Thats who he reminds me of! Enes Kanter. Good low post player, solid rebounder, piss poor defender.

His coach was on Lupica- said there is a little Scola in his game.

I see Scola in his game as well. Except Willy is more physical.

Careful. I got bashed for suggesting he is a poor man's Gasol.
are you guys in the right thread?
I'm talking about when Gasol entered the league not Gasol now. People forget where players started from sometimes.

Thank you. That's all I was saying too. We know he's not as developed as Marc is now.

Also, Marc had a better feel for the game and could handle slightly better. He too came in at 22 y/o the same age GH will be when he comes over next year.

Saw someone compared him to ZaZa which I take as a compliment.

I think he's got way more actual skill than Za Za. Yeah he's physical but he's not just a big lug. He actually has come skills.

Guillermo won't be coming over till 2016/2017 it looks like:
Hernangomez’s buyout is too hefty so he will stay one more season. Porzingis said they communicate often and was excited to hear of the selection.

Week before the draft he was the 25th pick in NBADraft.nets mock draft. I remember clicking on the profile as he came out nowhere and into the first round.

More on Willy,
Matt Kamalsky of draftexpress.com says: “Standing 6’11 with a 7’1.5 wingspan and a 255-pound frame, Hernangomez has nice size for a center. He’s not a particularly explosive athlete, but moves fairly well for his size and has plenty of potential to continue getting stronger. Hernangomez’s physical profile, coupled with his budding offensive skill level makes him a serviceable, fairly well-rounded offensive center, even if he still has plenty of room to grow. Half of Hernangomez’s possessions come from a balanced diet of post ups and rolls to rim, with another significant portion of his offensive production coming from cuts and put backs. He was the only player in the ACB to use 80 total possessions in both situations according to Synergy Sports Technology—evidence of how his ability to exploit his size and mobility helped him on the offensive end.”
In 3-4 years he will be a fan favorite. Not a star, but the kind of guy who is going to be in the mix all the time.
You see the photo of him with K. Martin and you see an extremely youthful look- he has some definition, but he looks young for his age.
I would readjust my expectations for him if he really works on his body and the maturation process kicks in, and if he is a good learner.
He already does the P&R stuff, but he has a back to the basket game, too.
He might actually be our unofficial "#1" pick next year, if he stays in Spain and improves, and is able to get immediate minutes next year when he does come over.
I think Phil was thinking a lot about his friendship with KP, but maybe I overlooked Hernangomez' potential.
M. Gasol has carved out a nice career with skills, brains and average athletic ability. He might be the model for Willie to emulate.
Anthony called KP a "steal," and many of us have said the same about Grant, but maybe Hernangomez eventually becomes the steal from this draft.

Doesn't that contradict your position against drafting the Zingatron? According to most draft boards he was top 5, what then is your issue against him?

There’s no real surprise here. That said, multiple NBA scouts who have spoken with TheKnicksBlog.com and SNY.tv have said that if Hernangomez were guaranteed to come over this coming season, there’s no doubt he would have been a first round pick.
Now this was something I had not heard before.
So you might make a case that we had 3 #1s, this year, or that when he comes over next year, with more strength and experience, it will as if we are getting a 20-30 1st.

http://prospectsforthenbadraft.blogspot.com/2015/04/scouting-kristaps-porzingis-and.html hope it works scouting report for both players before draft good read
Hes not a scorer like him but he moves around the court like luis scola. Hes doesnt play above the rim but hes affective. Typical backup center you would see on the 90s bulls. Phil was a roll player himself so he knows how to fill the bench with reliable talent. Plus he gives KP a buddy to lean on while in ny. Phik loves those win....win picks.
And for the record i said this b4....picking 4th might be a blessing in disguise. KP has the potential to be more impactful to his team overall in multiple categories than the guys picked ahead of him.

He will be Kurt Thomas on offense

BPA on draft night is subjective. Every team has a different opinion.

(Ex-Knicks scout Tim) Shea also commended Jackson on trading for the rights to 6-11 center Guillermo Hernangomez, 21, who will spend one more season in Spain, likely shifting from Sevilla to Real Madrid.
The Knicks purchased the Sixers’ 35th pick for cash and their 2020 and 2021 picks. Shea called him a “blue-collar’’ player who will become a “solid rotation player in two years’’ and thought San Antonio would snap him up late in the first round. Hernangomez practiced with the Spanish national team last summer with Jose Calderon.
“His father was a player. His mother was a national team player, his brother was a player,’’ said Shea, who mentors Spanish coaches. “He’s strong, loves playing, bangs inside. Not a great athlete, not quick, but he’s a banger. He gets fouled a lot. An important statistic in the [Spanish league] is how many times you commit fouls to get fouled. It’s double the times he gets fouled.’’
