If he's come this far in an offseason, why put a cap on what he'll be by the end of this season.

Let's not make the same mistake and assumed he's reached this ceiling.

Knicks fans talk a big game about defense, they just never want to pay for it.

arent you the guy that says 8 games means nothing?

Yes, but the defense isn't new. It's always been there.

Offensively, yes, it could be an aberration. Who the hell knows. 8 games is not enough. But no sense in determining his market value now, is my point.

You dont want to undervalue your own guys, but you dont want to overpay them either. At least not the role guys.

In a $89-then-$109 cap league, state-of-the-art Lance Thomas is worth more than $1.6m. Salaries are relative. ALL salaries are going up, significantly. Not just the max guys.

agree... but the max guys are the most important, and we are looking at a situation where we have a lot of cap space. Land a big fish or shore up the spare parts? tough call

Might not matter all that much. I believe the Knicks will own his early Bird Rights. And while he'll be a UFA, depending on his market, the Knicks could maintain his low cap hold, do their business (cap out), and then pay him up to $6m, which is 104.5% of this season's estimated average.

That'll cost you cap room the NEXT season when it jumps again, but he might be worth it.

See the massive energy Greek Freak II brought? Think he should make the team?

Energy is not enough for NBA. The other two 10 day contractors last year -- Lou and Stymie - brought a lot more than just energy. They definitely belonged there last year and this year. I believe Thomas made the team this year simply because he improved his game. He showed much more in Summer League and I suppose he was showing a lot more in camp. He impressed the organization this summer/fall so he made the team.

Hahahaha did you just compare L.Thomas to Thumpo?? Thumpo has absolutely no offense and way too much energy to where he was out of control so that's a horrible comparison. I believe they knew they were gonna bring him back this year before last year even ended.

Around town I happen to be known as the "Lance Thomas" of forum posters. Just to let you know.

This team will go as far as Lance Thomas can take us.

Fisher believes in him, so he needs to perform for us to win.

I think Seraphin falls into this category as well.
