Fisher's firing makes the situation in ny seem dysfunctional again. The allegations about messing around with his players' women makes his firing more understandable. But it still feels like another reset. Melo is too good and too old for that. It might be the best thing for all parties. However, I think Melo is very underrated here by some and moving him is a huge risk.

I love Melo and he's playing great. But I just don't see us being a contending team by signing two more guys this summer or something. We need a bigger reset than that.
It's only fair to Melo to give him a chance to compete for a championship. A three-way with Boston and Cleveland could give us a lot of picks.

There could be a feeding frenzy for MELO! He's the one guy that is out there for a playoff team to add in order to give them a better shot to win a title.
Yeah, he could take either the Clippers or the Cavs up a notch to maybe get them on the level of the Warriors - or closer to that level.
I said before this is the best time to trade Melo - it really is. For team building, etc. But also because he will be at a PREMIUM price right now.
and you'd find to find a team dumb enough to trade for him and his bad knees. Cleveland is definitely one of time

nah man. Not as big a risk as keeping him and watching him go the H20 route before our eyes and setting us back another decade+ At least we have a chance now with shrewd moves and some luck in the draft. At worst we would have a young team to rally around with a hopefully a new winning culture and system in place. As long as we don't pull anymore Melo type deals and mortgage all our assets again in one swoop. I don't get the sense Phil would do that even if Dolan were to pressure him. This gives us a chance to be good in 5yrs. Maybe 10 but not 15-20+ years. Hopefully Phil has another 10yrs in him to complete the job

yea there would be no reason to dump Rolo. His contract will no longer hinder our cap space. We will have plenty of cap space. Lopez would be very valuable on our young team. Can't just dump a guy like him and have a young team with no leaders. We already went through that with Lee, Frye & Nate. You don't want to ruin your young players. Mozzy is a perfect backup to Lopez and Porzingis. We wouldn't be that far off from competing if we can sign a quality guard or draft one

I thought he was totally back when he turned his ankle. I think He aggravated his knee issue in that first game back when he played 49 minutes. You could see that the ankle was giving him trouble. Why he was left in and played 49 minutes made no sense. 42 minutes in the next game was a mistake as well.

You know, I don't even mind the stuff Melo says these days. I have come around on him and respect him more than I used to. I like the bluntness and honesty that comes from him in interviews like this. It's better than being fake, communicating through anonymous sources, and gives fans some meat to work with. I definitely don't feel sorry for him but I don't hate on his wanting to get a chip and realizing he's only got so many years left.

Probably. Well he still wants to be here for the moment, even if there is a shadow of a hint of a caveat crumb that can give Berman something to bring back to the sports desk.
EDIT: also to add, I'll still give him credit for wanting to be here. It's saying something. Because honestly, Melo is a future first ballot HOF and so many great players never get a chip. It says something if part of him just wants to go in as a Knick, even if he doesn't get a chip.

It is a high risk/ high reward deal and a Melo/Lebron tandem if healthy legit has a high chance to win some rings.
On the flip side the Knicks would suck this year, next year (when they have their pick) and probably the year after that but they would have enough picks to be a good young team to build around KP. I keep saying this but the Knicks would probably come away with a lot of picks. Ainge offered a ridiculous amount of picks to move up the draft last year. The Knicks facilitating them getting Love and likely only taking Lee and cap filler would have to equal a bunch of picks.

We would but if we get the Brooklyn pick we have a legit shot at getting Ben Simmons. With how good Golden State is we might want to construct a roster that starts to get good in 3 or 4 seasons.
