Are you really dumb enough to think the media is "liberal"? It is a corporation/business like the rest and are governed by exceptionally wealthy individuals, many of whom have an interests that align with the Republican platform of deregulating markets, lowering taxes, etc. And most of the crap they put on said outlets have a slant that protect/further said interests, if for no other reason than to stay profitable. How else do you explain "liberal" MSNBC running ad after ad that promotes big oil?

Are you really dumb enough to believe that the only definition of "liberal" pertains to economic issues and not conservative ethical values? Like abortion, redefining marriage, divorce, euthanasia, etc?

Or is everything in your world black and red? Like ink?

Social issues are just a slither of the platform winning campaigns/media are run on, which orient themselves on the approximate/proportional concerns of the electorate/viewers. And as Gallup articulates, the overwhelming majority of the electorate's/viewer's focus in the political process is placed on policy concerns that don't fit the criteria you describe:

...but then again, Gallup is probably run by liberal elites bent on making fools of conservatives and destroying the fabric of America, etc., etc., so clearly they can't be trusted despite being highly reputable.

Call me pedantic, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a teleprompter for the Democratic nominees. Sure they have notes and drill question scenarios in advance. Give them credit at least for memorization. I don't think you are dumb enough to believe they are reading from teleprompters, so I'll chalk it up to hyperbole?

Sanders and O'Malley have been elected public officials for decades. Clinton is the only candidate in the race who has already had an office in the White House, albeit unelected, and was a Senator and Secretary of State. And while we certainly can debate their qualifications from a subjective perspective, objectively I'd hope you'd admit the three remaining Dem candidates have a more relevant resume than Dr. Carson or Mr. Trump. That all said, the only constitutional qualification is being 35 years old and a natural born citizen.

As for the liberal tag for the media, I think it's a mixed bag, but leans more blue than red — media execs like Jeffrey Katzenburg are in the top of donors for Clinton for instance. But I think the story is more nuanced. Look at News Corp. Liberal or conservative? Does Fox News TV & Radio makes it the exception as conservative? Or does its other properties like Modern Family and its portrayal of a gay family reveal its true liberalness?

If I'm wrong about the teleprompters, happy to be corrected with a source.

To be clear, I'm talking about the debate re: teleprompters. Meaning if you are implying that The debaters were reading answers to the auestions from Cooper et al versus answering them extemporaneously, I think you are mistaken.

The teleprompter thing is an old an internet joke that surfaced sometime after Obama was elected the first time and is generally thrown around by right leaning people as a "dog whistle" term. There was some video of him reading off a hidden teleprompter when the talk was supposed to be extemporaneous or something. It's pretty silly. Who can remember huge speeches, especially someone who gives them day after day after day. You'd spend 100% of your time memorizing lines if that was the case. But the joke is really a dog whistle that plays on the idea that of course Obama is too dumb to speak so purdy without a teleprompter. It fits in nicely with the tinfoil that his whole persona/intelligence/history is a carefully crafted facade for Democrats aka secret, evil, socialist Saul Alinsky-ites to get a Kenyan Nationalist Commie Manchurian candidate into the Oval Office.

Yea I guess I'm missing that range in my hearing. Got too pedantic about a throwaway zinger that didn't even have any zing. I Googled Obama and teleprompter and I see there is a lot out there about him as a "teleprompter president".

Don't presidents and politicians of all stripes write their speeches down? I don't get what's wrong with that. Teddy Roosevelt's 50 page speech in his coat pocket stopped a would-be assassin's bullet. Good thing having a transcript sometimes! Is it the embrace of particular technology? Reagan had an amazing "commonplace book" system of anecdotes and quotes on hundreds of 3 x 5 index cards he maintained for decades. GW Bush made some embarrassing speech gaffes throughout his administration. I can see why Obama would over-prepare to avoid that in the YouTube-era.

If the critique is that Obama is just a puppet for speechwriters, why does it seem like every other Republican commentator in the pundit class (Hyperbole Alert) was a speechwriter for Nixon, Reagan or a Bush? Pat Buchanan, Ben Stein, Chris Buckley, David Frum, Peggy Noonan, etc...

