Jose would've been a far different player if he was healthy. Fans have really not been understanding of what they were seeing with Jose. Last year was not a good example of what he had been for his entire career. Phil probably thinks he can bounce back. He can be a good vet guard to have when he's able to do what he usually does. His game was never based on great athletic ability but you can't play with bad wheels. They must have good intel on his current health.

I hope he is working hard over the summer. I know the American players do all the camps, leagues and other workouts all summer to improve their games. I never hear anything about the Euro guys in the offseason or what their offseason regiment is.
His trade value is at an all time low, but it's curious if GS would do the deal he wouldn't try to open up so more cap space for next summer. 7.7MM is a lot of room that the knicks will need and Calderon isn't getting any younger.

I agree. Have to hope that his health is good. I always worry that gms stick with guys to prove they weren't wrong. I don't think that is the case here.

Golden State would have, for the same reasons they took Wallace. They can use the stretch provision and cut him, saving a lot of money in tax.
I don't know what else we would have given up, but I would trade Calderon for Lee in a heartbeat.

I'm fine with that. In a lesser role I think Calederon will be decent. He has always been a solid player throughout his whole career. I'd give him one more chance.

Calderon said that he was working hard to come back strong, felt bad about how things shook out last season. After last season, Calderon's game has only one way to go. Not getting any younger, but that doesnt mean he cant contribute, if healthy

I think that is the case here, but we have all watch calderon play for yrs, he does seem like a solid piece in this system. He played with no confidence last season, and the losing didn't help to go along with the injuries.

I don't buy the premise that Calderon isn't going anywhere. I get the idea that he wasn't healthy but he was never an outstanding athlete and playing Pg at 33/34 is a difficult task.
He provides zero penetration (drive & kick), he rarely gets to the rim, shoots no free throws, is not an outstanding passer, does not defend and does not rebound. He can shoot but outside of leadership and intangibles he's very suspect at this age.
I take my chances with younger and more versatile PGs if I can move Jose and re-purpose his $ to improve my back-ip SG and SF positions.

True he dosen't get to the rim, but he is a reliable option as a shooter and is good passer and dristributer, we can't keep stacking our team with young ones hoping that they will stick and make an impact on the team. Look at the Orlando Magic in recent years...
I think what Phil is thinking is that Jose can be useful if the team gets into the playoffs. Having a vet who has experience can be a good thing. People are making so much of how he played last year but that wasn't the real Jose. He's much more effective when you have a good team and he can play a role. He's not John Wall or CP3 who you'd expect to carry the action. He's there to set the offense, pass the ball and make shots. He's great outlet for open shots when the D is scrambling trying to stop your better players.

He's terrible.He's the head of the defense and can't defend. He's the head of the offense and he has no ability to dribble penetrate. Some of Phil's moves may pan out but this case of trying to prove a point won't last long.

You keep saying things like the knick's have no way to grab extra picks teams won't get extra picks for Javalle McGhee and every trade you personally deem unworthy is not feasible or one sided .You are the one with the rigid thought process. The Knicks could trade Calderon without giving additional add ins. Obviously the Knicks want to keep him right now. I don't think it's the best move but it is whAt it is
