This is a good article to show Rambis' thinking on why the young guys don't get much playing time and why the vets do but it makes me think that Phil gave Rambis some type of guarantee that if he wins a certain amount of games he'll get the full time head coaching job. Now this is just my opinion and of course i have no idea but some things in this article can make it look like that's what's happening.

rambis ain't coaching next year. Maybe he can play with his triangle rubber ducks in his bathtub.
if phil does not get a real coach like ainge did with brad stevens and brings in another idiot triangle puppet than he may get run out of town. Oh wait ... he aint here
Of course Rambis wants the gig.
Of course he discusses his players with Phil.
Of course he wants to win.
And when the toots play better, they play more.
Rambis is 3-7 and 2 losses have been with us having leads late in the 4th blowing them with Melo way off shooting wise down the stretch (Indiana, Boston).
We're not that bad with Rambis, not when you compare to what the team was playing like the 10 games before Rambis was hired. Some seem to think Rambis was hired at 22-22. This team was on a nose dive, which has somewhat settled. We're still in a major rut, but we're a bit more competitive now having won I think 3 of the last 8 specifically.
He's not doing this to get a job next year, he's doing this so the team knows exactly what they have right now, and where they can add/where they can start to unload. For instance everyone wants Afflao and Calderon off the team, but would they really be bad as backups next year? I don't know about that. I think if that was our 2nd unit backcourt next year we'd be a better team. We need changes with the starters in the backcourt and also some bench guys, but how many? That's the question the have to ask. What guys do you want to bring back and what guys do you send packing.
Continuity is important in franchise growth. If you completely dump this team and just bring back Melo/KP next year it'll accomplish little. What'll accomplish far more is if you bring back the same type of team, only with a massive upgrade at point or guard. Then you look at your bench and where you can improve there. You've got some young players in KP and Grant who can come back better next year. A good team has about 10 players that know the system they are playing and style of play. If we can realistically add 2 or 3 quality players over the summer, that means we still need to bring back around 7 of the guys of our top 10 this year.
There has to be a system in place. I don't want to cheer for a team that thinks is ok to play players just because. If a rookie or a struggling player is not earning their minutes then they should not play. That's how it should be. There has to be a standard we have to stand for.
Our whole backcourt sucks. Playing Grant just because we're not making the playoffs is a loser mentality. Grant needs to know if he wants to start, he has to play better than Calderón and Galloway. He has yet to do that. Therefore he shouldn't play just because.
It makes me sad as a fan and as a man in general to hear people talk against this grain. This is why our kids get trophies and medals even if they are terrible. You have to earn what comes to you not get mad because someone won't just give you something.
I absolutely feel we need to stand for something as a franchise. The Knicks seem to be making that stance but fans actually want to except this loser lifestyle.
If you want to flip what I said and talk about record then you missed the point.
he may actually want to make the playoffs
Rambis is the biggest idiot ever. If now is not the time to play Grant, then it never will be. If he cares about next year then play they guy thats going to be playing the next year. He says "there may be a time but I'm not there yet" WTF?????? Are you fuking kidding me??? NOW IS THE FUKING TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure he's waiting until we're mathematically out of the playoff race which miraculously we're not yet.

Fans in NY are irrelevant. You know this.
No one take them serious and for good reason.
Absolute majority of fans need to see team winning NOW not after...
They do not give a fck about process, continuity, team building, assets, strategy, etc.
That's why fans must be ignored.

you mean the ones who keep beeyatching relentlessly thinking it's going to change anything?
Maybe Rambis has noticed that tanking was already done fairly recently.
