Knicks · What is going to happen to Thanasis? (page 1)

Knicks have 13 guaranteed deals and Galloway. There is one open spot on the roster. Do the Knicks give that to Thanasis? Not sure that he is ready.

nope, its overseas or back to the D-league for him, the ivy league kid will be the 15th guy-Wesley Saunders

If they don't think he can make the roster I think he will go overseas or Phil will try to trade him to a team that thinks they can use him and maybe get a 2nd round pick for him, if possible.

Not going to play in the DL without being signed, IMO.

My hope is we can get a future second for him because otherwise he'll go overseas for the next 3 years

I think this would be the best option. Hopefully Milwaukee wants him.

Love his energy, but really was hoping he'd have improved his jumper a lot more. Teams will play off him to make him prove he can shoot. I think Phil is looking for a guard who can do more and has a higher BB IQ at this point. I could be wrong but it would seem that Thanasis is in a tough spot.
Nalod @ 8/4/2015 1:52 PM
Is Travis Wear on the roster?
NYKBocker @ 8/4/2015 1:52 PM
One thing I like about Dolan right now is that he is letting Uncle Phil spend his money to get talent in the 2nd round. Thanasis and Labeyrie rights were both bought last year. I hope he is allowed to do this every year.

No.

Thanasis is a poormans Rodman. The big diff is bball IQ and height. He is out of luck with height and I don't think he can increase his bball IQ.

Spending has never been an issue for Dolan.

Yup...

I do feel bad for him because he seems like a good kid and he probably could have made more $$ overseas, but you did not see any dramatic and consistent changes from him in SL, despite hitting a few jumpers, if I remember correctly.

He did not fit the player profile I thought Phil was looking for...I think between Thanasis and the French kid we drafted Phil expected one of them to emerge as an disruptive, defensive, energy type player who could hit an open midrange shot or cut to the basket, perhaps playing a Rodman-like role on the team. I think that is what Gaines also saw in Ndour, who looked better than both of these guys, IMO.

Hopefully someone wants him and we can get something for him and put him into a situation where he has a better opportunity, but it looks like his future as a Knick is very doubtful.

After watching SL, i'm not sure if i saw anything from him that indicates he's an NBA player.

Who cares he's not that good
Cartman718 @ 8/4/2015 3:55 PM
I think he should get signed.

He won't make the team this year. Knicks can still hold onto his rights and he can still play outside of the US. The rights would be useful to hold onto for trade purposes.

At Pick 51, that's a giant crapshoot and he got a lot of attention simply for pedigree ( his brother basically shocked the entire league)

One side benefit to getting him off the Knicks though is hopefully then RonRon will finally cease to try to convince anyone that the Bucks will trade Giannis Antekoumpnmmo to the Knicks for a bag of spare parts.

Might have been more useful in hindsight to spend that pick on James Michael McAdoo or Tyler Johnson.

JacobKubacki @ 8/4/2015 6:18 PM
He could be good yet I think he is too raw. If we can wait for Hernangomez who is now a better player we can wait for Thanasis. I would give him a chance but year or two in Europe would do him good.

I probably would of said he'll get the last spot even after the Seraphin signing but after seeing they're also interested in N.Cole i'm not so sure he's gonna make the 15. Now i don't think we're gonna get Cole cause the Pelicans are said to match any low offer he gets but just them being interested in him says they're still looking for a certain something which will most likely be a PG/SG.

Dolan's wallet has always and will always be open for our GM to spend whatever they want.

Thumpo has ridiculous athletic abilities that Rodman couldn't even dream of having.

Phil's been looking for a Rodman-like player to add to the mix, and I think he hoped Thanasis would bring something like this to the Knicks. Unfortunately, he is no Rodman, whatever athletic abilities he might have.
