I like the moves
That's what I like most about all of these draft/FA moves. None of them is (yet anyway) a gamechanger, but enough of them could be packaged for better pieces/picks at some point down the line.
What I like least about all of these draft/FA moves is that now there's a whole new set of players need to learn the triangle, which doesn't auger well for the beginning of next season.
What I really like is that Phil signed Lopez for a long term deal and gave everyone else short term deals. Gives the team some flexibilty if the opportunity to upgrade the roster presents itself. Nice break from the past.
Agree on all counts except Melo. If we trade Melo we get back more of the same.
what phil has done, and he should get credit for, is to not necessarily overspend for multiple years.
but every player sans melo, porzingas and lopez have basically zero value. grant is tbd at this point.

The Knicks are 't getting Durant don't even entertain that dream
Durant is not happening. Terrible fit with Melo in any case.
But I agree with the OP. We got good basketball players on tradeable deals if need be. But I'm more interested in building a team - which I think the moves are a solid start on.

Affalo's trade value will hedge on his ability to, at minimum, defend his own weight, which is an issue for him since his defense has declined each year since he left Denver. Teams at the deadline usually can't afford to take in a wing who can't at least defend his own weight.
Williams is a dead contract. He has no value to a team at the deadline. The move makes no sense at all for the Knicks and even less so for another team looking for real help. The Knicks ( well Phil Jackson) basically set 10 million dollars on fire.
Schved was one foot out of the door from the entire league. He offers no defense, no elite long range shooting and what stats he puts up requires the type of minutes that can't be justified by most NBA teams. What he can give in a limited minutes role is why he's a journeyman in the first place. Teams might like him at no cost on a cheap cheap contract as a back of the roster guy, but to pay some assets for him?
If the Knicks move Melo, his NTC will leverage out any deal to be about 15 cents on the dollar. It will be ugly. It will make the Hornacek/Perry/Lang for Barkley deal look like an outright bargain for Philly in comparison.
LOL! Durant! He would never play here. Guy got all upset bc they wrote one negative article in OKC about his lack of playoff success and he cried then his mom called the paper and they wrote a retraction. Good luck trying that with the Times or the Post.

Bingo. Hell, Affalo by himself netted a first last year.
Most importantly though, we're going to have a ton of cap space next offseason and more than most teams.
This roster was so poorly put together, Phil had to do the necessaries to at least show future FAs that the Knicks are capable of winning games. I know most of you will disagree with me, but I think Fisher's lack of coaching experience was also one of the reasons markee FAs have elected to stay away from the Knicks. He definitely has to show that he can coach next season, if not we are in trouble

I agree about Fisher. Last season it was unfair to blame him. But this season if he doesn't do a good job... I think he might on the hot seat a little. Which I don't think is fair but it's the nature of coaching in the nba.

We would need a player back too, but if the Clippers were willing, that is a decent deal. However, I think Phil signed Lopez with the intent that he was going to be our starting center for the next 4 years. He is exactly what Phil wants in a center.

Fish was in a tough situation. Teaching the Triangle to any team for the 1st time is gonna be rough. Minus an experienced and healthy Lead Guard and having to play Larkin to start the year is a huge problem for any coach. Lots of change and not a lot of quality talent that fit the system was a problem. He did do a decent job once the trade was made to get the team playing hard and executing better despite a lack of talent. His team never gave up on him. I think he got his bearings later in the season and he should be ready to go now.

Be a huge plus if Knicks could add Thibodeau to coaching staff during his time off from head coaching. He's a defensive coach first and foremost who would help immensely on that end. Understand Fischer had many fringe NBA players last year but he had some battlers and kids trying to impress and our D still sucked despite effort. Give TT that end with this personnel and we will measurably improve. As far as trade values, I agree with poster who thought trade values of some were overstated. Satisfied with Jax structuring length of deals as he did.
