Knicks · Greg Monore is 100X better than Lopez (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 11/5/2015 12:51 AM
So if we had a chance and this is what we did--we missed in a huge way.

REALLY??? This is what you think was worth an entire thread? It's water under the bridge now. We have RoLo and he's here for a while. RoLo is the least of our problems. He's Waaaaaaaaaaay down the list.

Hes a back up making 14mm!

clyderules @ 11/5/2015 1:11 AM
He would be fine if we didn't run the offense through him. That's not what he does well.

Briggs: A classic article on your new favorite player, derriere extraodinaire, Greg Monroe http://nypost.com/2015/03/29/phil-jackso...

Your good friend,

Didn't you spend months saying we shouldn't sign Monroe? Oh is this like when you spent months saying we shouldn't draft WCS, how he'd be a disaster, and then after a couple of Summer League games said he was going to be great?

In fact here's a quote from you:

Best of luck watching the slow Monroe and the offensively challenged Stein get spread out and the Knicks can exploited like the Pistons did this year playing two bigs in.
You cant defend teams that have 5 guys who can shoot pass and drive. Were trying to go back to 1994 and it wont work.

Lopez isn't a problem for me- I see him as a Luke Longely type, who can easily be moved to backup when Porzingis is ready to assume the starting C spot in a few seasons. He's a place holder for me.

Maybe if he was making $8-9mil not $14mil

TheGame @ 11/5/2015 6:39 AM
In two years, every player that is worth a starting spot is going to be making $14-$16 million, so in the grand scheme of things, we did not really overpay that much. Lopez just missed his shots today. Last game, he hit those hookshots and looked a lot better.

Now as to your point, yes, there is no doubt Monroe is better. That is why we tried to sign him first. We missed out. Not sure there was anything else Phil could have done.

mreinman @ 11/5/2015 6:42 AM
Lopez is 1000x better defensively than monroe but who cares about defense.

a bunch of missed shots in 4 games and cue the silly threads

typical

"if we had a chance" - how many articles do you need to read from Monroe saying "I chose Milwaukee" to be convinced we didn't pass on him, he passed on us?

PresIke @ 11/5/2015 7:39 AM
5 games in and already throwing him under the bus.

We needed defensive help, and he will help. He is a good, veteran player to have on your team, and we need players like that period. We can get other skills from other positions.

gunsnewing @ 11/5/2015 7:55 AM
KP & Monroe would've set up your starting frontcourt for the next 15yrs. We are simply running out of spilled milk though. And we still have KOQ to man the 5 if KP wasn't ready. I will take KOQ AT $1mil as backup C over Career 20min per game lumbering Lopez for $14mil 10 out of 10 times

Monroe is not the correct player to build anything significant around.
Pass on him every time.
StarksEwing1 @ 11/5/2015 8:05 AM
To be fair outside of last night Lopez has been pretty solid. Last night he had his wortst game but he has been pretty good. Yes we overpaid for him but he is the least of our problems
babyKnicks @ 11/5/2015 8:11 AM
Lol. This isn't that strong a thread. But the comments saved it.

Briggs, how about a lebron is better than melo. Or Aldridge is better than oqiunn?

Especially if you are looking for someone to be any kind of defensive presence in the middle.

Detroit does not seem to have missed him much so far at this early stage of the season.

I would have been OK with him coming here, but he was not going to be a savior for the Knicks, just as Aldridge was not.

Neither Monroe or Aldridge were coming here, though, and Aldridge would have slowed KPs development.

Knowing what we now know after seeing Krisitaps, Monroe would have fit in fine with the Knicks since KP can provide the shot blocking and shot altering that Monroe is unable to do. Most of us did not think KP would be as ready as he is to contribute, though, and I think this can also be said of Jackson, who has to be surprised at KPs rapid progress so far.

Have to wonder if our free agent fortunes might have been different if KP had been seen as a more NBA-ready player- I expect may FAs might have turned away because the early evaluations were that Porzingis was 2+ years away from really competing.

Jmpasq @ 11/5/2015 8:59 AM
Monroe wasn’t pushing the storyline, though: He was reluctant to delve into details about his 2015 free agency, which he now views as irrelevant to the upcoming season. His agent, David Falk, told the News that all four teams that met with Monroe in free agency — including the Knicks, Lakers and Blazers — were offering max deals for any number of years desired. In the end, Falk said, the decision was centered on Milwaukee’s position as an emerging contender in the Eastern Conference.

“It wasn’t about presentation or marketing,” said Falk, the former agent for Michael Jordan, who noted that he has a good relationship with Jackson and Knicks GM Steve Mills. “It was about what Milwaukee already brought to the table.”

Can we stop with the narrative the Knicks didn't try to sign him. They offered a max deal, the guy didnt want to play in NY. I'm not surprised really, why would u willingly sign up for this crap

This is what players make in the modern league. We need to stop on here with some of the contracts. Look at what was given out this off-season. Shump for 10mil a year. Thompson got over 15 mil a year. Both role players and one dimensional. The salary complaint doesn't hold water in comparison to what happened around the league this off-season.

Then why has he only averaged 24mins per game for his career?
