Seeing Jerian Grant 3rd among all rookies in Net Rating however is a big surprise, especially considering the lack of buzz surrounding the 23-year old Notre Dame product. After diving into some more advanced stats, the reasons start to become clearer. The Knicks are scoring at their highest rate from paint, in transition, and the free throw line at their highest rate when Grant is in the game, more so than any of the Knicks’ other regular rotation players (This is both credit to Grant and his benchmate Langston Galloway and something of indictment of the Knicks’ starting guards Jose Calderon and Sasha Vujacic, though the latter has been replaced by the now-healthy Arron Afflalo).Defensively, the Knicks are generating turnovers at their highest rate when Grant on the floor, at a rate of 15.7% with him on the floor versus 11.2% when he sits. Grant himself is scoring 45.2% of his points in the paint, and a further 27.4% from the free throw line. Those are the best shots in basketball, and as long as he continues to generate them, Grant has a good chance to replace Jose Calderon as the starting point guard.

Yeah it's amazing how numbers tell a different story than the eyes see sometimes. Jerian's continued development is a huge factor for this team. The better he gets the more of a positive impact his presence will make down the line. We really need Jerian to improve and take more of a lead role for this team. He needs time to gain more of a comfort level.

Don't watch any of Philly and didn't see Okafor in college much but I am wondering how much of an influence a bad team around him has on his individual play. Switch out OK4 for KP and would KP look horrible or as good as he has?
Never liked the fact that Okafor didn't do as much on the defensive end of things, but how much support does he have from guard play. If anything, this is a year where I would want my player to shoot as much as possible to learn the position.
Also, he is playing alongside Noels, so would that effect rebound rate?

Philly has been losing but have been in most of their games. They are playing competitive basketball and have a good system. OK4 is getting lots of touches and his main issue from what I see (aside from his horrible defense) is that he is terrible at passing out of the double teams and teams are exploiting this by really coming hard at him and forcing turnovers or forced shots.
Noels is rebounding at 10 per 36 with is not world beating. Ok4 gets his rebounding opps but is just not a great rebounder.
MAN! I wasn't paying attention the 1st time I looked at the stats but look at KP's Defensive Rating!!!! KP and Towns are really doing it on D!

kp is the better team player.
okafor doesn't need to shoot more he needs to pass more, in my opinion.
noel could be affecting his rebounding numbers, that's true.

That post really highlights the exact reasons I wanted WCS over Okafor. Though I knew nothing about KP and was happy to be wrong about him. Long live KP.

He's in a bad situation for his development- on that kind of team, all he'll do is solidify his bad habits. I worry he'll just remain one dimensional - pretty much Al Jefferson.

Not great. He palms the ball like tim duncan and he looks like he can/will make the sweet passes out of the double but he holds it for too long trying to be too perfect. The key to passing out of the double teams is to pass it quickly (while the guy is coming not when he is already there). He needs to be much more decisive.
While I don't care for his game or his type of player, I think that he actually has the potential to be a very good passer.

his coach is going to have to supplant his father as the main guiding voice in his life. the father will have to allow that to happen, and give the coach his blessing.

OK4 is still extremely immature physically, IMO. Not as much as KP, but still baby.
He's going to have to take off the fat, and if he wants to keep the weight, put it back on with muscle. His lower body has a lot of extra baggage on it...you wonder if the weight thing will be an issue for him in the future.
He's probably been able to bully other players for much of his developing career, and probably developed some bad habits during that time.
I think he's going to be fine, although he seems to lack some instinct in areas outside of his offensive game.
Did not know about any of the issues with his father...what exactly is he doing that would hold OK4 back? I know of the story with his mom's death- I assume it moved father and son a lot closer.
