There's no way Rose would fit in the Triangle, or Phil Jackson would trade for Rose.
As much as I would be open to a Melo trade for long term prospects, Melo is a much better player than Rose at this point.

I feel Melo/Porzingis do have chemistry. It's the guards and wings that don't have that much chemistry with Porzingis. They often miss him on lobs, mistime a lot of the passes and can't see him open inside or outside. Now Rose may help there, but he'd struggle in the Triangle.

The Knicks don't need a protypical point guard, they need a wing who can play point. Someone who has a lot of wing skills, yet can recognize the open man, make the pass, bring the ball up and initiate. Thing skillsets like Pippen, Odom, Harper, not skillsets like Rose.

Where we're struggling on offense is guys like Afflalo, Thomas, Melo, all 3 are guys that tend to look to shoot then pass too often. The Triangle needs a wing in there who has a pass first mindset or knows how to read a defense and see the openings. To Melo's credit he is trying, but it's not natural.

If a Melo deals happens, I think two things to happen for it to go through. 1) Somewhere he can contend for a ring, because he won't waive the NTC in any other scenario 2) I'd need to get a heck of a prospect back. A deal I thought about a few times was Dragic/Winslow/Johnson for Melo. Miami would have Whiteside/Bosh/Melo/Wade. Dragic's having a bad year but fits in with what the team needs from a point guard in the Triangle. Winslow is an extremely gifted athlete who defends very well, his offense will come with time. And Johnson has been impressive as well. Not sure if Miami would let go of Winslow, but with Wade/Bosh nearing the end of their careers, they need to make a push to make a run.

Still though, at this point, I'd give Melo/Porzingis more time. There's free agency money to spend, and so far Phil Jackson has proven he'll spend it on players that will help right away. I also think the Knicks players around Melo/Porzingis are quite movable in a trade.

I thought that Calderon was statistically the worst PG in the league, but I heard on ESPN last week that this distinction (incredibly) falls on Rose. Big contract, cant stay healthy, and someone who will sit and watch his teammates making trips to the hospital during the playoffs, while he was dunking in front of them in warmups. No thanks.

Would love to bring Noah here, been saying it for years, but as a bench player. Dont want to give up Rolo at 27 for an aging Noah because this trade wouldnt bring us any closer to a ring. Melo is a better option at this point in their careers than Rose.

Melo Rolo Jose for Rose Noah Gibson....will not happen. lol

I think Chicago would fly out to deliver Rose and Jimmy Butler would help Rose pack.

Terrible, man! Noah is a FA this offseason- if you want him you can just sign him for free. Why would we want broken down, injury prone, awful shooting, overpaid, sulky Rose (Stephon Marbury II) and Taj Gibson for Melo and Calderon?

They get better, we get worst. Rose appears to be a shell of himself after injuries,, Noah seems always to be hobbled and Gibson is simply another career reserve going on 31. Only rational for deal would be to dump the deals of Melo and Lopez that run thru 18-19 to reboot in fa. Lopez $ look high today but they wont look crazy as cap rises. Melo? He is still one of the prime scorers in game despite the repetitive whines about his shortfalls. You only would do this trade if you KNEW for certain that org would getting Durant or LeBron or a Westbrook in 17. Cap space sounds great but only as good as getting to use on the top players you want. KP is a nice building block but there is little roster allure beyond and we'd have plenty of holes to fill. PASS

I like briggs' deal better where we get 19 unprotected first rounders from each team.

Me too, think of the number of players we could draft then ban from shooting 3 pointers!

Looks like I got everyone on the same page loving Melo Rolo and Jose again!
I would have thought that was impossible here -
Merry Christmas :)

Today KP is back to 33.3% which is good so all quiet on the insane front.

I wish that KP did not take that fling at the buzzer and hurt his 3%. Melo should have taught him to shoot it a sliver after the buzzer. LEADERSHIP!

Always have thought that Melo is a very good player when he is locked in and could be a part of a Championship team but not the focal point of one unless every other guy was both defensively a plus and also smart, solid offensively. Melo has several glaring weaknesses, we all know them. Realistically he is Robin on a team with a solid Batman and maybe another type of Robin on it.

But, if you are going to trade him, you need to get something long term in return. If fact, several solid pieces and at least 1 very high level player on a very manageable contract. Knicks will have cap space over the next years, so trading him with Jose for the sake of cap space is not a plus IMO.

Noah is hurt (and 30 and expiring) and Taj not 20 any more. Is Rose even an all star any more?

For me, a trade with the Bulls must include Mirotic and Portis.

SMH that some of you want to mess up the good thing we have going with Melo/KP, we have two superstar talents for the first time since the 70s and you guys want to sabotage it. I think Knick fans arent happy unless they are miserable. Melo is basically KP's wall right now, when we lose games no one is going to blame KP, he can just be a rookie, but if we trade Melo all of the pressure of the franchise comes down on KP all of a sudden. If you guys really are a fan of KP and care about his success then why would you even want him to be in that position? Plus he has Melo to mentor him through everything he will face as a superstar in NY. Lets also keep the simple fact in mind that we dont own our draft pick this year and need to win as many games as we can so we dont hand Ben Simmons over to our division rivals in Toronto. So trading Melo, especially when he isnt asking out is a dumb idea on so many levels especially when we have cap space to bring in othr players anyways.
