Knicks · Matt Barnes attacks Knicks coach Fisher for dating ex-wife.. (page 8)

Nalod @ 10/8/2015 4:18 PM
Nice story, use the kid as a reason is not cool. There was a gathering of friends over, so its not like Mommy is banging in the next room and the kid is docile by the trama.

Basically, Barnes should have kept it private. He is known as a hot head and very public display.

Lets be real, we not talking about fully formed mature adults. These are wealthy people whose business is branded by their public exposure.
At the moment Fish is taking the high road. If the guy has any brains he'll move on from this and not have his kids reading this crap in the papers. Seems like he has done a pretty good job until now.
Barnes has a history of idiocy.

SupremeCommander @ 10/8/2015 4:46 PM
I thought the NYT summed this BS up quite nicely:

Based on what appeared to have happened — and Barnes’s longtime reputation as a hothead with a long list of behavioral transgressions, including accusations of domestic abuse — Fisher was first and foremost a victim, deserving of the “full support” offered by the Knicks and the right to deal privately with a personal situation.

But there is a bigger picture, even if it is one of perception. The head coach of an N.B.A. team is largely responsible for establishing and enforcing standards for player accountability, and now there are questions about what Fisher may have been up to when he left the team over the weekend to see his children, who live in Los Angeles, only to have the incident with Barnes occur at Govan’s home.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/09/sports/basketball/derek-fisher-kristaps-porzingis-knicks-dysfunction.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&_r=0

The bolded sums up why I think Phil needs to say something, otherwise it just appears that the organization doesn't care that he was out womanizing, which led to a missed practice.

This whole thing pisses me off because no one is talking about KP or Grant or

Fish immediately addressed the players and they all seem OK with that. You want more though, right? A public announcement that will make YOU feel better.

Again, Fish, the victim, needs to address you.

the only thing that legitimately matters is that fischer is a shown to be a phoney mo-fo with terrible judgement.

going and dating another active players ex is so stupid. and one that's on baskebtball wives at that.

blkexec @ 10/8/2015 5:16 PM
This is perfect timing for Fish. I think this is where Fisher excels. I might question him as a coach, but as a leader, he's top notch. I have lots of faith that he will handle this with care and show his fellow teammates how to handle external distractions.

It's easy to say that now cuz of what Barnes did. Fish was obviously being very discrete about what he was doing in his personal life. We would never even know about his relationship otherwise. He was at a gathering which is far from a situation where he was alone and caught in bed with her. They were in the yard chilling from all accounts. People are free to do what they want in their personal lives as long as it's not illegal. I don't like the PURITY police telling Fish what he can and can't do in his off time. This is about Barnes going off like a crazy Ex.

This is not about Barnes for us. Its about our coach that brought on a distraction.

Did anyone care about Mark Jackson's affair in GS? Of course they did ... call them purity police or whatever but this story better not get uglier.

You think that Pop is screwing around with his players reality star wives? If he was then it would be a story, especially coming off a 17 win season.

If you want people to look away then you'd better be winning games. If you are not then they will scrutinize the length of your beard.

Fish is free to date as is Gloria. Barnes certainly wasn't above chirping about dating Rihanna on TMZ Cameras!!! This isn't about Fish dating a former teammates estranged wife. This is about Barnes overreacting and getting violent. If Barnes handles things differently we never hear about this. What Barnes should've done was contact his wife and ask her to explain what was going on and that he was talking to their sons. I'm sure she would've calmly explained she had friends over.
There was no emergency that required Barnes to come over unannounced. Not based on his own explanation of why he went over there without talking to his wife. Dude CLEARLY was looking to sneak up on Fish and Gloria. This wasn't just about his kids.

Why do you (and some others) care so much about who is sticking his dick in who? Is there really that little going on in people's lives that there is a "Real Housewives of the Knicks" fixation on everything that happens and everything that is said even outside of the Arena confines? The media cares about this because there are already way too many of them in NYC trying to drum up whatever attention by blowing up any story as much as they can get. The divorce rate in this country is over 50%. There are dating sites such as Ashley Madison devoted to sleeping around. Not sure why we hold a Basketball Player, Coach or otherwise to a higher social standard than we hold the rest of society.

Mark Jackson was a story because he professed to be a devout Christian and above all that....he was caught and the hypocrisy became a story. The only reason this is a story is because of Barnes' reaction and alleged physically abusive behavior towards Fisher and his estranged wife. That is why this is about Barnes. Without his reaction, there would be no story.

How about messing around with JR smiths ex? Would that be a dumb distraction?

How about if Fisher decided to date a porn star? Do you care? Maybe not but its a damn story.

And, this is NY and the NY media is what it is. You don't like it? That does not really matter.

Guess whats been on Yahoo front page all day?

