Doesn't change the narrative. Melo took the money instead of seeking a winner. SO he skimmed $5mill of $129m to end up $124...he's still getting a pay increase, not a pay cut from his last contract.
Greedy like Kobe...but at least Kobe has 5 rings to show for his asshattery.
We get that you don't like Melo but LeBron is not an example of taking less. He never has and never will. In addition he continues to give himself one yr opt-outs which is smart for him but holds the Cavs hostage. I doubt he will but he can up and leave them with all those crazy deals they signed everybody else too. In addition, he has made it clear he will take the max every yr.
Lebron went from $17m in Cleveland to $14.5m in Miami:
I don't think it was a huge factor. The 3 of them wanted to play together, but he basically got a max deal in Miami and made more money than he would have with the Cavs. Can you really applaud somebody for taking less money when he actually took more? Also, since he opted out the gain is more than the article notes.
If you can't get stars to play with melo, then grow your own. We are. No guarantee so no starphuching.
Clyde is right and Im sure Melo is disappointed Phil didn't starphuch as did Isiah, as we did with old ass Ewing cuz its not the right thing for the franchise. If Melo could recruit and get a top star to play maybe we trade KP for a package to round out the roster and have at it. But that's not what happened. Its not melo's fault, or phil's its the current dynamic.
Best thing FOR NOW is Melo get healthy, and play well. Make his cuts without the ball and move his arse. Be a good teammate and showcase his talent. Like A-rod, just play ball and good things will happen. If Melo can lead this team to a playoff berth, fantastic. If he is an allstar and Phil deems the best for the franchise is to trade him, and of course Melo is game, then trade him.
Until then, have a nice summer. Good for Clyde and captain obvious!

I know that Walt is an intelligent man with many interests...I thought this was about speculating on the eventual destruction of mankind billions of years from now:
All stars die, some more violently than others.
Once our own Sun has consumed all the hydrogen fuel in its core, it too will reach the end of its life. Astronomers estimate this to be a short 7 billion years from now. For a few million years, it will expand into a red giant, puffing away its outer layers. Then it’ll collapse down into a white dwarf and slowly cool down to the background temperature of the Universe.
Exactly Walt! You read the other Walt perfectly.
All stars do die...hopefully our star leaves for greener pastures elsewhere before he corrupts our future supernovas.
Funny...I really wasn't being that devious, but I can see the analogy.
Original intent was to just lighten up the thread.

Caramelo made 22.5 last yr and will make 22.9 this yr. If he made 18 mil per. Last season it wouldn't have mattered since we were over the cap. This offseason we would have saved 4.9mil. Who are the free agents we have lost out on last yr and this free agency due to Carmelo's contract?

Classic mo money mo problems situation (: Our problem was not cap, it was lack of competition...

It is, if you're lazy brand focused paycheck player like Melo:
If you actually give a dam about getting a player, you'd do your part like CP3, Blake, Doc, JJ Redick, and even newcomer Paul Pierce did in recruiting Deandre Jordan.
Of course Me7o was too busy doing this:
Love the 1:08 part of that Youtube video. Classic #StayMe7o moment.

Im not blaming and pointing fingers. For all I know Melo made the calls but did not publicize it. Im just stating was put out there.
Another gem by Nalod. Melo with his "black book"...always talking about it, but never being about it...

What stars were available for recruiting this offseason? LMA who makes no sense from a roster construction standpoint for NY bc he refused to play center at times?
Holfresh has a fair point. Your response was pretty random. Just blame Melo and throw in some hashtags for no reason.

Guessing you didn't read Nalod's link about Melo's "black book" then.
Probably lost it on his Bahamas trip.

Yeah and at the time the roster sucked, the media sucks, and you have to pay state and city income tax. Not much to pitch to Aldridge.

He posted after your comment, but good point about the Bahamas trip. Those banana boats can be tricky. Best to not bring personal items.

You left out historically our team has shownno ability to build a roster. Only good for stealing money if u plan on missing over 75% ofthe season (suppose we coulda pitched that).

...Or could it be people don't want to play with Me7o in NY?
Probably the case if he's the Alpha. Melo would've excelled as a sidekick in Houston or Chi-Town though, but who can turn down $124m reasons.

Interesting dynamics and hypothetical situations to think about:
1) If Anthony had exercised his option-played out the last year of his previous contract, and not gotten injured this year, how much more money could he have commanded from a team during this year's FA feeding frenzy?
2) Using the same scenario, except he does get hurt... How would his FA value have gone down in the market we just saw if he had been injured?
3) What about this? Melo opts in to his final year...and gets hurt- Does he continue playing until the All-Star game knowing that he is going to be on the FA market...or does he shut it down as soon as he knows he needs surgery and get the operation- maybe coming back at the end of the year to show his fitness- so teams know he is healthy before bidding on him?
4)Can we assume that Anthony had to take a physical before his most recent contract...does this HAVE to be done ALL the time?
Just wondering.

Well a 17 win season and a roster with one NBA starter, a coach that seems lost and out of his depths, a GM with a massive ego with a penchant to incoherent internet ramblings, tossing players under the bus, isn't a good selling point is it...

I would say he definitely plays in the all star game as it was reported and Steve Mills talked about how playing in the game would not make the injury worse. I think he still commands max money in free agency, see Wes Matthews, but he might not stay. The roster had more undrafted guys at the end of the year then first round picks. I think they had more second rounders then first rounders as well.

So Melo is totally innocent of the 17 win season that was lost? Just wash your hands of the on the court abortion of a franchise worst season.
Didn't he suit up for 40 of those games?

If he played out his contract and DJordan's contract rolled of Clippers book...I'm sure the Clippers would be happy to sign Melo in place of Jordan if the salary slot was available..
