The Knicks are so devoid of talented guards they absolutely must sign every available young player that has a chance of being a rotation player within the next three season... holy shit its bad... I'm not trying to make Schved into a deity or anything like that but if the team was adding to Langston and Schved, I'd feel that things were bad but I wouldn't think it's the catastrophe that it is now

I wonder why NY does not bring in one of these guys, what is there to lose? I agree that the chances of another Lin are small but what the heck! I would emphasize defensive, good driver and good shooter and bring in 2 D-League guards, now. 1 PG and 1 SG. Have them start the next game and learn on the fly.

Calderon, buy out and stretch.
AA - make his life miserable so he doesnt re-up.
Gallo\Grant - may get re-inspired - they would be the backups.

This happens when you have an organization run by forwards (phil and kurt) plus a triangle system that values forwards over guard talent

That just cam't be the answer from a team that is constantly being beat down by every guard tandem in the league. Our situation is past horrible. Tired of seeing these half-assed efforts on defense. And don't forget, these efforts were witnessed by DFish for over a year. At least Rambis ispaying lipservice to our defensive lapses.

We don't even have to stretch Jose. We can just cut lose the dead weight. Early and Lou are doing nothing for the team. Sasha is another dead wieght holding us down but they will never cut him due to their obsession with the triangle.

Any word on if/when McCallum cleared waivers? Out of McCallum, Frazier and Wroten--if I had to pick only 1 it would be McCallum. Just prefer his game more and feel like he has the most staying power of the 3. Would love McCallum and Wroten. No reason not to cut Vujacic or Amundson to give Wroten a look. Should be as automatic as filling the 15th spot with a promising young player. Two moves that should be made in unison. McCallum/Wroten would make these last 20 games very exciting to watch.

I looked it up -- released players with some kind of guaranteed money left on their contracts take 48 hours to get through waivers (during this time, any team making the claim would have to be under the cap enough to add the player's remaining salary or add it using a trade exception they may have)--after the 48 hour period is up, they are treated as ordinary free agents:

I believe McCallum was waived by SA sometime on February 29. Should be good to go by tomorrow. This is our guy. He's got a pro game and I think he could stick. Would be a nice addition. Go get this kid and then get greedy and figure out a way to add Tony Wroten too.

Last 20 games we should bring in Christian Wood and one of the guards. Release Admundson but guess what we wont do it. Well be playing the same old sckers the rest of the way while we go 6-14 to end the year no matter who plays

I think Mccullom, Frazier or Wroten would immediately show their talent in practice against our guys. I can't see any of our guys "pushing around" these 3. Plus Rambis wants defense and all 3 guys have the ability to bring it defensively.

Christian Wood is a nice name too. I just think the forwards are locked up. Nobody is going to come off the street and take minutes from our forwards. That's something for summer league and training camp

Agreed. I like Wood too but he'll be there when the time comes like you said--SL, training camp etc..Take the time to audition a couple of promising young guards right now. Double down and bring in not 1 but two of these guys--I like McCallum and Wroten. Wroten's growing on me big-time. He's only 22--big guard with a lot of skills and versatility. With repetition, I think he will become a passable/decent shooter, just needs to get a ton up in practice and then take quality shots. The rest of his game is potent and has the chance to be high quality. There's a lot of written opinion out there about this kid being a left-handed Tyreke Evans. I think there's a lot of truth to that. I also like that he wants in, wants to be here...I'd like to think we'll be able to acquire a 2nd rounder somehow but what if we can't? Phil needs to be aggressive here--fill the 15th spot with McCallum, then trim Sasha or Amundson and bring in Wroten--then go out of your way to get both some court time! It's our best and only play right now. Play the hand you're dealt...Excellent points btw about Wood not taking time away from KP, LT, KOQ etc. and also about it being difficult to picture any of these guards getting outplayed in practice by what's already here (Jose, Galloway, Sasha). I can't picture that either.

Is is weird to anyone that NO team has made an effort to sign Wroten? Am I missing something?

We don't know the whole story. I think Wroten wants to be here and is giving the Knicks the time to figure that out. I posted that before. Wroten tweeted twice about signing with the Knicks and deleted the tweets. So i think the Knicks are just waiting till thsee buyout players figure out where they wanna go. We'll figure that out soon I guess.

OK, if Wroten REALLY wanted to sign on with the Knicks, he would be playing in Westchester and practicing with team.

Wonder why Wroten did choose to do a stint in he DL to stay sharp. Opportunity to showcase himself a little.. Long time to sit out and not play somewhere...No matter--I'm in. He's a big do-it-all guard that should appeal to Phil.
Finestrg @ 3/3/2016 11:58 AM
I'm not as optimistic as some are that we'll be able to fix the backcourt to our satisfaction through the draft and FA. Let's look at worst case scenario: No picks and who knows if we'll be able to acquire one, even a 2nd rounder. I fear the asking price may be through the roof (our full cash allotment over $3mm, Grant, the rights to Willy--I want to keep those few assets, and that's a ton for a pick around 40-50+). Also not super excited about the big FA guards. I like Batum but has anyone seen his numbers lately? Dude's barely shooting 40% overall, not shooting great from 3 either. Afflalo has better offense numbers. Now Batum contributes in other areas, granted, but the bottom line is he's gonna want a ton of money, maybe max money. Hard to justify that for a guy barely shooting 40%--and you know we'll have to overpay anyone to get them to come here. Same deal with Mike Conley who I don't love anyway. I fear this guy's gonna use us the whole way to get the best contract he can for himself. If we come in with a max deal for Conley, I predict Memphis lets him go. They don't want him back for that amount of money...Speaking of AA, nobody wants him back--I might be the only one--so nobody will be happy with that. Jordan Clarkson's not leaving LA.. And Phil and co. apparently don't care about some of these better DL guards like Russ Smith, Sean Kilpatrick, Terrico White etc.--I think there's good value there but apparently the Knicks don't. So what's left after that?? I think that's why we maximize the opportunity in front of us right now by adding McCallum AND Wroten. As long as Wroten's healthy, I'm in. I'll even deal with some rust. It's more about cultivating talent for next year and beyond anyway at this point.

Yeah this is incredibly strange to me.
