Putting Gallo as the the starting point guard would provide the perfect compliment (with his defense) to the starters. Jose will give that extra scoring (As an off guard)to a 2nd unit that needs a kick in the butt. Think he'll also help Grant as well.
Galloway
Afflalo
Melo
KP
Lopez
Grant
Calderon
Williams
Thomas
O'Quinn/Seraphin
Gallo is not a PG. He can handle a little bit, but he looks bad trying to orchestrate. He is better as a 2-guard/combo guard who catches and shoots off of ball movement, or finishes at the rack when the opportunity presents itself. Yes his overall man D is superior, but the offense would stagnate even more if he were the primary initiator. Calderón makes better decisions with the ball and gets other guys quality looks much more proficiently than Gallo has ever shown he can.
We are thin at PG no doubt. Grant is not ready and Calderón's D can be lacking. However, over the last several games Calderón's defensive effort has been decent and his overall D has not been a main reason for the Knick losses. In fact he has been pesky, gotten a few steals and generally been fine. He is clever and protects the ball well and moves it to the right spots, makes few mistakes when running the offense. Not flashy, but effective in a quiet way.
That said, an upgrade at PG should be at the top of PJax's list.

Calderon is an enigma; specifically on offense. One game he is aggressive shooting the ball, the next game he only takes 2 or 3 shots. Defensively, because of Calderon our bigs almost always end up in foul trouble, because they have to try to mask Calderon's inefficiencies.
At this juncture of his career, he is no longer a starting PG. he is best suited for a backup role as SG.
Gallo isnt a pg, they tried that during the summer league and it wasnt pretty. Gallo also needs to get out of this slump he has been in lately

Agree. Also, I think Walt pointed out that the slump seemed to coincide with Gallo getting increased minutes at the point with Grant losing time SASHA.
calderon may be our most reliable player right now. We need him on the floor as much as possible. His shot has been MONEY! and he does not turn the ball over. Also, he seems to understand the offense.
He is not getting penetration which is a problem and he is getting pressed and has to give up the ball way too high too often.
Overall ... he is by far our best guard right now.
His overall offense likely will fall to more normal numbers. He's not a money shooter. certainly not a starter and definitely not a pg.

Is Calderon still a pg? SL was only three games. Start Gallo and then bring in Calderon early for Lopez or Afflalo. I think I am leaning to Lopez to keep Kevin/Oaq/lou off the court as much as possible.
