Riiiight, when the market doesn't buy whatever you are peddling it's the market that's a fault. couldn't possibly be what you were offering could it?
i'm pretty sure they weren't lying about the hornets offer... and phil did say he did have some offers contingent on if russell or okafor dropped... so would've been interesting either way..
Always interesting to hear how these guys are thinking, although I'm not sure I believe everything they say.
Interesting that love for Porzingis and Kaminsky might have stymied his plans.
I think he is talking about Charlotte, and not the Knicks, by the way, but it doesn't really matter at this point.
If we could've landed the 16th, 28th and the Nets' unprotected 2016 first round pick for the 4th but didn't, Phil needs to be fired. We literally could've walked away with Sam Dekker and Kevin Looney AND STILL added Jerian Grant! That'd be a far better draft for a team in our predicament than what we did.
I think the offer has only been reported as being offered to the Hornets but they wanted Frank. Apparently they think he can fill the role vacated by mc Roberts.
There were 2 teams trying to move up for Kaminsky and I think he couldve went 7 to Denver(Phoenix) if Mudiay did not fall. Fans wouldve screamed if we picked Kaminsky but NBA teams wanted him and were willing to pay for him.
So this thread is based on a conjecture of what "may" have been offered to justify firing Phil? Got it.

Looney might need back surgery at some point, by the way- that is why he dropped so far- got to read up on this stuff.
Surprised at the Dekker drop, maybe he didn't show certain things in workouts- he has always been seen as a guy who should do better than he does. I like him a lot, but there is a reason why he dropped.
You really don't know exactly what was being offered to the Knicks, do you?

No way, not interested. I'm not a Porzingis fan but trading 4th overall for two mid-round firsts and another at the bottom of the draft is worse.
Personally, I think there was a realistic chance for Prozingis to have dropped out of the top 10 had Boston went with Winslow at 4.
Again I couldn't see the Magic taking him at 5 because they draft gritty, defensive guys that are NBA ready, which Porzy is none of. I couldn't see the Kings taking him because they are dumb and are trying to win-now. I couldn't see the Nuggets taking Porzy because Mudiay was higher on their picking order. Couldn't see the Pistons taking him because Van Gundy has tended to be averse to taking on projects. The Hornets definitely were not taking him because they only take 3-4 year college players only. At 10, he becomes more of a realistic pick but Riley tends to shy away from projects and European players, so if he's taken here, I think it is part of a trade. I got a feeling though that they would've taken Cameron Payne instead and call it a day. The Pacers still take Myles Turner if he's available; Cameron Payne if he's not. The Jazz definitely take Prozy if he's available.
At 12 though, I definitely think the Knicks could've traded back up using the 16th and 28th to get Kristaps. We still would've walked away with the same players but would've had the benefit of having the Nets' 2016 1st round pick too!
Holy shit! The Starters are reporting that the Celtics were offering 6- count'em 6- draft picks. WTF are we doing?

Think about the future man. If Lopez opts out and leaves the Nets, that's a lottery pick we'd have in 2016. Even with Lopez, there is a very distinct possibility that its a lottery pick especially if we field a playoff team next season!
And according to THE STARTERS on NBATV, the Celtics were offering 6 draft picks! So that is 3 potential picks (probably 2nd rounders) that need to be factored in!

But the knicks had #4, #19, this year, in the grand scheme of thing this year they did a lot better by not dealing with the Celtics. The brooklyn pick next year is tempting but you can't gamble and always expect to come out on top. BK is just as likely to pull a 8th seed as they are to be a high pick.

Also, does Looney ave asthma?
With some picks being something like,
Probably with BS protections like Philly does, like TOP 16 protected for 3 years then if not 2 2nd rounders
Not sure what the other draft classes will be looking like but this draft was suppose to be pretty strong
And probably some 2nd rounders in there for 6 picks
So, may sound much better than it actually was
Remember when we were dealing with CA during the ALL STAR BREAK, Net's were OFFERING 6 1st rounders to acquire CA, yeah RIGHT!
Funny thing is thing is that Denver was able to make out with more value than just 6 1st rounders out of the CA deal by FAR by dealing with Dolan and CA got his extra year salary, just so he could opt out of it
So in theory, had he waited till the OFF SEASON to sign with the Knick's at least as a threat, we would have been paying something closer to what Chris Paul was acquired for with Clippers/New Orleans
But if CA did sign in the off season, it would have winded up with the same amount of years and NOT MUCH A DIFFERENCE, by finishing out the year, he would get a raise for the extra year of experience, despite a drop off in bonus's from the new CBA, I believe it was less than 10m, with a 3year guarantee, 4th year player option....
CA could have also been greedy if he wanted, following in Lebron's foot steps, with 1 and 1...
Most importantly, we would not have had Billups, and saved our amnesty for STAT (very likely)
And CP3 would also be in play and a lot of our past 5years and the other Clipper team would have had different chain reactions
A lot of teams as we know it would have been much different, including Iggy going to Denver *trade* and then leaving to GS

The report is that this was offered to the hornets when Winslow was still available at 9. No reports are out there that any other team in the top 9 had this offer. Your question should be asked to mj

The draft is a gamble, any way you cut it. Who we took at 4 was an incredible gamble and there are no gaurantees that he pays dividends. Knowing that, I would've put a premium on quantity as opposed to quality. Who knows! We might've been able to trade back up if Porzy fell, which was likely considering who was picking after us.

So you honestly think that the price-tag for the 4th pick was less than the price-tag for the 9th pick?

It wasn't offered. What has been reported is Sullinger and a pick and that as the draft went on the Celtics became more enamored with Winslow and made a more lucrative offer to the Hornets when Winslow was still on the board at 9. If the Celts like Winslow that much they should make an offer to the Heat.
