19mm we have to spend next year--thats not a lot of money considering how thinsga re going. It cost 13.5 mm to get Robin Lopez here a guy who wouldnt start on 15 teams.

good deal for both sides. gallo has to stay healthy becuase when he's on the court, he's proven to be very productive. pretty sure he scored 50 last year in one of the last games of the season.

Why are you knocking RoLo? He's a solid Defensive Center for this team and really his money isn't a problem given his position. I'm sure that if Phil wants to add a big name FA next year he'll find a way to clear cap in order to do that. In the meantime barring the unlikely chance that we could get a top FA to come next year we still have a solid big man in the middle for this team. RoLo is the Bird in the Hand rather than worrying about the hoped for FA later on. Who says we'll even be targeting a Max FA next year?

Maybe 5pts 4 reb per game last playoffs?

RoLo is a role player and not a superstar. He's not paid like a superstar either. I think Portland had a lot more problems than RoLo in the playoffs. Besides a bad playoff performance can happen to anyone and it does happen. You keep focusing on last playoffs but the year before he was in the postseason as well.

Robin also had a broken hand last year.

Robin Lopez expected to return from hand injury Tuesday night
Kurt Helin Feb 3, 2015, 4:15 PM EDT

The Portland Trail Blazers defense just got better.

Robin Lopez, who has been out since Dec. 15 with a broken hand, is likely to return to the Portland lineup on Tuesday night. As Jabari Young of CSNNW.com noted this was expected, Lopez was listed as “probable” on Monday, but Tuesday the news was confirmed by David Locke, the voice of the Jazz.

The Blazers were a respectable 13-10 without Lopez in the lineup, but their defense is 7.7 points per 100 possessions better when he is on the court. Lopez is long and active, plus he anticipates well. He’s their anchor in the paint, plus it lets them move the solid but not spectacular (save for his beard) Chris Kaman to a reserve role. Lopez averaged 9.6 points (on 50.5 percent shooting) plus 7.2 rebounds a game.

Briggs is not a fan of the Harry Potter books like Robin is, and is considered to be a Muggle by those in the know.

I think Briggs is trying to be a Dementor to fans of Robin Lopez.

I think we bought 30mm worth of complimentary role players. Thats not a belittlement--and it might workout very well. But lets take into consideration were getting a back up C from a 20 win team. A F we overpaid for that we will have to find a position for and a solid role playing type C. Our draft picks have MUCH more talent than what we spent 30mm on. My opinion. And again its the cards we were dealt and we will be better.

actually on basketballreference.com gallinari's real plus/minus on defense are better than melo's, his offense real plus/minus is a little bit less than melo's, and his cumulative real plus/minus is better than melo's. moreover melo has always been the featured player on his team while gallinari has not been close to a featured player. gallinari even with this ridiculous new contract remains the better value dollar for dollar....

so far as the eye test and defense: you are mr. magoo

I think a "healthy" Gallinari is significantly better than Lopez--I think most of the NBA would agree. Lopez is a quality complimentary player (NBA C) while Gallo has the ability to take over NBA games by himself. I think Gallo is a very decent defender--not as good as Lopez but overall a good defensive player. If you add in offense that separates the two by a good margin.

since the trade Gallo was going to blossom, lead the Nuggs to many great things and show indeed that Melo is terrible human, lousy ball player and Gallo is the golden child. Gallo had a nice sophmore season tantalizing the fan base with his potential. He is literally the exact same player he was 5 years ago. He shoots 3s, is an average defender, has zero playmaking abilities and has not expanded his game much at all. He's a 15/5 player, and thats because when he shoots well he gives you 20, and the next night he doesnt shoot well he gives you 10. At this point he's a less athletic Tim Thomas. He's an OK player. His ability to shoot is the same as having a 95 mph fast ball, so while he's hitting those shots he will get paid, but there is nothing great about Gallo anymore.

I laugh when hear guys like Briggs talk about "his ability to take over games."

When has this happened? What games? Like 2? Has he ever won player of the week? Or month? I mean if he was capable of getting hot and carrying a team more than twice a season it would show.

He's a 6'10 jump shooter that occasionally has scoring outbursts. He is not a defensive player. He got a very nice money deal based on hope and potential and was on the trade table a couple months ago.

My favorite part about DK and the obscure stats crowd who love Gallo, is when all else fails in the Melo trashing they can always fall back on Melo's playoff failures. Except Gallo's playoff experiences have been utterly abysmal.

Gallo is just another dopey contract. Who cares...

i prefer the bunny hole if it means forcing you to waste precious time responding to me. i said the contract was ridiculous. the nuggets are paying for gallinari's potential, which has never been wholly relaized because he has been chronically injured.

to review:

gallinari has a ridiculous contract
gallinari is being paid for what the nuggets in him if he can only stay healthy so it is a big gamble for them

meantime acquiring melo the way dolan forced walsh to do in february 2011 has done nothing for the knicks. that's 5 years of futility and counting....

this season will be great for me because either melo is a good employee and buys in and changes his game to suit the system or he pulls a marbury and pouts, sulks, is disgruntled and asks to be traded-- revealing his character once again as nothing to be lauded. for me it's a win-win.

for you? lose-lose
