can you stop banking on Stein? And no one is banking on KP, we all just love his upside potential.
The kid is now a Knick. I am happy to sit back and watch him develop. But, I guaranty that the same folks on this board who are now salivating over this kid shooting ability will be willing to kill him after next year; specifically, knowing that none of you has the patience to allow any of our previous kids to learn from their mistakes.
There is a reason why Knicks have been rejected by many FAs

It's not about "banking" on KP. We have to wait on any of the rookies from this draft. The thing is that he has a ton of talent. He is on the rise as a player. He was a plus defender for his team, which we didn't know before the draft. He's very skilled and tougher than we knew. We'll get a better idea of his ability in Summer League, Training Camp and Pre Season.

Need I remind you all that we don't have a first round pick the next couple of years. If we stink next year, we will be tanking for another team to get better theft 10 years. Because, we traded our pick for the likes of Bargnani and others.
So because of the pick situation should Phil just do whatever is possible to build a 40 win team that has no ceiling? Is that what you want him to do?
I'm sure Phil is aware that we don't have our pick next season but there is nothing we can do about past deals that were made.

I don't think that will happen. With just a few more solid moves this team should be better than it was last year. Even with Monroe this wasn't suddenly going to be a title team. We need progress and development of our prospects in this coming season.

Won't argue about Stein, but given our franchise history, the above comment is always something to think/worry about.
This was a great draft for the future, in getting Porzingis and Grant, and don't forget Hernangomez, who was slotted as a late #1 if he had been able to get out of his overseas contract. There was supposedly talk of SA showing interest in him.
We got him for a number of reasons, but he could be a decent rotation player in the future- not a star, but a solid contributor.
A real killer is not having our pick next year- something that would have made losing during the upcoming year a bit more palatable.
By the way, if you actually look at the Euro leagues, you don't have many "dominant" players... especially the kind putting up those Chinese league stats. GMs, talent evaluators, and scouts all believe Porzingis can be an excellent player over here.
I tend to put their assessments over any of ours- unless you know better, however.
It's entirely possible that the Knicks don't end up in the lottery next year. We have to see what the final roster actually is. That's why i'm not worrying about the 2016 pick issue. We know that it's possible that Phil can add a pick if he wants to.
With regard to FA, things wouldn't be substantially different had we drafted WCS, Mudiay or Winslow. It's not like they would make all the difference to FA's. We'd still be in the same situation just with a different rookie.

So to prevent another team from getting a good draft pick we should mortgage our cap space by overpaying for some one dimensional scrub? What type of bass ackwards reasoning is that?

I'm so thankful that someone with long term vision and the self confidence to ignore the peanut gallery and short-sighted, reactionary analysts and "experts" (not to mention forum posters) is finally making basketball decisions for this team.
Selecting WCS at #4 would have been a horrendous, sackless settle.
