don't think I have ever seen such a thing in all of sports.
gives up 12 million dollar for a chance at a ring.

Says a lot about him. Kudos to West.
Would have been interesting if Dolan told RC Buford he would give him 12MM a year to run basketball operations.
Yes, that he is crazy! $10.5MM is too much to give up. But, gives the Spurs plenty of depth now and gets Duncan some rest.
That's like a 90% salary reduction! Good for him! He is aging but for the vet min he's still a bargain.
He just paid 12 million for a chance at a ring. That is unreal.
I'm not so sure if he didn't want to get paid from a competitive team, and when that fell through, Plan B was go to San Antonio.
if he wins a ring this year (and they certainly look like the (big?) favorite) then he may become a legend.
if they don't win, he may regret this in a big way. I hope that he has been smart with his money.
I am sure the Suns, Celtics, Rockets would have paid him. He made 87MM in his career, but I don't think anyone has ever gave up that much money. Hats off to the spurs

Maybe but I definitely think he could have found a good team that would give him around $4 mil.

he does not want to be on a good team, he wants a ring.
I don't see San Antonio winning it all next year... but West will be a good fit there.
Wow. Deserves credit. High character guy. He should win a ring there. I don't think Golden State can match up with the Spurs. Really thought the only team that matched up with them was the Clips before they lost Jordan.

I am sure that that they are no where near a 1 : 1 chance of winning. too many vars.

First round series between Spurs/Mavs... who wins?

There's a fair chance Duncan or Manu or West aren't healthy. They ain't spring chickens. This sort of reminds me of when people thought the Nets would be contenders after they got KG and Pierce.
I've never been a huge LMA fan either. Anyway. We shall see.
The battle for Texas should be fascinating if nothing else with Mavs, Spurs, Rockets

i promise you he is not thinking of it that way.
Thats crazy, he could have started the season with the pacers, then do what Amare did, and latch to a team that's a definite contender. Isn't Falk his agent, what horrible advise.

yes. there is a big injury risk SA. But they have so many damn pieces.
maybe he went there because Pop is a great coach and they have the best FO in the NBA.
And he has as good a shot there as any of the top teams.
