Knicks · Gotta hand it to Melo - he seems committed. Talking about recruiting this summer. (page 2)
I really hope Phil figures out how to trade Melo. I am tired of this carousel of patchwork "maybe it will work" players that have come to NY to help Melo chase a playoff run. Its not going to work..... Its just not. Also even if they get Rondo....
Why?
I mean The 2017 FA is all better PG's so to appease Melo and "look" better the knicks will get Rondo..... and accomplish nothing again except starting the clock on when reporters will be able to say again "The knicks have the worse starting PG in the league".

2017 for Melo considering his physical is some scary distant future...
Plus Rondo will be what Melo wants - sidekick.
Many 2017 class FAs are Alfa-dogs and Melo only can be the sidekick for them.

With or without Melo Knicks haven't been very good. Asides from that one year under Kidds leadership.

I'll take it one step further: it took GS, now with all-world player Curry, 4 years until he and the team were able to finish a season at .500.4 years. Not 1 season of 17 wins and then .500, 3 years of suck and then .500.
Patience is important - but let's be honest about the differences - GSW had all their own draft picks and Curry was a rookie.
If you're saying this is how we build around KP - okay I'm on board with that.
But if we're building around Melo, we need to get a little lucky in FA as well as the draft.
Also, GSW got an all-star with the 35th pick in the draft in Draymond Green - something that is quite rare. It can happen, but it is quite rare.
Every situation is different. My understanding is that Phil is trying to build a championship team, whether around KP or Melo, it don't matter. He's building the Knicks.
I think pretty much every championship team is lucky somehow. We just got KP. Gotta build on that.
And be patient.
That's the important part that's too difficult for NYers. But Dolan (and the impatient fans he serves) keep making us take steps backwards. Phil is trying to change that mindset. Let's hope he's successful.

Think only the real Melo haters, as you say, make this about Melo. Think the point is we have a good player in Melo who is now sharing the ball. A decent center in Rolo. And finally, a draft pick with good potential. We are obviously still missing pieces including consiatent PG, good outside shooting and some added bench help but most don't see that it's not about blaming your star player or just simply pressing the reset button. Feel this is the same frustrated, impatient, knee jerk "NY get it done in a minute" attitude that has consistently kept us in this situation. Cant be unrealistic to the many challenges of starting with just KP and a whole bunch of draft picks. It's a puzzle many teams have tried to figure out with little success.
Think biggest challenge this off season is attracting a good PG willing to play in the Triangle. Which btw, few available. Would love to add a guy like Batum and play Melo at the 4 and Have KP off the bench so he will get more touches. But sorry, off topic.

I don't think we'd be able to afford Afflalo in that scenario - but swap in Lance Thomas for Afflalo and I think that's pretty realistic.
Though Charlotte is playing great right now and Batum may not want to leave? Who knows.
It will be possible to upgrade this summer. I just hope we can get a few guards.
One duo of guards that is talented that seems somehow more realistic to me is Brandon Jennings and Eric Gordon.

Like it. Only worry with Rondo is baggage he brings with his inability, in the past, to adapt to change or differences in opinion. Specially when he has already voiced his opinion against the Triangle. Domt think he will be receptive to Zen mind games.
Batum will be a plus in either regard. IMO

pass on hack-a-rondo. He ain't nearly as good as you think and he certainly ain't triangle worthy. Dude gets a pick set on the ball for him on almost every play in his career.
I would love to have rondo here next year just for the theatrics when he blows up goes apeshit about the silly triangle.

That is Phil doing his job not Melo recruiting. So far Melo has a nothing to show. When do players come here saying they came because of Melo.