The problem was Barnes behavior and not what Fish and Gloria were doing as two consenting adults. It's not Barnes job to regulate who Gloria dates. If he was concerned about his kids he could still have called her to voice his displeasure. There was no reason to get into it with Fish unless he knew Fish had done something to his kids, which he wasn't claiming. If Barnes doesn't lose it and attack Fish, none of this is an issue and we never likely even know about his private life. Despite Moralist's opinions, Fish didn't do anything wrong.

How do you know what Pop would do when he was younger and had a shot at a hot chick like this? You think it would be Pop's fault if his woman EX got heated and came after him. You think that can't happen regardless of the former teammates dynamic? Estranged Husbands and Wives go nuts all the time even when they don't know the person their Ex is messing with. So it's not about the relationship between Fish and Barnes. Barnes could be nuts and act the same way even if it wasn't Fish but some other dude. Given his explanation that it was about his kids contacting him. It could've been any guy she dated. This is really about Barnes not being able to get over his Ex Wife and being jealous.

Since we're Knicks fans, this is a Knicks forum, and alot of us have lived or are living in NY....this is 100000000000000000000000% about the man that's coach of the Knicks.

We don't care about Barnes fake tough guy tantrum routines.....we care that Knicks coach Derek Fisher was part of it.

It always takes 2 to tango, in this case 3, but for Knicks concern, it's about Fisher bringing an unnecessary circus to town...

Reminds me of the time Kris Humphries dated Kim Kardashian....he was never able to live that down!

Dated? He married that Skank!

Where is the circus around the team? You think there not a lot of distractions with every team with multimilliare ball players? Dirk was engaged to a felon, DRose being accused of rape, Harden wears the wrong sneakers, Durant a free agent and lord knows what else that don't hit the media but real life stuff!

Jason Kidd had lots of drama in his career and did just fine. Spree was the king of chaos!!! "Great team mate" but sometimes he'd leave Cali and make a few stops on his way to camp in NY. Maybe he make it, maybe he don't.

But coach has a drama ex husband confrontation and some think the knicks are all up in arms about it. Basically, the players really don't freaking care about it. Do you car if one of your co-workers or boss has a girlfriend problem?

I would care more if one of Fish's kids got real sick again, then he'd be distracted. Go Go Gloria is a nice piece, but we talking about a media event, cuz if it was not barnes, it would not be on TV.

Sure seems like alot of distraction based on the UltimateKnicks home page!

Hopefully they can get this out of their systems before the season starts like the New York Jets did. Jets had teammates punching out other teammates, teammates getting suspended for weed, teammates doing 143MPH in a Bentley with a 12 year old with weed and automatic weapons while resisting arrest from the cops...

If the Jets can power through drama that bad, maybe the Knicks can too!

They were clearly both wrong.

Barnes for losing his mind and assaulting the gold digging hoe and Fisher when she is no longer his property legally.

Fisher for being stupid and irresponsible and lying to the team about needing to take the day to fly to LA to see his kids.
Now let's say that was his original intention and one thing led to another and he wound up at her house for a gathering. As the head coach of the New York Knicks, who are in a critical phase of trying to build a professional winning culture from scratch. Meaning that we have a lot of young guys who need to be steered in the right direction and shown how to be a pro on and off the court especially playing and living in NY. The coach is the last guy you want to see involved in this kind of scandal. Especially when he is trying to do everything to prove himself as a worthy head coach after a dismal 17win season.

Like it or not the players can say they are cool with it after he spoke to them but make no mistake. They question his commitment to the team now. Like others have said if this was a player who flew cross country to hang out with his ex teammates ex-wife in the middle of training camp when he had all summer to take care of his personal business, that player would get roasted and his teammates and coaches would question his commitment to the team. Then he would be made an example of and disciples by the team. It would be made clear to the team that you are either all in or you are out. Hopefully that player will learn from his mistake and become a better teammate. However, this isn't so simple because this is your head coach. You can't discipline your head coach and leader! Your coach needs to be invested in the team and be all in. The damage is done. How can Fisher discipline his players now when they are late for practice?

Bottom line is he needs to show major improvement in his coaching now. This team needs win more than they lose or least have a team that gives 100% every single night. Because when they struggle and are in the middle of a long losing streak or worst they have another laughingstock year THIS scandal will Be used as further proof that he is not headcoaching material and leader. Which ultimately will led to him being canned. To which he probably wouldn't even blat an eye because not only was he never 100% all in and committed to coaching this team but he walks away with a boatload of money even with a buyout. Some coaches that actually do their time trenches and climb up the ladder with aspirations of becoming headcoaches never get a chance. When they do break through they are ecstatic for beinbt given the chance despite making peanuts. Let's never forget that Fisher did not have to go through the trenches. Phil had Dolan hand him a 5yr $25mil contract right out of the gate which was absurd to begin with. And this is how he repays them? He is the highest paid coach in the league! You have hall of fame coaches making half as much. Not a good look at all but win and all is forgotten
