Knicks · Phil Jackson: LeBron James travels half the time he catches the ball (page 2)

Pistol Pete brought in street ball, with his dribbling skills.
Iverson enhanced it with the known cross over carry move thats everybody does today. You don't really see the carry unless a big dude does that move. But us 6ft and under guys get away with it because we do it quicker.....
Phil is fighting an uphill battle and I'm not sure if he's just high sometimes and goes on a rant, or if it's part of his plan to keep the Iso ballers away from him and only add coachable system players. He's trying to be the Spurs of the east coast. I hope it works, because 80 percent of the dominating athletes play iso ball.
classy GM's don't call out other teams and other players especially when his team is the shittiest in the league.
its like when a fat guys makes fun of other fat people even if the other guy is not nearly as fat as him.

We're talking about Lebron. It's more like Fat Albert making fun of (a young) Arnold Scwarzenegger's body

well ... not just about lebron but about cleveland who actually played quite ugly but were missing Love and Kyrie.
not sure if they could have played a cleaner offense and had a better chance. I think their only chance was to dirty it up.
that being said, I really did not like a lot of the street ball that cleveland plays with Kyrie, Lebron and JR. Its like Blatt is scared to tell Lebron what to do or how the team should play.
Either way ... its beyond insane that Phil keeps yapping ... he is so damn in love with himself and his KGB ideas.
But I hope he focus on the Knicks stuff as the first priority. ![]()
Please do not mess around now.
Phil is really speaking the truth. One day when all of his doubters stop high fiving each other about how crotchety he is and when this team is playing serious basketball, then everyone will fully understand what he's been talking about. I'm really disappointed in Knicks fans not embracing what he's talking about given our history. Phil was part of one of the most pure basketball teams in NBA history and what he wants to do is build that kind of team here for us to enjoy. Geez! Get over yourselves if you don't appreciate what he's trying to do.
We've talked about how great it was to watch teams like the Spurs and Warriors and Phil is working to create that kind of basketball team here. This stupid ass hate for the Triangle only comes for a lack of understanding of just what it is all about. TEAM F'ING BASKETBALL!!! BALL AND PLAYER MOVEMENT AND UNSELFISHNESS. Come on man this is what we should all want!!! Nothing he's talking about is bad for this franchise or its fans. Stop buying into the media hate and feeding frenzy and pay freaking attention to what is really going on. Phil is not trying to mess up the team. He's trying to make it the best it can be.
This isn't a money grab by Phil, he's trying to freakin help us. Some fans act like the cat being saved from a tree who doesn't understand he's being rescued and starts clawing and biting his savior. It's unbelievable.

Thank You for compliment.
Babies are calling thing as they are... adults always see the world as they want it to be.
LeBron had no choice but to carry the team, GS plays team ball, and half the league was carrying the ball until they started cracking down more.
If Phil is going to talk this much about the state of the game and the triangle, I wish he would put his money where his mouth is and get back to coaching. If not I wish he would stop talking trash until the franchise hes in charge of turning around isn't a joke anymore.

People are nuts cuz they don't realize just how exciting it's going to be watching the Knicks once they have upgraded talent and have mastered the system and developed chemistry on both ends. I can't wait to watch real basketball being played by this team.

Unfortunately I doubt if the thing will go smooth as hell like this- "upgrade talent and have mastered the system and developed chemistry on both ends". Sometimes hard to put these into practice. The statement is perfectly correct I agree but it may takes few years to achieve.

Well sometimes it comes together really fast. It's really up to the players and their collective BB IQ and buy in. Nothing about the Triangle is hard if you just go with the flow and see what the Defense does and use that against them. You have to just keep moving and passing and the opening will present itself. It's only when players panic and get impatient that they struggle.
It's real simple! If you go to pass and the D overplays you can go in a different direction with the pass. If you move and the defense moves to stop you that opens up your teammate. If your teammate has the ball and your man turns his head you move to the open spot for the pass and either shoot, drive or pass. The decisions aren't really hard. It's getting the timing down and the movements, spacing and footwork. All of that comes with repetition. After a hundreds of times of receiving the pass looking in the post then look right, then look left, before you go, it becomes 2nd nature.

Yes right. But all in all we got to have the right pieces and to acquire the right pieces is wholly subject to the decision of our "management" right now. As long as you have confidence in them it is fine and I hope they can do a decent job here.
Having said that, I won't expect high on this and expect it comes together so fast. It takes time to gel.
Please just stop whining and please just focus on the draft. It will be helpful.
FistOfOakley wrote:the problem with the triangle or it's concepts is that you have everyone in the offense that can shoot and pass... and most big guys can't do either let alone do one of them...the reason these pnr offenses work is that it puts the ball in the hands of the best ballhandler most of the time... you want your best player making the decisions...
if you can find the players... multiskilled and versatile.. it can do wonders.. but it's just so hard to find.. that's why teams with less talent look horrible in the triangle...
Is that a problem that the triangle needs players who can do a bit of everything? Could Rodman shoot? If you can't play the game of basketball by the time you hit college, perhaps you should work on your game. This isn't even a defense of the triangle, as what Phil is talking about is the game itself and it extends to what the triangle (can) bring.
Is it wise to have one player being the do it all? Yeah, if his name is Jordon or Lebron, but I select team ball most of the time.
I disagree that it is hard to find multi-skilled players. When we measure via statistics it is easy to overlook them as we are used to "He is the top scorer but can't rebound. He is the top rebounder but can't shoot.", etc. The players are there for the triangle but not many are capable of seeing them as we are all in fish bowls.

That's what I'm guessing too. in a few weeks he is going to meet with FA's and it wont hurt for him to have the media on his nuts (good or bad) leading up to it. Phil is one of the draws for playing for the knicks. There is no reason why he shouldn't be in the spotlight some himself.

But never a foul then a travel call. there's no excuse for traveling and palming no matter what. they even changed the rules and now allow an extra step after you pick up the dribble. but in the last few years i have noticed that most of the time, that in catching the ball they all travel, and in putting the ball on the floor they all travel. wade is especially notorious for this. all it does is promote one on one streetball. it makes the game ugly and difficult to watch. bring back the hand check! jackson has a legitimate gripe. lets hope silver has the balls to undo the damage stern has done to the game.
