I know some people think he should come off the bench but I think this is the right move.. He is the future of this franchise let's start him and build his confidence. This shows him that the franchise and Phil believe in him. He also really opens the floor for Melo and the rest of the starters. The only starter that I feel should be replaced is Jose.
But I love the fire off the bench. In grant, dwill,O'quinn
Right move. Hide him behind the other vets in the starting lineup. He can just chip in where he can.
Let DWill and O'Quinn feast in the 2nd unit. Balance for both starting lineup and bench.

I actually now believe Oquinn is better than anyone anticipates and deserves bigger minutes and a starting position. I think he gives the starting line up a bit more toughness and balance than KP at this time.
KP could play with Admundson as the back up 5-4 on unit 2 with the better guards. We have too much scoring just sitting on unit 2 with Williams Oquinn Galloway and perhaps Early. I like KP at 15-18 minutes off the bench.
The sooner KP and Melo build some chemistry on the court, the better. I want to see Porzingis on the bench, and not starting if its health related, or KP is just playing too poorly to start. I don't see that happening, but you never know.

o'quinn's only a liability when he has to cover stretch 4s. everything else about his game you have to respect: hard fouls, passing skills, rebounding, midrange game.
on the other hand, i agree about kp starting. starters are going to have a hard time finishing at the rim with kp and lopez. i also think it is clear that in the brief time they have spent on the floor that melo and kp will be able to pay off each other. anyone that can play with melo and with whom melo wants to play is a huge plus for the knicks.
at the end of the day it isn't who stats but rather how many minutes certain players who have chemistry are on the floor together.
lopez/calderon
kp/melo
are two duos that seem to be meshing. afflalo will find away to work as a third element with both duos.
i agree about your bench, but please add galloway.
very promising indeed.
I would start him based on the match-ups.
If opponents have a starter stretch 4 or small lineup I would start KP.
If opponents have big post-up 4 then O'Q should start.
KP will need to play around 20 min if healthy anyways.
It is not about who is starting but who is finishing games..

Yes Galloway for sure I forgot to add him to our great bench... One thing I didn't like was fish giving Sasha the back up 2 spot ... I think Galloway should be the back up 2 and grant the back up one ... Sasha needs to be the third string for both guard spots.
Im cool with him starting. Upside is get him involved early, downside is he gets yanked and it hurts his confidence.

i don't want to see vujacic out there AT ALL
so now KP is starting and I assume sweet Lou will be a third teamer ... so much for that one.
Galloway keeps playing like he has played, he is gonna start (can't believe I am actually typing this)

I disagree. Start him based on matchup would kill our court continuity. You either make him a permanent starter or else. I refuse to watch the revolving door we had last season u dear Fisher
It's the smart move. He's the future of the team. You show confidence in his talent and ability to become a franchise player by starting him right away, and adjusting his minutes based on matchups and performance along the way. We have very good role players off the bench who can play big minutes but are used to being in reserve roles. None of them have the talent of KP. Keep him in the starting lineup no matter what and distribute minutes of your big men based on performance.

Yup...
No reason why he has to play the most minutes just because he starts. He also spreads the offense out for the rest of the starting team, and should end up as being one of the best pick and pop guys in the league if things work out the way I think they can.
O'Quinn may end up playing more at center than I originally expected, and Williams seems perfect off the bench at this point.
I'm more interested in seeing how Fisher and Phil use Seraphin and Early during the season.
Still say that a second unit of O'Quinn, Williams, Early, Gallo, and Grant would be a darn good group to watch, and one that could have some real success against many units an opponent can put out.

I agree. I think the flow of this rotation should work well given what we've seen so far. I like the change of pace of the bench players we have. KP will benefit from playing with the starters and developing that all important chemistry. These are the guys he's gonna be playing with over the next few years so why not get it going now? Until he shows that he must be removed I think they need to let him show how he handles the role. I'm sure they like what they see in practice or else he would not be in there IMO. He still has a lot of developing to do but it might just speed up the process playing with the starting vets.

Well....if KP starts....this gives Fisher the freedom to bench him in crunch time without hurting his confidence. I still believe KP off the bench gives us more balance. That means we always keep a rim protector on the floor. KP will be forced to play around the 3pt line with Rolo in the paint and Melo on the other block.
We're not utilizing kp to his full potential in that starting lineup. With the second unit he will be the focal point on offense....and we dont lose our rim protection. The paint isnt crowded so hes not forced to just shoot 3s.

no kp won't be the focal point of the offense of the second unit.. that's williams optimal role. what chemistry has williams developed with any among melo, lopez, afflalo, calderon? what aptitude has he shown for the triangle?
and this finishing games/hurt confidence angle is just weird.. the kid has played pro ball for years in spain. seems like you have it in for kp already.
Trust in Phil. If he and fisher decide KP needs to start, then it is all good for me. KP is going to be a big part of this team and his defense will make it hard for teams to score on our starting unit.

I think people forget that this offense is designed to have bigs in and around the paint. It's not crowded when everyone is executing the offense properly. You really aren't supposed to just be standing around and clogging up space without any purpose. The ball reverses and guys are supposed to move and set down screens or pop out for a drag screen etc. It's a proven system where you can play with bigs at the same time. Case in point would be Pau and Bynum.
