Knicks · Grant, Mudiay, Russell...Who Is The Future All-Star? (page 1)

FireWoodson @ 7/20/2015 2:46 PM
Make your predictions now, be an internet GM, show off your b-ball knowledge:

We've seen them in Summer League, we've seen their collegiate game, we've gone to China to watch them play -- which of the three youngters has the best shot of being a top point guard in NBA: Mudiay, Grant, or Russell?

Clearly Mudiay.
We may look back on the 2015 draft and laugh at how many teams passed up on Mudiay (Knicks included).

Ilovestarks @ 7/20/2015 2:51 PM
I will also say Mudiay ,as a Knick fan hoping that Grant will be a great player as well.
StarksEwing1 @ 7/20/2015 2:56 PM
If porzingis turns out as good as we hope then it doesnt matter. In fact id rather have porzingis AND grant instead of just mudiay
smackeddog @ 7/20/2015 3:05 PM
You make the silliest threads- Why compare Grant (pick 19) to Mudiay (pick 7) and Russell (pick 2)? Shouldn't the comparison be Porzingis and Mudiay (Russell wasn't even available) since you are basically just wanting to say we should have picked Mudiay? You're always so busy trying to make a point disguised as a question, the whole thing is just a waste of time. Why not just say: I think we should have drafted Mudiay and state your case- that's much more engaging than some BS thread pretending to be something it isn't.

Fortunately for you, I am an even dumber GM- I am hopeless when it comes to scouting. Muddily was better than I expected, but maybe that comparison with Chauncy Billups was quite accurate in terms of his ceiling. Russell has major red flags at the moment.

I agree, these 2 made a killer draft.
Just for the discussion we could take Mudiay #4 and Portis at#19
and still get a great PG and PF
nixluva @ 7/20/2015 3:05 PM
Mudiay is set up to be a guy that can put up some numbers and look more flashy. I actually think that Jerian is a better overall player at this point in time. Jerian can be effective even without the ball in his hands all the time. That may not lead to him being an All Star but really who cares as long as he's helping this team win.

Yeah Mudiay will be the more explosive and stronger PG but grant will be the better all around PG.

the root issue can always be framed in terms of russell vs. chamberlain

RicanHavok @ 7/20/2015 3:22 PM
Welp isn't this a moot point since Mudiay has actually expressed relief at not being drafted by the Knicks and subjected to the triangle?
Knixkik @ 7/20/2015 3:24 PM
All three have a chance to be all-stars, although Grant is most likely to be just a very good starting PG, not an all-star. If he does, it will be because he is having a great year on a great team, and gets rewarded for it, similar to how Korver and Teague made it this year. Mudiay has the most upside, will likely be a perennial all-star. Russell has less upside, but should still be an all-star. That being said, Porzingis has more upside than all of them. This should turn out to be a very good draft.
TPercy @ 7/20/2015 3:42 PM
All of them will be eventually.
CrushAlot @ 7/20/2015 3:45 PM
I think Mudiay will get there first. All three probably get at least one or two appearances.
tj23 @ 7/20/2015 3:56 PM
I think Mudiay will be the best. Russell will be the second best if he gets to play SG or off the ball more. I like Cam Payne as the 3rd best Pg just slightly over Grant but I'm a big fan of all of them. I thought they all were top 10 caliber.
foosballnick @ 7/20/2015 4:34 PM
My prediction. .....assuming good health for all....... Mudiay will take a step back from the superstar projections by some on this board when the games count and he realizes that unlike the Summer League, in the NBA it's not like street ball and they actually play defense. If he wants to become an Allstar he will need to develop an outside shot to keep defenders honest. Russel will find his game and will become a lesser version of Curry. Grant will become a more athletic version of Mark Jackson and make an all star game or two at some point later in his career.

cant believe how many knick fans think Grant will be an All Star

It doesn't seem to me that a lot of people are saying Jerian will be an All Star. It's not even important in the overall scheme of things. If we win and Jerian is a big part of that he'll get his recognition. I think we made out just fine with Jerian. He's got the needed BB IQ and talent for what we need.

Yes. Good pick.

Now lets set normal expectations and hope that he can give us just a positive contribution this year. Not the stupid "hey ... mudiay is so much better than grant".

Lets remember that we got him for a stiff and what ever little he does will be a net positive.

exactly, we should be rational. So that's why we should lower are expectations. He is a rookie so he will probably only avg 15-18 pts, 6-9 ast, 4-6 rebs, 1.5-2. stls, 85% ft%, and a 57-59 Ts%.

Jerian is vastly superior to THJ IMO. It was a GREAT draft night move. Jerian went 19 but that actually obscures what his actual value is to this team. Phil picked Jerian for the right reasons. He got a player who is proven to be a great floor leader and has multiple skills. He can impact the game in so many ways and this point more ways than either Mudiay or Russell. Jerian has the right game and intellect for this system as well.

+1

Getting Grant in the same draft as a potential game changer like Porzingis is gravy. At worst Jerian looks like he will be a reliable but not flashy PG, like Charlie Ward was for years. His upside looks like that of a top ten PG
