Knicks · The Latvian Mamba Flashes A Few Positive Traits (page 2)

in the game they kept referring to kp as being 7'3". maybe in sneakers? anyway, if you look at his lower legs they do not look spindly, and i think that means he will be able to get "bigger" and stronger even if his build is naturally lean. he is extremely agile for a seven-footer and i hope whatever bulking up he does will not reduce that agility. given his natural athletic ability, his clear grasp of fundamentals, and dare i say his court vision(?)... his upside is huge.

good points. He also seems to be a basketball junkie. Some talented euro players dont have that same drive which is why they bust many times. Excited to see him next game

We needed a big. As far as I'm concerned Knicks got themselves the big with the 2nd most upside

Who had the most? KAT or Okafor? Or Turner?

I've been skeptical about KAT for a while. What does he do so well? He makes plays, but he hasn't shown any exceptional skills in any one area.

KP at the least has shown a shooter and scorer's touch, plus is taller, longer and more athletic. Seems like we have a good case for best upside.

Okafor is a better low post player than both kp and KAT.

Turner, at least based on summer league, has shown some great shot blocking skills, but KP in 1 game showed what his height and length can do to disrupt the offense. He also showed outstanding feel for the game.

KAT is a little worrisome in that he didn't seem very locked in. Deficiencies masked by the talent of his teammates at Kentucky?

I actually am extremely interested to see RoLo and KP on the floor together. I think that's the pairing that could really catapult the Knicks to a higher level. That length and intimidation could really help if our perimeter players are aggressive and force 3pt shooters inside. KP has really good range and movement for a player that big. As he learns more about better defensive technique KP can really help make this team a top rate defensive team.

i like his passing/vision for not only a big man but a 19 year old. His only weakness no is rebounding but hopefully that improvess when gaining more muscle

Yup his core is much further along than his upper body. Being able to work on building muscles and his conditioning at the Knicks facility should do the trick. The key is he is a willing hard worker. I think he is 7' 1/2" - 7'2" in shoes. MSG is not very credible these days as they were
NYKBocker @ 7/12/2015 12:06 PM
He is 7'1" barefoot. 7'3" with shoes. NBA height is with shoes since that is their height on gametime

He might be 7'4-7'5 when all is said and done. With those skills and mobility. Holy crap!!

So far his rebounding is a bit concerning but hopefully they'll get on him about getting in there and going after the ball. At his height he has no real excuse. I did see him blocking out his man quite a bit. He just doesn't seem to naturally track the ball like a rebounder does. He may not ever be a special rebounder but he can get better with effort and a desire to get in there and get the ball.

For those wondering about KP's height i've read that he was 7'1.25" without shoes and a legit 7'3" in shoes. No funny business going on from what i've read. He's been growing like a weed the last few years. His standing reach must be unreal, just watching him get his hand up. It looks like he doesn't have to jump to get a hand on any shot.

gunsnewing @ 7/12/2015 12:14 PM
He can't be a worst rebounder than Bargnani can he?

I hope not, almost all of the guys above 7'2 started developing knee and or foot problems causing their careers to be cut short. I would rather he stay the size that he is now.

exactly. I hope he stays at his current height. Knee problems or other leg injuries are commom for really tall guys

KP has the advantage against smaller players quite often and they need to take advantage of that with quicker passes. That said it's exciting seeing the potential this kid has.

I saw the same thing. We need to get Shved signed. It seems that the entry pass is a lost art.

I was screaming at the TV for them to just pass the damn ball to KP. He's so freakin huge and if he extends his arms just hit him in the hands with the ball. He was able to get post position in the Triangle and they were too scared to throw him the ball. Gotta hope that will improve with practice and trust that he'll make the catch. His teammates don't yet know he should be the primary option.

I agree. He gets open so easily and has a great shot he should be the primary scoring option for summer league. This is clearly what he needs to be groomed as.

It just concerns me knowing that we have MElo lurking for the regular season and that guy will freak out when he realizes the coaches and fans are way more into Kristaps that him.

Kristaps is the face of the franchise. Old man Melo ain't gonna tolerate that.

Melo is now officially David Robinson to our Tim Duncan (KriSPLASH Porzingis). If Kris can learn some of Melo's moves such as that Dirk kick jump shot move he learned from Michael Jordan, its over!

You might be right. Dikembe Mutombo seems to be the cut off point at 7'2. Didn't Rik Smuts have foot problems at 7'4?

I think weight plays a role in it too. KP being slim actually helps him I think. There's less stress on his joints and feet having less weight to carry. Hopefully he never gets too heavy. I'd prefer more functional strength than bulk. KG never got heavy.

Some people poo pooed me when I suggested that the focus of the team would shift from Melo to our draft pick. It's just the natural order of things. You have a high draft pick and that player is going to be the focus of the team and fans going forward. Yeah Melo is still to the top player but it's really all about KP and the other young players who will form the core of the franchise going forward overlapping Melo's tenure and eventually surpassing him. I think it's been so long since we drafted this high that people aren't fully recognizing that this is where you draft Franchise talent and KP has that kind of talent. We can't know just how much of his potential KP will realize but the potential is there.
TheGame @ 7/12/2015 3:28 PM
As good as Zing is going to be on offense, it is his defense that is going to turn this team around. He can move his feet and no one can shoot over him. He is going to bother a lot of shots. By the 2016-17 season, he and Lopez are going to give us one of the better defensive frontcourts in the league.

The good thing is that even tho he's young KP realizes that it's important that he not lose his agility, explosion and quickness etc. He's already talking about not wanting to get so big that he slows down. That's very important since he's the one that will be responsible for his eating and training habits being maintained. I definitely don't want to see him try to bulk up trying to become a banger. That's not what we need from him. We've got other bigs for that stuff.
