Knicks · I have a feeling that Riley is about to pull a big trade within the next few days.... (page 1)

Knicks1969 @ 1/19/2016 9:55 PM
I am watching their team play Vs. the. Bucks and they can't buy a basket. They are in need for a SF that can put the he ball in the baskets. They thought Dragic was the answer in the back court, but it has not worked out for them thus far. Look for the Heat to cause an earthquake very soon; because, they have the team to beat Cleveland and reach the finals. Maybe they will look to get a guy like Kevin Martin in a smaller deal, but I believe they will aim much higher then that.

How would Rudy Gay fair in Miami?????? He is sort of an ISO plaYer like Carmelo, but not as efficient. Playing between Bosh, Wade, Whiteside might help elevate his cared.

What will the Knicks do? Given how disjointed Cleveland seem to look, a move here and there; specifically, to salvage our issues at PG might help take us over the top.

EnySpree @ 1/19/2016 10:10 PM
I was thinking Rudy Gay to miami as well. Sacramento had been shopping him and miami has throw away players to give sactown.
EnySpree @ 1/19/2016 10:17 PM
As far as our Knicks, we're just another plug in player away to becoming a legit playoff team. Fisher already settled on his guys off the bench. I don't think a big trade will work for the Knicks. Some internal work maybe. Sign a free agent or calling someone up. I think this group needs to finish up the season for the most part

Dang is fished, he can no longer be relied upon. They need a shot maker like Gay to relieve the scoring burden from Wade and Bosh. If you ask me, other then from their coaching staff, I don't believe they are that much better then the Knicks; special due to the emergence of KP

Could see Markieff Morris being a Riley type, too. You could basically get Markieff for free right now.

Man, Riley gets soooo much credit with some of you.

A 37-45 team last year is so far a very (relatively) healthy 23-19 team this year, and that record is liable to get worse over the next 3 weeks as they continue their road gauntlet.

Maybe the Heat are just who their record indicates they are and not some sleeping giant?

To be honest, the first time the Knicks played them in November they looked like a sleeping giant. They looked fricking fantastic. But when we played them a few weeks ago in early January, I thought they looked extremely average. I don't know if they took a step back somehow, but it sort of seems like they did.

When you can orchestrate the type of deals to bring in: Shaq, Lebron, Bosh, and find the nerves to win 4 championships with the aforementioned, you deserve all of the credits in the world

I believe you and I have been over Riley's role in the Big 3. He helped facilitate a deal the Big 3 cooked up themselves.

But that said, look again at what I quoted. You wrote "they have the team to beat Cleveland and reach the finals."

"Have" ... present tense.

You're giving the post-James Heat credit for things they haven't shown. They are 60-64 since the start of last year, are 4-6 the last ten, which is likely to reflect who they are (if not worse) for a while.

You're giving Wade-Bosh-Deng-Dragic-Whiteside more credit than they've earned.

Not sure there is any way around that.

In November, the Hornets, Magic, Pacers, Celtics, Heat and Pistons ALL looked better than they probably were.

That's why you play 82.

I'd give at least half of the credit for getting those players to D.Wade, the fact that players want to play and live in Miami/South beach and taxes. Miami/South Beach will always be a place that players want to play whether it's P.Riley there or any other GM. Compare New York in the winter time and the New York taxes to Miami in the winter time and the Miami taxes.

Give more...how it came about is well documented.

Riley deserves credit. He caught wind of it and help promote the idea and facilitate it happening. No if, ands or buts.

But he was neither the composer nor the conductor. Just a lead instrument.

I am in this camp. First of all Bosh is a career first half performer. Every year his production drops considerably over the last 30-40 games in the season. Wade's body is reaching the Iverson stage... dude is kept together by stretchy shirts and duct tape. I will say there is some upside as I would expect Dragic to figure things out and improve. Winslow can certainly get better and more eff% as well. Sleeping giant? Not seeing that. They have some things that can get better and some others that can get worse. I see them as a middle playoff team... maybe 45-48 wins who can advance if they get a favorable matchup or swept if they dont. Time will tell and I think they have done well dealing with Lebron's departure.

Riley has done well. He always does. If you followed how it all went down he was very instrumental in landing Lebron, dont poopoo that. Some of what he's done was simply out of need. Who would you rather have? Bosh at 3/$77mm remaining or Melo at 3/$79mm ??? (includes $28mm player option we assume Melo opts into)

First time in a long time I would be totally 100% if the Knicks did nothing at the deadline and simply focus on continuing to improve internally.

NardDogNation @ 1/20/2016 12:54 PM
If only we had "a 'SF' that could put the ball into the basket" to offer the Heat....if only....

Seriously, I'm still on board with Melo for Winslow and (whatever we get from a 3rd team for) Dragic. I'm all in on Porzingis being our franchise's future and know he'll need a running mate (see Winslow).

Wade, Bron and Bosh came up with the idea of playing together in Miami so how hard of a job did Riley have at getting them signed when they all knew they'd have to take pay cuts to play together??

You'd be putting an enormous pressure on KP to score, because Winslow can't.

Yeah as much as it would be great to add a young talent like Winslow, Melo is here to stay and we are much better off for it. For everyone talking about how we need to be careful with KP and preserve his health while he gets used to an nba schedule, trading Melo and increasing his workload is the worst thing possible.

I'm not making the move for just this season though. I'm thinking about the talent it would take to build a sustainable winner. There would be growing pains but it'd be worth it in the future once Winsow polishes his offensive game and hopefully begins to look more like what Jimmy Butler is now.

Why does trading Melo necessitate an increased workload for Kristaps? Dragic could be a scorer with the ball in his hands, Deng would be good for 12 ppg, Winslow is a decent enough shooter, Rolo is coming into his own....we wouldn't be the Warriors but I think we could hold our own offensively.

SupremeCommander @ 1/20/2016 3:07 PM
what about Jose and AA else for Justice Winslow and Goran Dragic? The Knicks woudl probably need to throw something else in but I would like to see something similar happen
