Knicks · knicks next game is a day after the trade deadline (page 1)

Against Brooklyn....

how different will our Knicks look?

crzymdups @ 2/10/2016 12:16 PM
I don't think we have enough assets to make a major trade. Unless it's Melo.
VCoug @ 2/10/2016 12:30 PM
Not very different. KP is obviously untouchable and Melo has a NTC. Lopez has value but I doubt we trade him. I'd like to see if we can trade Afflalo, Derrick Williams, and Calderon for some combination of picks but don't know which teams would be willing to give up anything of value for them. LAC could definitely use Calderon as a backup for Paul but I don't see an obvious trade to make there.

The only trade the LAC could do is Lance for Calderon which makes since for both teams if the FO was rational but Phil probably doesn't want to do that. Bring in shaw to baby sit him for half a year and release him in the summer.

I think AA makes a lot of since for OKC. He would be an upgrade of the bench or in the starting unit. Similar to JR going to cleveland, all AA would have to do is be a spot up shooter. Hopefully they would give up a few of their many 2nd rd picks.

EnySpree @ 2/10/2016 12:55 PM
We just have to simplify things.

Step #1: We absolutely need to upgrade Calderon. At the very least we need a talented athlete to take his minutes away at pg. A guy like Wroten who's dangling waiting for Phil to figure out what he wants to do. It could be Jimmer too, but Wroten size and defense trump whatever Jimmer can do for us right now.

Step #2: There can only be one backup behind Melo. Either Derrick Williams or Lance Thomas. Cleananthony is almost ready to make his way back to the court so the Knicks can stand to lose Lance or Derrick.

Step #3: There can only be one backup big. Either Seraphin or o'quinn has to go. Seraphin is the better post scorer. I think their defense and rebounding are a wash between the two. Seraphin should be our guy. We have Lou Amundson at the end of the bench so wed be good with depth.

That leaves o'quinn, and possibly Derrick Williams as trade chips. We don't have time to baby Grant so I would add him to that mix. Who can we get in return? Again that's a matter of calming down and seeing what we have and what we need.

Pf: KP
Sf: Melo
c : Rolo
pg: Wroten
sg: Afflalo

first big of the bench: Seraphin
first guard off the bench: Galloway
back up pg: Calderón
backup sf: Lance

Can the Knicks get another legit forward or 2 guard to add to the rotation?
There are guys dangling around the league. Guys not so attractive but could be missing pieces to what we are trying to do.

Rookie @ 2/10/2016 1:09 PM
Tony Wroten. 6'-5" 205lbs = big PG. 23 years old. He wants to play here, so will buy in to the whole zen trianlge deal. Cap friendly, talented, recovering from injury still so not playing at 100% which is still 90% better then anyone else on the roster. Perfect for drive and kick, change of pace, PnR. Not a good outside shooter but has handles and very good court vision. Maybe not a great defender of small faster PG's, but paired with Gallo would instantly be an upgrade on D over what we have. Can force things and turn the ball over.

The cheap no frills option. Knicks could use the chips to fill another void. Which is probably shooting guard

Wouldn't Early have to have played at some point to be making his way back to the court? Let's be realy, he's a 2nd round pick who hasn't played at all in his short career. He's gone after his contract is up this season.

Were talking 3rd string small fwd dude. We only need Melo and Either Lance or Derrick. Early would be sitting next to Lou waiting for someone to get hurt

I like this idea of simplification but don't get the Wroten stuff. I'll admit I haven't followed him but I can't see the logic of expecting a guy who was cut from the sixers and then unemployed coming in and starting in a helpful way. Even if we picked him up I would hope it was a 10 day experiment.

The Lance versus Derick debate is interesting. LT Has the versatility to guard a guard, and a better jumper, but I have a feeling mgmt likes Derrick's athleticism and upside.

Wroten is still the low risk high reward gamble. Again 10 day contact? Maybe sign him to the minimum for the rest of the year if he fits? Sounds good to me. Knicks could trade for more help elsewhere if we can't get a point guard. Keep in mind Wroten has averaged 16pts/5 rebs in this league. It was on the Sixers but the stats are still nba stats. The foundation for success is there for cheap

fishmike @ 2/10/2016 2:11 PM
I think the guys who need to be resigned and have value will be gone. If we can get a longer term part for AA/DWill/Galloway/Seraphin locked in I think some combo of those guys are moved
fishmike @ 2/10/2016 2:11 PM
^^ include Lance in there

Can't be any worse than Vujacic and at least Wroten has a chance to get better.

EnySpree @ 2/10/2016 5:44 PM
This isn't all about Wroten. Plenty of dangling players out there

Gotta wonder if Jerian is gonna be in the Gym putting up 500 shots a day! In addition to wanting to bring in more help it would also help of guys raised their game. Jerian I thought would eventually take the job from Jose at some point in the season. I've been disappointed in his lack of progress. I feel Fish should've played him and KP together more often and as we saw when they finally had them together it looked really good in the Drag Screen and PnR game. Wonder what Rambis intends to do with Jerian?

Difference between a guy like KP and Jerian. Kp want to prove he belongs and works tirelessly at it. He was ready day one. Jerian still looks lost. He has zero confidence. If a guy has no confidence you can't do anything for him. Jerian had his share of chances. He's been playing. Forcing a guy to play 30 mins per without proving they deserve it is toxic behavior. Jerian has to prove he belongs.

Yes I agree with that for the most part. I just liked how Jerian looked out there with KP and we hardly saw that combo all year. At one point they had only played a total of 17 minutes together and not much more floor time came after that point. I also like how Melo and KP work off each other. Need to see that more too.

I think the Pelicans would have interest in Afflalo as well and are dumb enough to end up overpaying for him. I wouldn't mind flipping he and Calderon for Eric Gordon's expirer and some unprotected 2nd round picks. With them being as terrible as they are, this year's 2016 pick would be damn near a 1st rounder. Maybe we could even have Norris Cole included and then move him to another team for yet another 2nd rounder.

I'd probably see what Gordon can still do (think he'd be a pretty decent 6th man) and then sign Jimmer Fredette and/or Tony Wroten to see what they can do in Calderon's role (cause we'd be throwing in the flag for the season).
