I would take his untalented brother before JR.

You leave spreewell (one of my favorite knicks of all time) out of this
. I will agree the 3 yr 24 mill he turn down was dumb, but he had some teams requesting his service, he just wanted to be on a contender, and the only team interested were middle of the road teams

And he had kids to feed.

Spree had his shit together at one time. Ran a successful business with his Sprewells spinning wheels.
After adding MO Williams and resigning Tristan Thompson, they could replace JR Smith with other players that will not have maturity issues and make boneheaded plays
They still have Brandon Haywood's contract to look to acquire talent, though they are paying heavy taxes in order to make Lebron happy
Had they not traded for Kevin Love and kept Wiggons, they would be even a better team, though Love was selected by Lebron the GM rather than the #1 overall draft pick and another future 1st rounder, though Bennet looks like he is the next Kwame Brown/AB as a complete bust but Love makes much more money than Wiggons and Bennet combined
If Lebron shows that he breaks down next season, does Cleveland still sign Lebron to a 5year deal of over 30m a season?
With the Cavs payroll above 100m, Lebron will need to sign another 1year deal with another 1 deal to opt out of in order to get 3year of service for FULL BIRD RIGHTS
2years from now will Cleveland still pay Lebron a 5year deal at over 30m a year?
Lebron is making sure all his soldiers are getting taken care off
They could use Haywoods contract to try to acquire Eric Bledsoe with future draft picks though it would be heavy taxes
Lebron could be putting himself in great danger as Cleveland doesn't have to resgin him when he opts out 2years from now
If they trade Kevin Love in a couple of months or next years draft night, along with not adding other high salaries, they may be able to offer Lebron a MAX contract or close to it, but not so sure if its 2years from now...
They may bring back JR Smith to a 1year deal this year, and then resign Lebron, if they do not take salaries for Kevin Love, and still have a FULL MLE to use NEXT YEAR

How is he holding them hostage, he's willing to take what ever money is left as long as you put solid talent around him.
Melo didn't really give a fck who you put around him or else he would have opted in and phil would of had a boat load of options this off season.
I like Melo, But the last thing I ever want to hear out of his mouth is , "WTF YOU DOING PHIL" because im sure phil was thinking the same thing last off season about him. And lets not forget about the DENVER HIJACK to get him here
You gotta wonder what type of people these guys have in their circle, agents, managers, accountants, consultants, a bunch of bad advice MFkrs

I think Joe Johnson would be obtained by trading the corpse of Brendan Haywood and his expiring contract.

Yeah, tell us more about the DENVER HIJACK. You going to lead a circle jerk over Moz for us? Oh wait, he didn't get to play in Denver. How's Denver been making out with that HIJACK? Conference Championship yet? No? Did they make the second round yet? No? Gallo on the All-NBA team yet? No? Is Wilson a first ballot HOF candidate yet?

LOl..Melo anti rant..Maybe you skip the line where i said I like Melo (as a player and a person). If you disagree that on both contracts that melo and the knicks wouldn't have been better off if he waited a yr (during the denver trade) and (when he opted out)at a better chance of surrounding him with better talented, then the both of you are not as smart as i thought you were.
If your telling me LBJ is a jerk for waitng for cleveland to stock pile there roster with legit role players to help him have a better chance at being a contender, your both are being super naive.

It is a risk, but very rare, you can count on one hand the amount of players (in their prime) that had career ending injuries in the last 20 yrs.
