Better than the $8mm is the fact that it's 2 yrs, or really 1 yr with an option. The long term contracts are what really have killed us.
The Blazers were so much worse when Affalo replaced Matthews, Matthews is damn good

Ahhh...had not known that he had an option on the second year.

You like a guy and think he fits what you are trying to do you got out and get him even if you slightly overpay in this market. $12mil is not that much more for all the vitriol he endured here the past 2 days from guys like you and fish
Well let's not overreact. This is still a much weaker roster than I imagined we'd have sixteen months into Phil's contract.
What do you mean by 12 mil? Are you talking about the 3 year, 36-38 mil contract rumor? There's a huge difference between 36 to 38 mil and 16 mil.
$38mil for 4yrs is a hell of a bargain compared to these contracts. If he plays well you are going to wish he only signed for $12mil 2yrs from now. I plan on keeping him. $8mil is perfect under this cap. I would not mind it if he made $12mil in years 3-4. We already got a great bargain

Matthews spent his entire career on that team. Affalo was there for a few weeks.

4 years wasn't the report
Even in the new CBA, 12+ mil per would have been bad. That's more per year than Danny Green and almost as much as Carroll. (It was reported as 3 not 4 yrs btw.)

you are not accounting for the fact that Guns thinks afflalo is better than Matthews and green.

why are you guys so concern with overpaying players. Even if he made 12 mill, the cap is a 100 mill. Obvious having a bunch of cap space hasn't done anything for us so far.

Yeah there were a lot of mitigating circumstances that worked against Afflalo. He was moving around from the Orl the previous season to Denver to Portland inside of a year. He also had some injury issues. I'm not that concerned with his down performance. Given the situation.
This was a good signing after all the huge contract that had been handed out. He's in the same range as the other guards out there in terms of production at least. The short length of the deal is a good thing as well. The low price would make him a tradeable contract if we needed to.

why are we worried about overpaying players? really? is that a serious question?

We still have some good players out there unsigned so it's premature to say the cap space hasn't done anything. We have a lot of open roster spots we are looking to fill. Any savings we can get will be good. If we can pay less for similar production that's a good thing right?
I like it. Phil didnt get desperate and bid against himself. Got a shooter on a short term deal. Well done.
Smart contract. Not crazy about him but he may thrive in the system. He used to play D. At the very least he used to be pretty good and at 29 he can still do it if given the chance.
The backcourt is set. Now we need some up front players.
Love the signing. The Knicks can still get some good players with the leftover cap space. Yesterday was crazy. This is a very reasonable contract for a good player.

You're really asking a bunch of Knick fans "why are you concerned with overpaying players?" You know that this is why we have been so bad for 15 years right?
I like this signing. Good value. Only downside is that if he has a good year, he can opt out for a lot more money next year.
But this is a good deal. People will like Afflalo.

If he has a good year then you gladly pay him. Not too many Knick SG's have had good years the last 15yrs since H20. He is young enough to be a part of the continuity we are striving for

Yeah it's tough to compare that way. Chemistry plays a huge role in those sorts of things.

Well that's a dumb question. Why are we concerned with overpaying players?? Ummmmmmmmmmm because they would be overpaid and the less we spend on one players means the more we have for another player. There's a couple good reasons why we don't want overpaid players.

Afflalo made 53% of his open 3's last year. Afflalo’s 2 best years from 3 were his 2 years in Denver with Melo. i think this will work out well.
He had all-star consideration in Orlando too.

If this was following the season he had in orlando, he would definitely get Carroll-type money.
