does and what would make sense for the Knicks. I think Oraldno is the team that makes the most sense since they are 5 and tried to get him last year.
If he does indeed slip to 4 they should grab him EVEN if they want someone else. If we take him at 4 and Orlando is hemorrhaging for him at 5 we can ask for 2 #1(2016 and 2018) and then we can swap to 5. We need to be smart here and keep the cards in
if we trade down, we have to have made the pick... but what about other picks??
For example
Knicks pick KrisP @ 4
Trade to Orlando for #5 & future 1st
Then can we trade #5 to say Indiana for #11 & players... or would we have to make the pick at #5, say WCS, then trade WCS to Indiana for pick 11 & players????
I guess it depends on just how bad Orlando wants KrisP. I'm not sure they would view that kind of deal as worth it for one spot.

If you felt you were getting a franchise player--would you give up 2 picks?
I feel Porzingis is more important because he fills up a big ? mark on the top #5 mock. I can't see LA or Philly not going for one of the agreed upon top #3 guys. Even if Russell goes to LA, How does Philly say no to Okafor with Embiid possibly out again next year? However Orlando would love Porzingis and are so close to the knicks at #4 I doubt they would be willing to give up anything substantial to move 1 pick up. I am pretty sure Porzingis would be taken #5 by the magic. They are a young team who can spend the next 2-3 seasons letting him grow and he would fit great next to Vucevic. At #6 I am also pretty certain WCS would be taken because Demarcus Cousins loves him and they have that UK connection. So at #7
Knicks In:#7/#12/Trey Burke
Knicks out:#4/Jose Calderon/THjr
Nuggets In:Jose Calderon/#4
Nuggets Out:Ty Lawson/#7
Jazz In:Ty Lawson/THjr
Jazz Out:#12/Trey Burke
with #7 the knicks can pick Winslow, stanley johnson, or Henzonja and with #12 they can choose from Trey Lyles, Kaminsky, Looney, or Payne. All of those players are players they've been attached too. Plus Trey Burke could be a upgrade at PG or another trade piece. #7, and #12 for #4 is a fair deal. Thats two players for a little less than a mil more in starting salary than the #4 pick would make. So Cap Wise its also a smart move. Hell just to make the casuals feel good Denver can throw in the Portland first rounder that is 1-14 protected. The odds of it not becoming a second rounder is low because if LMA leaves Portland is going to immediately Tank.... but it will look good in the newspapers and could be flipped for something else.

No need to identify them, Briggs, they will end up coming to us as we move toward the date of the draft.
But for once, we would be in control. I've been making the case for Orlando moving up to get him for a few days. Maybe they even jump over us to deal with another team...who knows.
Thought I heard that Atlanta wanted him last year.
I would be down for keeping him, but Phil has an idea of what he wants, so...
We, obviously, have no control as to whether he will be available.
I still say there is a very good chance he gets picked before us, and that would mean OK4 or Russell.
Not a bad deal for the Knicks.

Knicks are actually in a good spot. Everyone else has to make the tough call and we are just there to catch whoever falls to us and most likely those players will be desirable for teams behind us. Someone is gonna be calling Phil with offers.

If the Knicks feel Porzingis can eventually be that good and he's there, I hope they do just keep him and develop him.
I'd prefer Russell to magically slip and feel a lot better about Stein in the short term at least, but if Phil and his team thinks Porzingis is that good and he's the pick at 4... I hope they just keep him.
I want one blue chip talent from this draft, not an assortment of decent assets. Even if I don't believe it's the right pick, if they believe it's the right pick, I hope they just go with it and develop who they think is the 4th best player in this draft.
edit: however, you're right - if they think Winslow or Stein or Mudiay is the 4th best player, they should absolutely talk to Orlando and Denver and Sacramento and see how bad they want Porzingis

Knicks need 4 starting caliber players. If they identify someone who can be an all-star at #4 - then take him. Phil should have the guts to follow his convictions - the hell with the media. If they decide to trade down, I would hope they drop no lower than #7 and take a deal that gives them as many draft picks they can for 2015 and 2016. Would you swap with Orlando on a sign and trade - #4 for #5, Tobias Harris and 2016 #1?
i would just swap with the magic and get their 2nd rd pick in this draft.... they would probably jump at it since they have a lot of young guys already and everyone gets the player they want with zero risk...

this is more realistic- you're moving one back- that isn't that big a deal. There is a good player at 4 & 5. Players fall all the time - no need to trade up.

Well i'm sure the Knicks are doing just that with not only Porzingis but also with WCS in making sure they make it clearly look like they're interested in not only those two but any of the players that you know there's teams that are interested in them. That's a big part of the draft game to try to get the best trade offer possible from another team that wants that player badly. I'm not sure we could get the 5th pick in this draft and two more 1st round picks from Orlando but that would be unbelievably awesome if we could get all that for the 4th pick. Please let that trade happen for us.

We can trade our pick before the draft as long as we're getting a 1st round pick in this draft back in the trade.
I think it would be smart if we could get a veteran player like a T.Lawson and a draft pick in a trade for our pick. If we had T.Lawson and Melo and whoever we draft at 7 then that would be a much better looking group to entice a big name free agent then just Melo and a whoever we draft.

I will be ecstatic if we could pull that off but the three team trades are tough to pull off.

Hahahaha yeah a lot of people on here need to stop saying they KNOW anything that will happen in this draft or how any of these kids will be at the next level cause they absolutely 100% do not know and they should start using the IMO or saying "i think". It's really annoying when people act like they know when they don't and that i can say that i know 100%.
