I agree except for Hernangomez. I want to give him an F because Christmas was there but he was projected at the spot and I think getting a pick that high in this draft was pretty awesome. I give Hernangomez a C. If it was Christmas I would give the pick an A

Projection means nothing. Can you explain one skill he has for the triangle offense? He is not a defender hes not a passer hes not lengthy. Hes a bully player--rebounds and makes 1/2 of shots that are point blank--the others are blocked at a high rate--TO% is VERY high. The NBA is a FAST league--to fast for this guy. I dont feel the Knicks need any wasted space when there were NBA players that we couldve used available.

I have only seem a little bit and was watching Kristaps. I don't know his game at all. I wanted Christmas but I do think the Knicks scouted him.

Porzingis - A. Huge skill level and upside. Pipe the F down Stephen A. We swung for the fences with the pick which was the right thing to do. Feel bad for him that he got booed--doesn't look like that's gonna throw him. I like that he laughs and says he's not some soft Euro. who can't play, as if he can't wait to show people how wrong they are about him.

Grant - A. Solid B+ for the player with a chance to be higher but this gets an A because the trade to get him was so good. THJ was no big time player -- can't believe we were able to turn him into Jerian Grant. THJ could easily be replaced by any number of talented young SGs out there, starting with Ricky Ledo.

Willy Hernangomez - B. First off, Kudos for landing another pick that high. I really wanted to see us target some guard help in round 2 (Joe Young, Pat Connaughton) but I still like this pickup more than most I guess. We needed big men -- this guy's young, big and skilled. Looked at a lot of tape--not the most athletic guy in the world but I definitely don't see a plodder. I actually think he moves around well. I think he'll rebound, he'll defend positionally, he'll score in the post with both hands on some decent-looking moves, get to the line and make his FTs, and he does have a mid-range J. Reminds me of Marcin Gortat/Nikola Pekovic/Tiago Splitter -- all 3 of those guys are successful NBA players. I think he'll be a useful rotation player that will be able to contribute sooner rather than later. That he already has some chemistry with Porzingis is an added bonus.

WaltLongmire @ 6/26/2015 3:23 AM
Anyone who thinks they can give anything but a predicted grade to any pick at this point in time needs to take some kind of perspective pill.

I would go with an A- as a predicted grade, but it could be an A based on how our 3 picks develop, or it could be less if guys don't reach the potential some believe they can reach.

Time to wait and watch, not wail and whine.

Markji @ 6/26/2015 5:28 AM
A
Porzingis - I give Phil an A for what he did with the hand he was dealt. After the big 3 were taken (I really thought for awhile that OK4 would fall to us) he took the BPA. KP has the most upside of any of the other players; is also hard worker; positive attitude; and is the best shooter.

Jerian Grant for Hardaway was a brilliant move. Grant was the leader on Notre Dame and the reason they made it to the Elite 8 in the tourney - lost to Ky in the last 5 sec. Excellent passer and ball handler; shooter; scorer. High BB IQ. This move is why I give Phil an A. This was the real pick that he had control over and made happen.

Willy Hernangomez - don't know anything about him so no judgement.

His skill is he played with Porzinigis for a few years and will be his buddy on the bench as he spend his first year on the knicks. If Zing starts his career on the bench its going to be brutal so I guess it was a wise idea to draft him some emotional support. I expect nothing from this pick beyond cheering from the bench.

Prozingis has talent but he is extremely risky at 4. If phil doesnt hit on this pick its gonna hurt especially since we have no picks next year

Bro we aren't a 25 win team..

You whine more than a little fucking baby without its binky. Why don't you start up another thread so you can complain some more about shit. Fucking female.

We don't do this here. You can debate his stance but this goes over the line. We have a core that's been here a long time and we got rules.

A draft is not graded for years, so chill out.

First thoughts are that NY is accumulating talent. 2 bigs and 1 small. Smart. The draft is not an issue for 2 years now, so the next step in rebuilding is Free Agency. Let's go!

We didn't have any picks last year... Phil came away with 3 picks. We had 1 pick last night... Phil grabbed another two. Sucks we don't have our own pick while rebuilding, but for the first time in a long while, I'm confident we'll be active on draft night.

I agree. Don't know enough about Hernangomez to give him a grade (analyst on ESPN didn't exactly give him a ringing endorsement), but I was hoping for Christmas. Definitely stings that we traded for the pick right before be was taken.

From ESPN Insider
Winners and Losers in the Draft-

Winners

New York Knicks

Hours before the draft if looked like the Knicks were going to screw this up. The team seemed unsure of itself if Karl-Anthony Towns, Jahlil Okafor and D'Angelo Russell were off the board. While Kristaps Porzingis was the best talent left on the board, no one, including me, really thought they'd actually take him. Knicks fans may have booed, but the Knicks may have very well gotten the second best talent in the draft. He may not dominate in Year 1, but Porzingis' talent is off the charts.

I also loved the trade that send Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Wizards for the draft rights to Jerian Grant. Grant is a big combo guard who can do everything. He's a good athlete, can get to the basket and is a solid shooter. He can defend multiple positions. I think personally, he was the third best point guard prospect in the draft. Athletic big man who can stretch the floor and protect the rim? Check. Versatile, high IQ point guard with size? Check. The Knicks got a lot better tonight.

Nalod @ 6/26/2015 8:08 AM
I don't like "grades" and sometimes a gift of Winslow falling can get you an "A".

Why dont you knock it off Holfresh has been here a LONG time. If he feels he needs to btch let him get it out of his system, Its just a message board. Accept that there are some people who may be disappointed its been a long time. You came on just a few days ago just like a few new guys who just listed up in 2014 who have been obnoxious and personal to others. I would say respect the terms of service and the decorum if you dont mind.

Shut up Briggs. You've been wrong about everything that's come out your mouth.

He was pretty correct about your obnoxious behavior.

A++,Phil hit a home run for us last night. Just be patient, he'll coach them up.

He's besties with our no.4 pick....of whom I have similar reservations. The only encouraging thing about the 2nd coming of the poor man's Josh Harrellson is that it signifies we will spare no avenue to build an environment that Kristaps is comfortable in. We'll need to do that because he CAN NOT bust. If he does, heads must roll.

...this M.O. predates Phil. We only had Iman Shumpert's pick in 2017 and walked away with Josh Harrellson and Jerome Jordan. We only had Danilo in 2008 and also obtained Toney Douglas. The trend continues....

Wrecks of 2010 when we took Landry Fields and Andy Rautins ahead of Lance Stephenson to me. I don't mind Hernangomez but not at the expensive of Christmas. I think that kid could be a Ben Wallace/Larry Sanders type player.

If all you were wanting from Winslow is defense then no worries cause we have a better defender than him in Thanasis coming in next year.

Hernangomez looks like a good faith pick to make Porzingis feel more at home. A better pick there and I would have given Phil an A.
