Knicks · Before this preseason is over..... (page 1)
Jerian Grant will be the starter with Galloway being the backup. Calderón is officially old and should be a part of the coaching staff as the 3rd string point guard.
Kevin Seraphin is going to keep Rolo and O'Quinn minutes down. Kristaps looks to be the odd man out. He can shoot but he's not better than the other guys yet. He needs to keep getting better in practice.
Early is ready to be in the rotation, but so is Derrick Williams.... there's room for both if Fisher plays 10 guys, and he should.
Sasha Vujacic is going to be a great sub for us. It's unfortunate Afflalo is hurt, but I think Sasha is solid all around. Enough to be our starter until Afflalo can find his legs.

The starting group didn't play good defense. That's because of Kristaps often. Rolo said something to him a few times out there for falling asleep. O'Quinn and Seraphin were impressive on both ends and the boards.
That said, I see alot of minutes for O'Quinn and Seraphin at the 4 and 5 this season. They're interchangeable big bodies and seemed to play well together.
After preseason game 1 against an overmatched team from Brazil, I got to say Calderon is shot. He doesn't belong in the NBA anymore. Just looked old out there.
Vujacic looked eager and spry, but he was chucking like there was no tomorrow. Mostly misfiring badly. He belongs on the bench as a veteran sparkplug.
Melo was on fire last night. Then again it was Brazil, so I doubt he goes 8-10 consistently against NBA competition. His defense still sucks. His man got some easy layups on him at times.
RoLo looked like he will for most of the season. Just a big roadblock in the paint. He might not block alot of shots, but his wingspan and size will be a nuisance for any penetrators.
KP just looked nervous as phuck out there. Hesitant, unsure, overthinking. Kid's 20, he'll get there over time.
Jerian/Galloway. What can you say? That combo is what blew the game open. Jerian with the penetration, Gallo with his tough man to man D, grit, and bucket making.
Now we're on to Washington...
That team from brazil, plays a euro style whipping the ball around, constant PnR (which we still have a problem defending as a team) and took a million 3 pointers.
It's the exact same approach/system MDA used, it creates a zillion open 3's, and MDA abused teams when he had the shooters, no matter how good a defense you have, you can't defend the Pnr consistently, and sure as hell can't defend ball movement.
I would definitely not start grant or KP, at least not until they prove they get it.
Like 10 guys at the same level. Some are underdeveloped for various reasons and some are what they are - established role players.
We have a lot of redundant parts for future trades.
The team building is up to good start but it will be multi-year process.

Having a team with Flat Talent isn't necessarily a bad thing. It depends on the level that hey all perform at. Look at how the Bench guys performed overall. I think it's a good sign. If they can continue to perform well that is gonna really help this team this year. IMO this is a fairly deep roster with not a lot of top line talent but a decent quality level overall. You CAN WIN with that.

Definitely a bench spark player only. No more than 10-12 minutes a game.

Yeah Sasha is not here to be a major minute player. He has his role and only got the start due to injury. He will have his moments where he's hot shooting and that's not bad to have off the bench.

You would think we pulled a Nets last night. LOL. IMO this team blowing out Bauru is actually a good sign. This team wasn't even close to mid season form and still was way too much for Bauru. The Starting line up was a mess but the bench was strong. Once the guys who started pick up their play, which they will, this team should be in pretty good shape. It's going to be interesting to see what the Rotation ends up being.

KP's defensive IQ is low. He was slow to react, and was caught looking away from his man. He's not quick enough to help on guard penetration, while running out to the 3pt line to guard his man, who was a good 3pt shooter. Or sometimes his man simply cut to the paint, without KP knowing. By then it was too late. But I'm not sure there is any big other than Lebron, who can guard both penetration and stretch 4's shooting a three.
But in the long term, Fisher needs to mix up the slow feet and quick feet players, whenever he puts 5 on the floor. For example, if we are playing a team like Brazil, who shot more 3's than 2's, why would you put a big lineup on the floor? Some would say, pound them inside and force them to play big and shoot less. But when they are shooting the same percentage from 3.....as we are from 2.....Its the classic battle between scoring 3's and scoring 2's......Who wins? Fisher just needs to watch his balance within the starting lineup and during the flow of the game.
The bigs that can play SF and PF will be key for us. They must have quick feet and latteral quickness......Also help on drives and get back to their man on 3 pt shots. Thats asking a lot, but thats the position of todays SF. Thats also our weakest position. But D.Will will be key for us, because he has the quick feet to guard outside and inside. KP is better at PF or Center, until he increases his defensive IQ. We just played a team full of stretch 4's......Thats not the normal NBA team......But thats GS style of play, so we have to be able to defend against that.
We have the flexibility, but how we use it will be key to our season!

IMO KP is gonna be OK once he's able to be more alert on D. I think he started off a bit rattled by the moment, but once he settled in a bit he got better and ended the game with a 0 +/- which isn't bad considering how he started. The Kid needs Reps.
As long as Fish avoids having Jose, Sasha and Melo on the floor together at the same time, I don't see this team having any serious issues defensively. That's the combo that will be a problem IMO.
Calderon has made it thru 10 days of camp without issue and they might have told him to take it slow getting into playing shape. How can we judge?
Melo played his first game since February. He looked like his old self? That's good right? We won the game. That's good. Likely won on talent alone.
Teams can practice all they want and scrimmage but this was their first game together and for rookies first time in MSG as a knick!

Disagree for the most part.
- think KP6 will continue to start and play better
- Calderon will continue to start
- Grant/Galloway will continue bring energy/athleticism off the bench (but Gallo / AA could flip flop roles with AA being our bench scorer)
- Serephin --- I'm intrigued by but it will come down to his defense and does he turn the ball over more than put it in the basket
- Early is ready for the street corner -- not an NBA roster --- I have 100% more faith in D-Will and that is a sad statement
- Sasha I think will have his moments because he is fearless --- his moments will be bad and good
That being said people act like the Knicks lost.