By the way, how's that prefectly crafted facade working out now, even for Democrats?

In an effort to tease a bit more substance out of you jrod, I'll bite.

I am a registered Democrat who has been sorely disappointed by Obama, although it's because I'm coming from his left. Voted for him in the first term, did not in the second term. You could say his presidency didn't work out so well for me outside some symbolism, and I'll also concede that the Democratic party is possibly in worse shape nationally after 8 years (state legislatures and non-presidential election politics versus an examination of what policies the citizenry is actually in support of as Nard goes into) — we can have that discussion if you are actually interested, although we are talking about Trump and the Republican field. I will not vote for Hillary in either a primary or the general.

Now maybe you can help me with your teleprompter comment? Are you just dissing, deflecting and shit talking or trying to make a cogent point?

Nalod @ 11/13/2015 10:12 AM
Democrats are under fire by hard line right wing local districts who keep sending unyielding un compromising hawks to congress which adds up to a big mess in Washington.

On a national scale the Republican party is in shambles. Evidence? The three top candidates (winken, blinken and Nod) are not even currently holding office. Rubio's vocation is to be a politician. After a million dollar book deal he still had to cash in an IRA (taxes and 10% penalty) to buy a boat. The little man is not a leader, he is a marketer!

Im not crazy about Obama's presidency but where did he really fail big? The ecnonomy? It tanked before he got there. Bank bail outs? It started with Bush. Besides, FDIC would have cost more and we would not have a functioning banking system if banks were left to die. Its all theory but its easy for anyone to say "It was a mistake to TARP them!" why? We don't know what would have happened other wise. Employment and wage growth are on the rise and the economy is growing slow. Oh my, what an awful thing. Did Obama solve the middle east? Has anyone? Should he stare down Putin and go to war? Diplomacy in IRAN than go to war? We still have War as an option.

The level of complexity to solve problems are over most peoples heads. Evident by watching the Repulican debate where the lack of factual evidence presented or described is lacking.

Obamacare is not killing anyone nor is it hurting. Its not perfect. If we let Clinton do it 20 years ago we could have refined by now.
Lets make America great again? Slave era economy? Civil war? Mcarthyism? Cleanse native Americans off lands? Land grabs? Monopoly building? Depression era? World Wars? Cold War spending? Vietnam? Nixon? Reaganomics? Etc etc?

What did Obama fail miserable at? Did he say he was to be a magic blackman and cure racial inequity?

I see an economy slowing doing well. The reality is there is no magic GDP number a politician can hit. This is a very long recovery cycle and not very impressive historically but its impart because our reluctance to stimulate even more than we did. This in glorious technocolor hindsight!!!! Country did not have the appetite spend more than it did.
Did he fail or has congress failed?

Did he fail when he had the majority of both houses and did not want to ramrod legislation down our throats? Maybe. Lots of maybes. Go back and read, the fallacy of greatness is something we paint in retrospect. Our general population is not equipped to handle the truth nor digest the complexity of how a country is run. It boring and slow. It don't get you elected but a real leader often has to do things that are not popular for the good of all. Even if it means losing an election.

When get a one term president who stands up and tells us he is raising your taxes for the good of EVERYONE and will fix things then you know the real deal. When you get a leader who stands up and ignores the lobby to simplify into a flat tax, then you know a real leader. When one stands up and tells you middle east can't be fixed but controlled, you will know the truth. You will never get the truth. Its not some conspiracy laden rant but the truth is all war is economically based. We keep the middle east stable not for our oil, but for our trading partners. BTW, its not "our oil". Its the private sector that owns it. The idiots that complained about $5.00 a gallon gas and how "Obama should do something about it" would cringe to know they just said "nationalize the oil complex and control prices" and suggested socialism. We are independent energy wise in the even OPEC decided to not sell to us as then did 40 years ago, but the when the commodity price spikes, the price goes up. How to combat that? Own the very stocks that produce oil. Don't have any money for that? Then your a victim of high prices. Sorry.

THank you for reading my rant!!!!

