The Brooklyn Nets had long been considered "strong frontrunners" to re-sign center Brook Lopez after he declined a $16.7 million player option for next season, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, and the team made its commitment to the big man clear early Wednesday morning. According to Wojnarowski, Lopez and the Nets are finalizing the structure of a deal that will pay him $60 million over three years. The second year of Lopez's deal will be a player option, per Wojnarowski, which will afford the big man options should he opt to chase another rich payday next summer thanks to an impending cap spike brought on by the league's new television deal.
Furthermore, Wojnarowski noted the deal "includes some protections for the Nets should a recurrence of Lopez’s past foot issues sideline him again."
wanted nothing to do with him, but maybe his brother comes over now that he has a little incentive

Your just figuring it out now?
but then, you have his Xrays and prognosis from his team of docters? He had a full season and not all foot injuires are Yao Ming like.
Kurt thomas played for years after a bad spell.
The Nets have a clause that does not have to pay him full if the foot breaks.
They signed Thad Young. Very good pairing and very good return from KG after well documented insane trade with Boston.
Wait, the won more than 17 games last season right? Yeah, I thought so.
They are insane, but they stole the crazy tax paying under achieving thing from the knicks!!!

it's not just the contract and the feet it's their core of lopez, williams, johnson. they are guaranteeing their mediocrity: and that is insane.

They do have clause if he gets into anymore foot trouble

Thad young and Bropez were awesome down the stretch. I suspect one of Deron or Williams will be traded as well. They can't dig out of the hole in one season but they can move on.
I agree nothing they can do about changing the franchise overnite.
In retrospect they really did swing for the fences but the chemistry never happend. Kidd was a good hire and Hollins is ok. Nets have been changing coaches like crazy, overpriced talent that never gelled and paying taxes. They are Isiah's knicks!!!
Deron kinda of caved in under the pressure as well. Insane moves but I do like it when a team goes all in, I find it very interesting!
Remeinds me of Karl Malone and Payton to the lakers and Kobe on a massive ego tear that year.

even if healthy he doesn't have what it takes to be a core player on a title team. the dude is soft and has yet to figure out how to use his length, and he is not really any good at defending either. he should be better than he is in his 7th season. i recall he wanted to model his game on tim duncan.

Yep but the East is awful they get some breaks they could get into the 2nd round

and the nyets are simply contributing to that continued inferiority with these types of contracts to these types of players.
i mean making it to the second round is not a big deal in this 30-team league and where 16 teams make it to the playoffs. unless you get 7 games out of a second round appearance you are a pretender.
They can not afford to let him walk either and last year was his best year by far especially with injuries
However, he needs more touches, and they need to get rid of Joe Johnson to allow Brook to be the clear #1 option, Thad Young fits very well with him after the trade for KG, Nets played much better
Adding many new YOUNG FACES and LEGS will improve their roster

I didn't know that. Not a bad signing then. When healthy he is a very good player. Bropez and Thad are known to be good guys and could be a good core. Their problem is DWil's deal and Johnson's deal.
