Knicks · Our big men are dreadfully slow (page 2)

I don't think he's a stiff but I have the same concerns. Definitely feels overpaid to me. Hopefully he has a bigger impact than what I'm anticipating.

We need to package these forwards we got and add a WCS type of backup center.
Take a deep breath everyone. Exhale.
The team is improved. They are not championship caliber yet. Neither were the Mets in June.
IT is a process and takes time. The pieces they have are movable. Deals will be available to them.
Lopez can play. OQuinn looks good. Seraphin will be fine. Melo will shoot like he always does. Afflalo will too. The young guys will improve. Fisher will get better as a coach.

I agree with everything. I think we have the right ingredients but the wrong recipe.

Agreed. I'm not panicking yet. 4 really well played games and 2 off games, and really it was just sloppy defense that did more damage than anything else. I'll take a 4-2 ratio all season long if we can get it.
mreinman wrote:I was big on the rolo signing but he has really looked slow out there.
That's cause he is slow and when he's going against these centers like Zeller that are smaller and quicker the other guys will have to help him and get back quicker.

You do understand that Phil isn't counting on this team to be the finished product right?? This is what he could do with the resources he had and this is not the finished product. Nobody not even Phil thinks this is the team we'll be going to the playoffs and winning playoff games with. Phil needs another year or two to get this team where he wants it.

Hey now who do you think you are coming on here and speaking logical?? You know a lot of these people on here don't look at logic. I'll say it again and i'm sure i'll repeat it many times this year................THIS IS NOT THE FINISHED PRODUCT AND IS PHIL JUST GETTING STARTED AND HE DID AS MUCH AS HE COULD WITH THE LIMITED RESOURCES HE HAD. ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT WERE EXPECTING THIS TEAM TO BE TURNED AROUND IN 1/2 YEARS ARE OUT OF THEIR MINDS AND NEED TO BE PATIENT AND GIVE PHIL THE TIME HE NEEDS TO TURN WHAT WAS A ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE ROSTER/TEAM.

Phil needs to build around melo now and KP longterm. But overall we need more young atletes that can break down a team and get to the rim. More DWill type of athleticism.

Yes but it's not something that can be done as quickly as some on here are expecting. Phil will be a busy man around the trade deadline. We have a team full of players that are assets and players that other teams would trade for which we didn't have at all the last couple of years. Building a team is a process and Phil is the first GM/President that had the balls to come in here and do it the right way while knowing he was gonna take a bunch of heat from impatient fans. New York Knicks fans should be happy that we're finally on the right path to rebuild this team the right way which many have been saying it needed to be done for years but every GM we had didn't want to rebuild this team the right way and just kept spending stupid money every year on horrible contracts. Things are moving in the right direction with Phil.
Phol got word Monroe didn't want to be here and signed with a far better Milwaukee team. I just can't comprehend why we felt the need to spend all the money reserved for Monroe or DeAndre who we had no shot at was forked over to Lopez who plays only half the minutes. I really hope I am wrong and he has a tremendous impact on the team outside of the numbers. Unfortunately that was the only move Phil made in the offseason I despised.
He is a professional rebounder, though, and Lopez is not as solid in this category.
On a positive note, Porzingis has been excellent boxing out, and even showed a nose for the ball yesterday, which I have to admit surprised me. He has some short space quickness going for the ball which was pretty evident yesterday, and with his length, you would think he'll be a more than competent rebounder, and when he matures physically, a good one.

new york--I think most fans want to be optimistic and look for upside in their own team. I want us to win now--I didnt like the way Robin Lopez played last night. I didnt like the fact that he was beat down court so badly as a veteran a number of times and then just doesnt have it on the offensive end. I know hes a rim protector but so far Cole Aldrich at 1mm per looks just as good(or better) He's got to play better than that.
We have some guys like Galloway Williams Early Affalo Grant--I wonder if we are better off going smaller and playing Melo at 4. You know KP might be better on unit 2 as a C/pf for 15 minutes year 1. I think I can see us with more cohesion going smaller. I think we can be a very decent team in fact. Win first develop second.

The starting unit has not had much playing time together, none of them seemed in rhythm, Especially melo. He played like it was a preseason game.
The bench is our biggest/depth weapon, I didn't think KP would start and be lights out in his first week.

We are definitely a bettersmall ball team. Our centers and PFs are old school half court slow bigs. When Fisher continurs to play them together throughout the game.....we will lose. Most teams have quicker forwards.....Even Tim Duncan is quick for his size. The problem we have is our deepest position are slow PFs. So this is why i think Fisher is the key to success. Will he sit most of the slow forwards and play more uptempo players? Seraphin, KP, OQuinn are PFs with speed of a center. When you pair these guys with Rolo....team speed just got even slower.
Melo or Dwill at PF makes the team faster. Melo and Dwill together with Rolo or KP at center makes since to me. Fisher has to decide which bigs have to bea DNP. Amundson is another slow forward that lacks athleticism. ....same with Lance Thomas. All these slow forwards need to sit. Below is an example of using what we have and making it more balanced with speed and rim protection....KP leads the second unit. Next yr KP and Rolo switch.....but I dont know if I like them playing together.

Melo............OQuinn
Dwill...........Early

I was taken back by the lack of cohesion in unit 1. I think they used the words adjustment in attitude coming out of the half. I agree with that but it was much more than that also. What got me optimistic early was what seemed to be an upgrade in defense and last night not only was the defense porous but the starting unit looked like it did not fit together well.

Maybe you move O'Quinn to 5 replacing Lopez?
I'm hoping that Anthony plays himself into SF shape for this season and next...you just don't recover from surgery as quickly when you are an older player.
Don't feel good opening up a can of worms so I hate to bring this up, because guys have beat me down over this and made light of it during the off season...but are we looking at a situation where getting his injury operated on later rather than earlier might have made a difference for this season...at least the early part?
Anthony was diligent during his recovery period, but could he have used another 2 months of rehab and weight training?
Just a thought

I suppose he could've, but it didn't really look that way to me the previous 5 games of this pre-season. We'll see how he feels and looks the first handful of games of the regular season.

DNP....Amundson
DNP....Thomas
Maybe you move O'Quinn to 5 replacing Lopez?I'm hoping that Anthony plays himself into SF shape for this season and next...you just don't recover from surgery as quickly when you are an older player.
Don't feel good opening up a can of worms so I hate to bring this up, because guys have beat me down over this and made light of it during the off season...but are we looking at a situation where getting his injury operated on later rather than earlier might have made a difference for this season...at least the early part?Anthony was diligent during his recovery period, but could he have used another 2 months of rehab and weight training?
Just a thought
Walt I would absolutely think about doing that--Ive thought about that.
