Not sure if the plan was to stash him in Europe. I have read a lot of speculation that one of the reasons he was drafted was to help Kristaps' transition to the Knicks next season. Can't do that. That money can only be used in trades. There's a separate rule regarding how much money teams are allowed to use in buyouts but I don't know offhand how much it is.

It's kind of interesting that they were able to make the move without giving up the 3m. I think a trade involving Calderon is coming.