You got me all wrong, duder. I'm not defensive over Obama at all. The teleprompter thing is just a dumb joke that doesnt make much sense. If it was actually a funny joke it would be a different story. Throughout my life Ive voted for both democrats, republicans, and independent candidates of all stripes. I tend to vote on the candidate and the issues instead of mindlessly ingesting the latest propaganda being jammed down my throat from the various mouthpieces du jour. The basic fact however is that for the entirety of Obama's presidency the Republicans have acted like petulant children instead of actually attempting to legislate and compromise cause ya know thats like their job? And don't give me that BS about Obama being a commie and it was their God given duty as red blooded Americans to block everything he even attempted to do otherwise America would implode into a leftwing socialist hellhole where gay people come marauding through your neighborhood and force your kids to accept their agenda. Its common knowledge Obamacare was a Heritage Foundation idea to solve the healthcare crisis via market solutions aka tax credits etc. But now it's policy straight from the devil. Come on. Obama is a typical middle of the road Democrat and not radical at all unless you buy into lunatic conspiracy theories.

I actually tend to vote with more weight toward social issues pretty much 95% of all Republicans have gone so far beyond the pale in that regard that for the most part I cannot vote for any of them anymore no matter if they are making sense in some other areas. How the party who wants government out of your life nevertheless reconciles wanting to tell you who you can and cannot marry, what you can and cannot do with your body, etc is beyond me. And the whole takeover by the religious right is another issue with me, sorry. The "Bad atheists are persecuting us Christian" thing drives me up the wall to no end. Give me a humongous break. Religion has absolutely NO PLACE in government. But im sure youll have some witty retort that will never make much sense.

Obama's a commie? Now in all our rightwingnut meetings I've never heard that one. Mostly, he's just a socialist, who like all socialists, believes the big, bad uneducated mass of idiots who make up the general population don't really have the capacity to govern themselves. The basic fact is that the Obama administration has successfully overseen and legislated healthcare, marriage 'reform', and has had more judicial legislating from the bench than any President in recent history. Of course all of these points will just be more conservative "dog whistles".

You have problems with being told who and who not to marry, but you have no problem with a party that decides to tell you what words mean, and changes the meaning of words to suit their whim.

BRIGGS @ 11/13/2015 12:49 PM
I am now an open voter again--will not vote Trump.

To me personally the SINGLE most important issue is having the minim wage raised to 15.00. If CEO's have to make 4mm instead of 8mm so be it. Income equality is the NUMBER 1 problem in the USA and it is by a margin. A man or woman who works as a cashier or picks up garbage or whatever the job is has EVERY right to earn a decent living. 15X40=600X52=31,200. If a full time employee is not worth 31,200 than our nation is really messed up. You give people the ability to afford a place to live to buy a car to buy gifts for Christmas just the basics in life. Id like to see more CEOs just do this themselves but most of them are pigs.

Also I would try my hardest to come to reasonable 50-50 conclusions with both China and Russia. We need to sit down as friends not adversaries and just broker out our problems peacefully. If we can do that its radically changes the exponential threats of risk from a major war. We need to do this for every kid in the US and around the world.

Taxes are pretty simple to me

5% up to 50k per person
10% up top 150k
15% up to 250k
20% up to 1mm
25% the rest.

With a renewed policy on creating peaceful dialogue--I would cut spending on our military. Anything wasteful would be cut. If we provide military shelter for other countries--we need to be paid for it. I like running the country like a smart CEO would run a good business.

Immigration--pretty simple policy

$2,500 fine per person to be paid over 5 years if you are in the country illegally. You have to come out sign the papers and pay the fine. If you have been guilty of any crime in the US while you were her illegally--you are banned. If you dont come forward within 3 months to become a legalized US citizen and are found out--you will be banned for life.
10,000 fine for US citizens who have employed or house Illegals knowingly. Come forward and sign the papers. If you do not and are caught--5 years in jail and a 100k fine.

Mortgage lenders who took a bailout will pay a 1% fine to the recipient of any mortgage loan without exception. If you payed 500k for a home and owne 400k--the bank owes you 4,000 to be paid immediately and in full.

Obamacare replaced--its awful

Hacking computers to me is a serious problem. If you are caught hacking into someone else computer its a 10 year mandatory sentence. To me its a home invasion felony.

