Knicks · If Carmelo wanted Porzingis (page 1)

and he hit the table for him--I think the Knicks would listen. After years of listening to the players talk about moves usually they have it wrong. In this case I would hope Carmelo takes the time to really study Porzingis--give him a call and talk to him. Workout with him. Because if melo was really tight on it if he laid down the gambit here--I think its possible we could get him.

Were NOT winning the title next year--he knows that. The best case scenario is a starting gate and why wouldnt he want the best player--not the best role player or best one way player--but overall the best long term talent? POrzingis played well in the pros already. Im starting to think if he and Hezonja played in the US they both be in the top 3 or 4. Think about it Porzingis is a starting 7-2 C/PF for Florida and he avg 21-9-4-2 where does he go in this draft?

OK BRIGGS you're really getting crazy with these scenarios. We don't really know if KrisP will be there and we can't control that, so it's a moot point to want Melo to be buddying up with him. What would be the point?

As for not winning the title. Melo isn't thinking long term. He's trying to get to a title next year if possible. He's not going to just accept that the team can't contend next year or the year after. He's only got so many years left. He's not gonna care about 3 or 5 years down the road.

Nixluva the Knicks have NO chance of winning a title next year--we just won 18 games--barely. Come on now your a Grandpa now show the wisdom!

It is definitely not a surprise that Melo can influence the management's decision. If he wants Porzingis, I bet they will listen.

It's not about whether the team realistically has a chance to win the Title next year. Melo isn't going to just accept that there's no chance and go for a long term project. You're asking him to just waste dwindling years of his career. That's why he made the statement about 19 yr old PG's. He's only going to be concerned with the few years he has left and hoping the Knicks put the best product together that they can. That's how he's likely to be thinking.

Hopefully, common sense will prevail and a "buddy" pick like Winslow won't win out over a BPA move.

NYKBocker @ 6/17/2015 9:51 AM
I don't think Uncle Phil would care what Melo wants. Phil will pick the player he wants.

Seriously dude? Every team has a chance to win the tittle IMO. The Knicks just need a little luck

BRIGGS @ 6/17/2015 10:06 AM
I think a lot of teams have seen the light on Porzinigis. Bets laid plans--can always be thrown out the window. I think anyone should look at Pau Gasol or Dirks physical appearance at 19--they look the same as Kristaps. Chad for called Kristaps a version of KD Dirk and Pau combined and I think we can all see where hes coming from. Hey until I saw his workout and just how nimble lengthy and skilled he was he was only a passing thought. Hes better than Frank Kaminsky Stein Winslow Mudiay etc... I URGE the Knicks to go for this player as a home run type pick. This is a franchise player here who can play BOTh sides of the ball. Other than Towns is there anyone in this draft who is an adept big highly skilled on both ends who can play the way you need to in the modern NBA? The NBA is changing--you really only need 1 big man to start and that big man cant be slow.

If we're going by who Melo wants, I think the list would be: Okafor, Winslow, trade for a vet.

aka DON'T LISTEN TO MELO

I just want the Knicks and melo to open their mind--it seems like some fans are just against drafting someone from outside the US without really looking at it here.

After Weiss, Barg, and too a lesser extent Gallo the idea of the knicks picking a tall, skinny European player at #4 will get the knicks slaughtered in the paper.

S-L-A-U-G-H-T-E-R-E-D!!!

For Phil to likely do that he would have to beyond a shadow of doubt think Porzingis is the BPA and that they can get him up to NBA speed quickly. So if he picks him at #4 I would have very high expectations for Porzingis.

there would be lots of boos. lots and lots. that shouldn't factor into the Knicks thinking though.

It will though. At the end of the day Phil can't want his draft grade with the fans to be low unless he knows Porzingis is that dude. This is the summer where the majority of Fans are giving him the benefit of the doubt to prove himself. If he picks a guy whose name the fans can't spell let alone pronounce who spends a bunch of next season on the bench because he is getting abused on the court because he is too skinny and that is it for Phil's time in NY.

Porzingis would have to look really really nice out there for Phil to risk that.

The guys who go to the draft are idiots. They'll probably boo whoever is picked unless it's maybe Mudiay or something. If Phil is letting that factor into his thinking, he's wrong.

All those idiots at the draft do are make Knicks fans everywhere look bad. It's one reason the rest of the league hates us.

The knicks sent 7 guys including Phil to his Vegas workout. They have scouted him all season- you re not the first and only person to think about drafting him!

Phil has been slaughtered most of the year- at this point I don't think he gives a shit. Thats the problem idiot fans have, they cry loudly about everything so eventually they just get tuned out

THat step back move Zing did in his work out for a 7-1 guy had me thinking............

As far as Melo buddy love we just have to see if Phil panders to him or is building. The whole
"Soft euro weis" thing is dumb. We have bombed out on plenty of American players over the years as well.

This Euro sht is stupid. Bottom line if he played at a school in the US he wouldve dominated and maybe be pick #1.

I agree that if both of them played even one year in college here the mock drafts would be looking much different than they look now with both of them being top 5 on most lists. I also agree that if Melo went to bat for Porzingis with Phil and told Phil he knows the kid is gonna need a year or two that Phil would definitely listen but the problem is i think Melo is all about getting the help in right away that's needed to compete right away, like he'd rather Phil trade the pick for veteran help if it was his choice cause Melo knows his time of winning a championship is getting thinner and just like his comment about not wanting to play with a rookie point guard cause he knows a rookie PG needs time tells me that what i'm thinking is true. Melo is ready to start competing next year and doesn't want to wait so i wouldn't give him that choice unless Phil is thinking the same way.
