Knicks · Hypothetical trade : Melo and Calderon for Love and Thompson. Comments? (page 1)

Cleveland perspective 1) Melo is a better fit in Cleveland than Love and considered RIGHT NOW the better player 2) Cavaliers paid a price for Love and wouldnt want to see him leave in fa with nothing to show 3) LeBron wants to win NOW and his pairing with Melo in Olympic competition was complementary and productive , Melo scored and James led 4) Varajeo is back as is Mosgov and Cavs drafted pf Christmas so losing Thompson is covered

NY perspective 1) Love is 26 not 31 2) Love can assume the role of lead player but doesnt require ball as much 3) Love is mediocre defender but good rebounder on a poor rebounding team , Thompson also helps and provides a low post scorer4) Love may be a better triangle fit than Melo . 5) A young combo of Grant, Galloway and perhaps Shed 6) small savings est $ 2.4 can man point 6) get rid of Calderon 16/17 $

Love perspective: A sign and trade provides him the most $ and NY provides him a fresh start and stage even in a rebuilding

Melo perspective : He joins LeBron for a championship shot and leaves a team rebuilding

The monies work so ponder:

Love est $21 (s/t 5/$110) and Tristan Thompson $6.9 (varajeo is back and they drafted Christmas) for Melo $22.9 and Calderon $7.4. Trade within the 125 % trade rule, Cavs get arguably the better star and fit , Knicks get younger star and rid of Calderon salary in 16/17 as Thompson deal ends this year.

I don't like Love + Carmelo, but I might like Love instead of Carmelo...

Id love to trade melo but im looking more for picks and young assets maybe on their rookie deals

That's not happening. Also both Thompson and Lpve are free agents. Pretty sure you cant do a double sign and trade.

This deal can't be done because Restricted free agents can't be signed and traded (Thompson's status) and there's no extra year or extra money for Love in a sign-and-trade, so he won't get his fifth year even if he's traded.

Alrighty then, my bad- didnt realize Thompson was rfa. Id sub Varajeo in at 9.6 (no cost savings then) but one site has him under contract thru 16/17 while other has 16/17 as a team option

Would prefer trading him to Houston, out West than Cleveland

There are some players in Houston and more draft picks that I have interest in to give us better value
Not sure if I trust Kevin Love with a bad back and Thompson without Lebron, especially at a MAX

really like DMO for the Triangle

DMO
Terrence Jones
Corey Brewer/KJ McDaniels
Pablo Prigs
Sam Decker
Koustas Pap *unguaranteed salary* 5m
even would take Terry if needed in a sign and trade with only first year guaranteed since it needs a 3year deal, partial guaranteed actually and waived right away so FREE MONEY for Terry
with us taking less salary with 150% rule

5-6 draft picks, 3-4 2nd rounders

Would leave Houston with plenty of pieces to still contend with CA, Harden, Beverely, Ariza, D12, some backup PF/C's, Corey Brewer's bird rights, Josh Smith *gotta convince him to take less and reward him after they get his early bird rights, MLE 6m
