really terrible mate

I look at GS SA CLev --we dont need Lopez --but I think you're right Boston does. If you believe R Lopez is an answer for the Knicks to win a championship--I guess you dont think about it. I tend to look at the Knicks as a work in progress and we need more assets. This frees up 13mm in cap and gives us a sweet spot to draft 3 good players--we move KP to C next year and use the cap space to find a much cheaper replacement for Ro Lo--as in Borban from SA for 5-6mm.

sure.. but the assets you are getting back suck. So a late first rounder and some 2nd rounders are going to help us compete for a title? I guess you didnt think about it much either eh?

you propose a trade that immediately makes us worse, helps a rival and sends a very poor message to potential FAs and claim its so we can win a championship.

But Im sure after flipping Lopez 40ish games into a 4 year deal Boban will be DYING to sign with the Knicks for cheap. Did you consider that?

We won 17 games last year. You are talking about trading for last first round picks to compete with SA/CLe/GS. Not making much sense.

My personal opinion is that KP will be out starting C or SHOULD be. I dont feel looking at the NBA we need a Ro Lo for 13mm. If we can get a good secondary C for 5-6 mm thats good enough. What would I do with a 21 31 and 34----HMM guard guard center. and then I have max money for another pro guard---YEP 5 guards 3 draft picks to hit 1 or 2 right.

If our frontline players were KP Boban and lets say one of our picks is AJ Hammonds--were good at C. Now we move to a MOBILE 4 and one of their back ups can be Willy G. This makes us much better--more with what wins in the league.

If you're not happy with $13 mil per on Rolo, you're going to be clinically depressed when you see what Dragic brings for $18 mil per.

who what who said anything about G Dragic? I would NEVER pay him 18mm. I dont even want him at all.

Briggs Seems you hate RoLo, you're always making threads fantasizing about jettisoning the guy. I guess one can make an argument he is overpaid for what he does, I don't agree, but the argument can me made nonetheless. But really?$? David Lee??? I know as Knicks fans we pine over former players who we've let go but do you honestly believe washed up David Lee would help this team more than Ronin Lopez? That is borderline surreal as a trade proposal.

RoLo is a sold defensive C who offers rim protection and does not need plays run for him. Additionally he is very effective slotted next to KP and is a glue guy who does all the things that "don't show up in the box score" yet nevertheless help the team win. He is also smack dab in the middle of his prime and while his salary may be a tad high (arguable) when the cap skyrockets next season that argument will no longer valid.

In my opinion it would be insane to trade him for a washed up David lee who couldn't even play defense during his peak years. This trade would be horrible even factoring in the late round picks (and I love draft picks).

RoLo for David Lee would be beyond horrendous. Wow

NBA is changing.
Categorizing by starter/backup label is getting old.
Players who can play multiple position on offense and defend multiple positions both on NBA level are those who will take majority of minutes. Are this players starting or not is irrelevant. They play 30+ min and finish the game.
Rolo in not this type. He is traditional role player and pretty good one at that.
With cap changes his compensation is a bargain.
he should be traded only if we have exceptional trade opportunity coming our way.
I cannot see anything of value around that can be done.
As boring as it is this is a fact to accept for any reasonable fan.

I think we find out over time that KP is a 5. Hes 7-3--he cant guard 3-4. KP at 5 gives us more options at 4 I think we can replace Ro Lo for MUCH cheaper. What the team needs with KP is guards--thats my .02

Ira @ 2/2/2016 7:39 PM
What Briggs' trade would do would get rid of Lopez's horrendous contract. The guy I'd like in return for Lopez is Amir Johnson rather than Lee, though we'd have to add something of value to get him.

Check the ESPN's +- for Power Forwards - Johnson is 6th in the league. Lopez is 57th among centers. Johnson is easily the better defender.
