I feel optimistic about the Knicks. I like very much the players Phill was able to sign; they are all smart players capable of playing at BOTH ends of the court. They are not flashy/selfish guys with big character issues; therefore in time, will help turn around our fortune.

I still believe we need a big slashing two-guard, but the intelligence of the guys we've acquired will make up for the lack of what we are missing.

Phil knows how to build a team of roll players.....he has experience with that. I never seen him play but i would assume he was a two way roll player.

If I can make a baseball analogy, this team is reminiscent of the first 70's Yankee team to reboot the franchise so to speak. In those days they were putting together a team of loose pieces who, after they jelled, are legendary. This is a nice start. As this team begins to put wins on the board there will be those who have snickered today who will be saying, "See. I told you so!"

Melo gets it. They need to start strong and take every game seriously. If they do, we'll be watching some good basketball for a change.

nixluva @ 8/11/2015 12:43 PM
I like the toughness Phil has added. The guys he has brought in have a certain mental toughness that we've lacked. Not to mention some physicality as well.
I like the character of the guys as well. A lot of these guys are team oriented and hard working players by nature. There is more passing than we had and a very nice overall balance to the roster.

The thing I like the most is the young talent we have now. KP, Jerian, Gallo, Early, Thanasis, DWill, Seraphin, O'Quinn are all 25 and under. Plus Lance and RoLo are only 27. That's some good youth to roll with for years to come and with more youth coming over the next few years. The team has a real future.

CrushAlot @ 8/11/2015 12:52 PM
Really excited. I like all of the additions at this point. Not sure what the Knicks should do with the last spot or if they should try to make a trade to open up another spot.
mreinman @ 8/11/2015 12:54 PM
I liked the draft a lot as well as the Rolo and O'quin signings. I can do without the other moves.

I think Seraphin will be great. I think Affalo was a very good signing. I don't think Sasha sees much floor time. The George Karl version of DWill would be great.

I think that Seraphin may take lots of bad shots.

I think that DWil will suck because he just sucks.

I think that Rolo will be really solid as well as O'quinn.

I think that Afflalo is a big key and can go either way.

Knicks1969 @ 8/11/2015 1:55 PM
I believe one of the biggest ingredients added was Afflalo. That dude is leader, as well as, a very capable two-way player. I know a lot of folks around here may trash his athletic ability, but what he lacks in athleticism, he makes up for it with his intelligence. Those are the type of players you surround an unspoken leader like Carmelo with. Afflalo will play the Billups/Kidd role for Carmelo.

I pretty much agree with this. We need a second scorer and Afflalo seems to be penciled in as that guy. If he flops, we could be in trouble. I'm hoping Grant is as good as I think he will be too because even in a non PG oriented offense you still need to breakdown the D. I think this year really hinges on our backcourt play.

I feel that Grant is a better player than Felton was. If he can give us solid 2 way production I think this team is gonna be WAY better than many think it is.

I think DWill has a chance to be much better than some expect him to be. This is a much better role than he's had in Sacramento, where he spent a lot of time just camped out behind the 3pt line. In this offense DWill will have plenty of chances to attack the basket in the flow of the offense as opposed to random or forced looks.

I don't know why we'd even be worried about Seraphin taking "lots of bad shots" in his backup role. He shouldn't be in a position to have an outsized impact on the team off the bench. If he was a starter then I could see being concerned.

Jerian and KP are the guys that I really hope we can get something good out of. I know they're rookies but if they can have solid rookie seasons it would really help out. I'm excited to see these guys out there.

Carmelo appears to be healthy physically and mentally. If he can somehow find a way to curtail his shot attempts and help establish Williams and others, we might end up having a special season; specially, given our conference. For the first time in a long time I can honestly say that our roster is balanced. We have a mix of young and middle age players with Carmelo as the only elder. Our front court is more then capable, and the back court is very solid with the addition of Grant and Afflalo. If we can find a way to turn Jose into a first round pick for the next draft, and help young Thanasis to improve his shooting, we will have a good squad for the next three years.
newyorker4ever @ 8/12/2015 10:48 AM
Well myself and a few others have been giving credit to what Phil has done so far from the beginning. He's brought in solid two way players who have great attitudes and will help change the culture with our team. Is this the finished product that we'll be competing for deep playoff runs and championships with?? No it isn't, but it's a solid start and this team should give us games that us fans can actually watch with a smile on our faces. We've all always said we need to rebuild and finally get some young talent in here instead of trading all our draft picks and young guys for big name veterans with big contracts, but every GM we would get wouldn't go through the bashing you get from the New York media and New York fans to start the rebuild process. So Phil is doing it and he's taking a **** of a lot of bashing from every direction but is standing strong with his vision so he deserves big props for that.
The New York Knicks are heading in a good direction and even though it's gonna take another year or maybe two to get to where we wanna be we're getting there and i for one am ecstatic and hopping on for the ride.

+1
In the running for Post of the offseason!

Just make sure you don't hop off the wagon at the first bump.

We may not be a playoff team on paper....But we are no longer the laughing stock of the NBA.

And if teams are not careful, we may sneak some unexpected wins over playoff teams, which will only give our team even more confidence.

I represent the knicks all the time, wearing knick gear. In the past, people would say, arent you embarrased to be a knick fan.....

Now they will say, wow the knicks are better this year, thanks to Phil Jackson.

I'm just glad we are no longer a complete laughing stock of the NBA.