Id work very hard to make cigarettes removed from the population. Id tax them even harder Id ban them almost any public place other than a small radius on the outside of your home. Id make a 2 years mandatory sentenced if you are caught smoking in a closed room with a small child.

Id still build a really good wall like Trump wants--not so much for the immigration policy but I do think it will curb drugs pouring into the US. I would allow marijuana use for medical usage only and shut down any retail stores who sell dope. Marijuana is the biggest gateway drug there is and it should be banned. I would be EXTREMELY tough on drugs because it just wreaks life's.

Literally every single GOP candidate is against raising the minimum wage.

Oh, I wasn't trying to imply that you should know it because you're a Republican, or something like that. I was just commenting that literally every candidate on the right was asked if they thought the minimum wage should be hire and they all were against it. I was actually a bit surprised.

What about alcohol Briggs? I agree illegal immigrants need to share their earnings like everyone else. It will bring a ton of revenue. Legalize all the ones who are already here so they can pay taxes and have rights to social security. Anyone who enters legally should pay a tax until they complete the citizenship process. No fine these people aren't criminals. Show some sympathy and humanity. Commit a crime and not yet a citizen and get deported banned. Build that wall. Elect Trump. The lesser of evils. Make universal healthcare truly universal and free like other less developed countries did years ago. No reason why the United States of America can't do the same. It is not fair tlthat business owners are forced to pay for their employees healthcare in addition to all the other ridiculous taxes they pay. This will free up money to create more jobs and better pay. FUCK the Walmarts who locked trillions and treat their employees like animals and trash. Tax the heck out of the greedy corporations especially those who hide their money overseas like in Swiss banks. Another thing. You use a crisis as an opportunity to loot, steal and burn down businesses of people who actually work hard you are immediately given the death penalty once identified on surveillance camera. No wasting tax payer money with court & jail time. Refuse to cooperate with the police and you are instantly shot on the stop legally. Then review officer body cameras to prove justification. Improve police training and increase the standards of the police academy. No more fat worthless, meathead cops with psychological issues. Investigate every detail of their past and up bringing. Any shred of doubt and they are disqualified. Make driving test more difficult and annual retest for shitty drivers to keep their licenses. That's it for now

Id make minimum wage 17.50. Do you know that 60mm Americans make under 10.55 an hour? The lower class(and I fuckn that that term) needs for someone to be in their corner It will shrink crime rates give almost anyone a path to buying home and a way to earn a fair living. People who work ANY job should have the right to make 35k a year. The money needs to trickle down from the 1% to the people who really need it. No one on Earth needs 20 B $

Getting along with other countries is a no brainer--especially China and Russia. In fcat that would be goal 2 to to whatever I could to make relations friendly and consistent

Direct citizenship for illegal aliens? At least give them residency first and make them wait the customary 5 years in the country to become a citizen.

How can anyone stop Trump now hes going to win
martin @ 12/29/2015 6:20 PM
Ben Carson doesn’t want to win: His campaign is all about cashing in — and that’s the problem

http://www.salon.com/2015/12/29/ben_cars...

Pretty much sums up both Carson and Trump and probably some others on the Republican side.

As an entrepreneur, Carson has succeeded wildly. According to a new AP report, the doctor has been cashing in on the campaign trail, promoting his brand and giving paid speeches wherever he can:

“All of this is part of a well-honed enterprise that promotes Ben Carson – presidential candidate, political commentator, paid speaker, author, neurosurgeon and champion of children, reading, and God. He has folded into Carson Enterprises his presidential campaign, which has excelled at fundraising, brining in almost $32 million through the end of September …That fundraising prowess continues, even as his poll numbers decline. His campaign manager, Barry Bennett, said Thursday they raised about $20 million since the beginning of October…Speaking fees over a nearly two-year period raked in $4.3 million. And his nonprofit continues to raise money.”

It’s important not to see Carson’s private financial gains as tangential to his campaign. It’s not as though he set out to run for president and happened to profit enormously as a result. On the contrary, his campaign was itself an entrepreneurial venture. Since announcing his candidacy, Carson has paraded around the country, selling books and giving paid speeches at charity events, corporate meetings, and various other organizations.
