It's well known that the Lawson experiment in Houston has not worked out. He's had his off the court issues, as well as not fitting into their system. He's currently their backup PG getting paid 12 million per. In other words, his trade value could not be any lower right now.
How about offering Calderon paired with either D Will or Afflalo (take their pick) for Lawson. Lawson's contract expires next year at 13 million. Calderon's expires the same at roughly 8 million. Rockets get their backup point guard who is a model citizen and leader--not a distraction.
We get our starting point guard for this and next season and upgrade at the position. Now keep in mind that before going to Houston, while in Denver, Lawson was a top 7 point guard in the league and he's still in his prime. If he buys into our team culture with mentorship, he still has tremendous talent. He is still a blur with the ball with penetration and can knock down the 3 ball. For once we'd be taking a risk and buying low on a guy.

Jose is a really good guy and well liked in the locker room. His shortcomings as a player are known and well documented. However the downside to bringing in Lawson is large. You remove a stabilizing presence and potentially add a toxic one for a player that probably doesnt move the needle very much.

Agreed...but the difference in talent level is enormous. If Lawson is behind his issues and committed, he is a top 7 point guard talent who is still in his prime. It is a gamble. You are rolling the dice, but he wouldn't be available for so little had he not had these issues. If we weren't so desperate for an upgrade and had such little assets, I would be against it, too.

Basketball wise I would probably take the gamble, but is it fair to put an alcoholic on a NY team with all the nightlife temptation? It wouldn't sit right with me.

He waived the final year of his contract to bet on himself and he hasn't been able to put it together. It does sound like things are really bad in Houston though. Maybe getting out of there would help him.

I agree with that. My ultimate goal is Conley, but I would take a look at Wroten now.
I wouldn't be opposed to MCW if we didn't have to give up a real asset. I'd actually rather hold onto Grant than trade him for MCW though.
Nah. I always thought he was way overrated. I have never been that into short score-first PGs. Phil Jackson's history shows that there's a very minuscule chance he would be brought here also.
Lawson wasn't a bad idea but I do agree that the risk is a bit too much. I'd rather grab he cheap and low hanging fruit of a Wroten or a DL guard and wait for the summer for the big move.
