Now holds a 7,000 lead over Drummond.
crzymdups @ 1/14/2016 1:25 PM
I vote for him and KP every day.

Agreed. Drummond is fun to watch and Detroit has emerged a little bit, so he got some early buzz. Drummond definitely belongs as a reserve though.

Kyrie, Wade, Melo, LeBron, and PG seem locked in.

I think for reserves: Drummond, Bosh, Lowry, Wall, Millsap, Butler all belong. One more spot, maybe P. Gasol or I. Thomas.

crzymdups @ 1/14/2016 4:33 PM
One thing that is kinda cool - if Melo starts, he might be guarding Kobe in the game.

Starting lineups right now:

Lowry
Wade
Melo
PG
Bron

Curry
Westbrook
Kobe
Durant
Green

Also, the East overall may be deeper than the West, but that West lineup is waaaaay better than the East, even with Kobe. If Kawhi Leonard were starting over Kobe as he deserves to, the West may just annihilate the East completely.

As it stands, I'm guessing Kobe will take like 20-30 shots in the ASG.

....and P.George, IMO.

Maybe not MORE deserving but just as deserving.

PG still gets the edge because of defense (even though melo is playing better defense, he is far from PG on dee)

Do you still give a lot of weight to win shares?

I do but Melo's is trending up pretty steadily and there are other factors as well.

But the all-star game is for how you've done all season, not the recent trend. It's the 2015-16 season's all-star game, not the January all-star game, after all. I agree there are other factors, though. What else are you looking at?

The All-Star vote is about who the fans around the world want to see. Which is why Kobe is the leading vote-getter.

a number of things. Who fans want to see, who is playing better now, who is more valuable to their team, what would happen if you took each player off the team, ... its popularity contest. You want to see drummond get some rebounds in the ASG? I can do without it.

Right but in this context, mreinman and I are debating who deserves to be there for this season, not who the fans want to see.
Edit: Maybe that's not what we're discussing. I just saw his reply. Oh well.
If we're discussing who the fans want to see, then Kobe, Melo, Lebron, and others are clear-cut choices.

Bpm and vorp have Melo ahead of Drummond.

melo's numbers are really hurt because of the way he started. Now that he is in a groove he is clearly playing better than Drummond.

So yes you can look at the whole season but playing well at the right time makes a difference when it comes to perception and voting windows.

And, if melo gets his TS back to his average, his WS48 will trend much higher if he stay ThisMelo

This is how a fan speaks more than an objective outsider. IMO Melo's playing great now and I'm happy to see that. But you can't just ignore a whole month or more of the season, unless you're going to remove the 20 worst games from every player.
Almost all the stats would actually say Love, Bosh, Millsap and maybe even a few other forwards have had better seasons than both Melo and Drummond actually.

I am a fan but outsiders are also fans of the all star game. This is not an MVP vote, its an allstar vote. Maybe my use of "deserving" was wrong.

Also, do you not think that its more important to play well to close the season than to start the season? Are all games equal? Interesting question? How about the first 10 minutes of a game or the last 10 minutes? Are they the same? Some stat purists may say yes but I don't think they are the same.
