Knicks · Most Likely Roster? (page 2)

Fuck Jason Smith and his 15 foot jumper. 0 defense, 0 rebounding, 0 post game, clumsy passer. I will be very annoyed if he is brought back.
EwingsGlass @ 6/28/2015 1:42 PM
Deandre Jordan would allow you to put Zinger in the starting lineup sooner rather than later. But it leaves like 7.5 mm to fill all other spots on the roster. I still can't get over the lack of defense at SF in any lineup that starts Melo at SF. Makes more sense if you can trade or stretch Calderon. He's like the 3rd maybe 4th best pg on the roster (depending on whether Shved comes back). If that 7.5 becomes 10.5 or 11, you have maybe Danny Green or Demarre Carroll. This would make Zinger a weak side help defender with his length and comparative quickness... Starts looking more solid

Grant
Green
Anthony
Zinger
Jordan

The question on this roster is whether Grant is a 40% or a 31% 3 or shooter. This is probably my dream squad though.

EwingsGlass @ 6/28/2015 1:45 PM
Bargs would be a great stop gap for Zinger til he is ready, but I don't think Bargd takes 2 years @ 2.5m per (the room exception)
crzymdups @ 6/28/2015 1:50 PM
Elton Brand is a savvy older PF and lockerroom guy we could probably get for cheaper than David West. Provides a little Porzingis insurance, can platoon with him.

HahA you have same thoughts as myself. I like the pick of Grant but there will be question marks. I know everyone has seen the bounce up jam he had but realistically he's an average athlete. His shot can go south on him and he is not against taking some bad shots for sure. My question with him is

A can be finish against nab length

B can he drive on nba athletes

C willhe shoot the ball much better than he did as a senior

D canhe defend high end athletes

I would've solidified our perimeter defense for a decade with Andersen and Powell I just believe strongly this is where the game is going and we had 2 remarkable targets but chose a different direction.

Also agree with you here I'm not against bringing back bargs

Would you guys really want DeAndre Jordan at 19mill? He is great defensively but his offense is limited to putbacks and alley-ops.

His PER (21) at the usage rate (13.8%) is pretty amazing. Leading the league in rebounds and blocks... Rebounds on a team stacked with athletes. His Win Shares on that usage rate is the most impressive. In short, he is a guy who does not need the ball to be effective. Allowing Zinger to play stretch 4 may allow Zinger to truly excel as a stretch 4. Lobs from Zinger to Jordan would be virtually unstoppable. In short, I don't NEED his offense. But I do NEED his D.

I agree with this.

If Phil can work his voodoo on DeAndre and get him to come here... I mean, it could be amazing.

I can realistically say that DeAndre Jordan on the Knicks brings him closer to the Finals than DeAndre Jordan on the Mavs does. East v West for one thing. Also, what do the Mavs have left cap wise with Dirk, Parsons and DeAndre signed up? Not much. And Dirk is heading into what, year 19? Melo is younger, the Knicks have KP and an actual backcourt. Mavs here zero backcourt with Ellis leaving.

You can make a real case that the Knicks are better for DeAndre, contention-wise. Not sure if you can make the same case over the Lakers or Clippers, but you can make the case he'd get more shots in the Triangle and have a far better chance being a larger than life star in NY and an all-star in the East, as opposed to an also ran in LA.

If I am Jordan, I go to the Lakers or back to the Clips. Knicks are my number 3. Basically, I am praying that Aldridge chooses the Lakers and Gasol to the Spurs. That forces Jordan to choose between NY and Dallas. The Clips will sign Chandler to fill that void - I don't think they want Jordan at 20mm. I could be wrong on that though.

Dallas will be chasing Jordan hard. I think Jordan's role is more important in NY. So, I hope he comes here. A discount would be nice too, but Melo's unwillingness to take a discount set the precedent.

There's no way DJ takes a discount. He wants to be a bigger star. Big stars get the big deals. One of our only hopes of getting him is that NY, Phil, Triangle, media exposure, lack of big men in the East make him a big star.

Yeah, I agree about Lakers and Clippers. Clippers supposedly want him for what it's worth. Ballmer said he'd max him.

I did math on this, barely enough money for Weet and Monroe. How are signing Ellis too?

y2zipper @ 6/28/2015 9:54 PM
I'd rather have Monroe than DeAndre Jordan. Monroe is a younger, more skilled player that's younger and he costs less money.

You forgot Avi Lee that would be the perfect complement to your lineup -defensively.

wargames @ 6/29/2015 12:40 AM
Calderon/Galloway/Grant
Danny Green (or Carroll)/Shved/Thanasis
Melo/Early
West/KP/Layberie
R Lopez/J Smith

Figure KP plays about 20+ min next season behind west.

That's a team that compete in the east. Its not a world beater, but it can hold its own in the East and its built as much to ease KP into a larger role as putting better players around Melo who play defense.

DeAndre Jordan is like one year older than Greg Monroe.

I could certainly live with that team. It'd be a major major improvement from the past two years.
