The issue I have with all the signings is that it appears Phil just handed out contracts. Unproven guys with player guarantees and vesting futures into guys who are barely role players. Even Afflalo got a raise and a player option coming off arguably his worst season. Perhaps it all pans out. if so, then they become good signings.

Phil has drafted well imo. I do think he's below Isiah in the talent acquisition/trade dept though. But as I stated, if it pans out, then it all becomes good signings.

Thomas drafted Damon Stoudamire seventh overall in 1995 and Tracy McGrady at ninth during his tenure with the Raptors. David Lee, Trevor Ariza, Wilson Chandler and Nate Robinson were all high value picks with the Knicks.
Phil is just getting started but I think he's done very well considering what he's had to work with. It will obviously take time to really judge Phil drafts so this isn't something we can really gauge at this early stage.

Well many of his trades have been more about getting rid of guys than actually bringing in superior talent. Now that the purging is mostly over there should be more of a shift towards moves that bring in better talent. Phil will be dealing more from a position of strength as we move along as opposed to desperation to get rid of guys.
This is an ongoing process of building this team up. The young guys we have now need to be developed and schooled in this culture and system of team ball. Phil's difference is that he's focusing on adding Team Oriented players for a Team Oriented style of play. If you're gonna run a Ball and Player Motion system then you need guys who have a high BB IQ and are disposed to being unselfish. The more guys you can get like that the better. You don't want to zero players who have a scoring mentality cuz that can be a problem as well. You want a good balance, which I think Phil is achieving.

I like the fact that Phil is actually drafting with a plan in mind. It's more about team building than just collecting talent as seems to be the case with Hinkie. When you don't have a lot of picks to waste you have to be more targeted and shrewd. Phil has been handicapped by the lack of picks to some degree. After this coming draft we'll have picks in the future.
Well many of his trades have been more about getting rid of guys than actually bringing in superior talent. Now that the purging is mostly over there should be more of a shift towards moves that bring in better talent. I've never said anything about Phil being perfect and have stated not everything has worked as planned. Why do you insist on trying to get me to state something I don't believe? I said what I believe and if I felt that he was making bad trades I would say that. He hasn't been making most of his trades with the idea that he was going to get back a player who was better than what he traded away in terms of talent. Tyson, JR, Iman were all deals to basically get rid of players as opposed to bringing in a player that was expected to be a more talented or even equally talented player. It was understood we were sending away the better talent. The Prigs trade was about getting a younger player and assets. The THJ trade was with the idea that we could get someone better in the draft and IMO we did with Jerian.
