I think 31.5 is spot on- and depending on how things break, we could over achieve or under achieve.
I have a hard time thinking of putting money either way on this number- at least until I see some actual game action and see how the team fits as a unit.
But gun to my head, I'd say to bet higher, simply because there are so many high character guys.
i would take the over on that. 30-31 is my low with a high of 35, injuries pending.

Its 15 wins improvement... tall goal.
Spurs are still in the mix to win it all.
This organization continues to amaze..
i have them winning 34 games.
If Melo is healthy they win at least 35.
and for everyone with the knicks winning 34/35 games, that isn't a whole lot of margin over 31.5.
34. That's doubling out wins and if 50-55 wins is in the cards within 3 years, it's a strong step in the right direction.
can't believe that nixluva overslept today.

I think they win 42. 35 is the minimum and I would see it as a disappointment. When healthy and playing an entire season, Melo has never won less than 37 games. The talent on the team has been upgraded and this group of guys appear to have good chemistry. Can't wait to see them on the court together.

So if they win 30 games, it will be easy to blame it on Melo being not truly healthy.

He seems to be healthy. If he has another major injury where he needs surgery then I know my expectations for the win total drop dramatically. Personally I am hoping that doesn't happen. How about you?

You really are something with the negative snide remarks! This is a better team than Vegas realizes. Not because of the individual talent but the improved mental disposition of the team. Better balance, skill, effort, defense and BB IQ. They aren't really taking that into account.
A healthy Melo with a solid supporting cast has mostly led to an above .500 season with only the last 2 years missing that mark. So IMO there's nothing about this team that would indicate this team won't reach those levels Melo's teams have always reached outside of total dysfunction and injuries as we had the last 2 years.

you are putting too much of a burden on melo when you refer to him vis a vis his "supporting cast." that said, in his best seasons melo is good for 8-10 win shares. hence if he is healthy and buys in the knicks could very well win 39 games. anything more than that is actually on the shoulders of the two rookies.

I really like the Knicks over 31.5 --that is a very good bet. I think throwing 500 hundred on the 200-1 odds might be a fun upside bet.

Why the rookies? We have vets who are ready to carry their share of the load. That's why this team is capable and of exceeding expectations IMO.

potential growth is steeper than veterans. if you calculate win shares of the vets the total number of wins is around 27-29, or 10-12 more wins than the players they have replaced. good melo adds 8-10 more wins, bad melo adds around 4 wins.
the best upside with the rookies not having an impact is 35-39 wins. anything above 39 wins would be due to the rookies being not only contributors but difference makers.
Title odds are 200-1? So you're saying there's a chance!
