The guy is just so so solid--hes been playing great for Dallas. I really HOPE that they do what they can to bring Lee back to NY--we have the two bigs KP and Lopez who really would have a good synergy with him--hes a solid player--I hope they can get it done.

He would be a great back up pf our front court is top 10 in the NBA
Lopez,willy,koq

Melo,dwill,cle early

It's our back court that is the BIGGEST need for improvement I expect Phil to go after top 2 guards like derozen or even beal if he can pry him away. If fail go after rondo and Gordon
But yes I miss lees grit and vet leadership. Lee would be a icing on the cake deal if Phil makes major improvements to the worst back court in the league

The other night Lee was really hustling on the D--with KP and Lopez--they kind of got his back--and he has the skills that compliment them as well. This would be a great 3 year deal--let D lee finish his career as a Knick--as long as hes not asking for something that is over the top. 3 years 12-15mm
I love DLee... and we do need another serviceable big man. But man alive, do we need guards.
If we can get him on an affordable deal and still sign two other guards, I'd be interested.
Briggs, say we get Conley, DLee, Courtney Lee. You think we'd win more than 35 games?
Conley, Grant, Wroten
C Lee, Galloway
Melo, Lance Thomas, Early
KP, DLee
Rolo, Hernangomez
would still like to try to get another young guard or two on the roster and not convinced Early will stick next season. And maybe another athletic backup big man.
Yeah...comes down to how much $$ he would want.
You would think that he's a good player for the Triangle...good passer, has a midrange shot, some interior moves, can set a pick, rebound, willing to cut to the basket...
We also have some shot blockers to make up for his defensive issues.
For the right price I think Jackson would take a look at him.

of course we win more than 35 games. Almost impossible not to.

Yeah, I'm just refering to Briggs saying in another thread if the Knicks added Conley and Courtney Lee they'd only win 35 games.

healthy melo? Don't see how they can't be as good as this year + a PG? I say we win 42-45 games.
The issue is Conley and Melo's long term health. When we got Kidd of course we got much much better but it was a terrible move (though we got lucky)
How about this for an off season if Affalo walks and we stretch Calderon giving us about 34mm

ok ... the trade is silly but I can handle the rest of it.
I think if David Lee wants to be here we should make room for him. Kyle O'Quinn and Seraphin have been busts for us. They both aren't consistent and engaged enough to be trusted to make good basketball plays. David Lee is everything we expect our back up forward to be. Plus we all know he can start if we need him to. He would so awesome to rotate in behind KP, Melo and Rolo.
I think we need to pawn O'Quinn off to the highest bidder. Maybe he could go to Brooklyn so he can stay near his family. That could help us get the money to fit David Lee.
I know we need the backcourt revamped but we can't close the door on an obvious upgrade to our team. Hermangomez will help too, still need what David brings on and of the court.

I'd do that - though I don't think we can trade the 2017 pick.
And I'd much rather have Conley if he wants to come here. But Rondo and Crabbe would be a helluva backcourt upgrade.
Trading a future pick for this year's pick makes a ton of sense. Thank you for not making me read through another trade Melo thread.
I'm not a Rondo fan but putting Crabbe next to him is the way you have to do it. It's Crabbe skilled enough to actively contribute? Seems like a role player type like that bum Danny Green.

Basically this would be KP playing a good deal of 5 and coming out after 5-6 minutes and rotating KP and Lopez at 5. Were not winning a championship next year--but with the addition of a lot of young legs--we will be an exciting up and coming team who can compete with team sand should get better as the year goes on. The only thing missing here is an athletic shot blocker for the next 10 guys--im sure we could do something about that--we dont need Galloway any more.

So basically you have zero faith that phil in his 3RD OFF SEASON can't put together a contender with his resource's, his 11 rings and triangle personality..
I like DLee, but he would be last on the list of things to do, like dead last.
i wouldnt mind Lee at all. as long as we can acknowledge that hes old and not good anymore. never could play defense and now its even worse with age/injuries. but hes a good guy and i always rooted for him.
does he really want to come back to the knicks? idk. i just know its Free agency rule 101 to mention new york as a destination in order to drive up the price

There are teams in the NBA who dont even lose. Either you try to build something without circumventing the process every two years or you suffer, Believe me if I was running the Knicks Carmelo would be gone this offseason even though I know hes the best player on the team right now. Why by the time we have anything hes done--so id rather scoop up now and build--or we regurgitate mediocrity.

This current roster was mostly put together last summer. Not being able to build a Title Contender in TWO OFFSEASONS is not a knock on Phil. It's one of the most difficult things to do. Only way to beat the system is when you can add a Tim Duncan, KG+Allen or Lebron and Bosh. Other than that it takes time to build a contender from nearly nothing.
SO going into this offseason Phil has to build on what he put together last summer after practically gutting the roster. It fits a negative narrative to mention 3 offseasons but we all know that last summer was his 1st truly significant shot to bring in new talent. There was some progress made despite the losing season. The frontcourt is pretty strong. This summer continues the process. David Lee is a fine player but clearly he's WAY down the list of needs for this team. After we fix the backcourt situation i'd have no problem if we could fit him in somehow. Lee just isn't a priority in any way.
I wouldn't say he's way down in the list. You need to have a mix of youth and veterans. Rolo and Melo for the bill. O'Quinn doesn't. David Lee would solidify the front court along with Hernangomez. It would bring nice balance to the front court. Lee is a chemist guy too.
