Knicks · Kerr and Walton refute the Daily News/Post Reports (page 2)

not for nothing but unless it's wojo reporting something, i pay absolutely no attnetion to it and i don't believe it for a second.

Notice that the people who are so quick to refute the article about Phil talking to Walton and say the media are idiots... are using a media article as their proof of this.

We know Phil tampers. He was fined for it twice already - for talking to Fisher in 2014 and for talking about D'Angelo Russell in 2015.

Kerr, if you read between the lines, basically acknowledged that Walton talked to Phil and he's okay with it. But he asked him to wait til the playoffs were over, or at least til they were on a series break.

There's zero doubt in my mind Phil talked to Walton about the Knicks job - there are ways of conveying information in a "friendly conversation" other than explicitly saying "I would like to interview you for this job."

I love that people think the media is making this up.

What exactly is so hard to believe about ANY of this? Walton is clearly the top remaining guy Phil has that could coach the Triangle. Is it really so hard to believe he'd test the waters to see if Walton was interested in the gig?

This isn't made up media non-sense... it's common sense.

i get it but who cares? i dont care if phil tampers, i HOPE he tampers, i just want him to get the guy he wants.

crzymdups wrote:The Daily News never said there was a job interview. It just said that Walton made it clear he wasn't interested in the job. Have you guys never done that? Someone sort of half offers you an opportunity to gauge your interest and you say not interested? This is the way the world works.

Walton wasn't interested enough in the job to even interview.

Post did:

Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton already has interviewed with several teams about their head-coaching vacancies, including the Knicks and Nets, according to multiple NBA sources.

http://nypost.com/2016/04/17/phil-jackso...

This is what Daily News put out, I guess it's nuanced in a different way:

According to sources, Jackson reached out to the Golden State assistant in a phone conversation recently, following through on his pledge to only speak to those in his circle – or is it triangle? – about their interest in coaching the Knicks. However, the Daily News learned that Walton told his former Lakers coach he wasn’t currently interested in the job.

Right. That to me is not an interview. That to me is Phil saying in a phone conversation "would you be interested in talking about this coaching opening I have?" and Walton saying "not at this time." Not an interview, so plausible deniability on all sides.

So you say that the Daily News never said anyone actually interviewed Luke and then Martin shows you where the Daily News did say that Luke has already interviewed with multiple teams and then you say right but i don't consider that an interview. Hahahaha The Daily DID say that Luke has had interviews and they were wrong.

There are stories all over the internet saying Walton has talked to at least two teams, however formally. The Daily News didn't say "interview" they said "spoke with".

Believe whatever you want!

Wow, just read the very first line.

http://nypost.com/2016/04/17/phil-jackso...

Not that it matters much, but why are you posting a NY Post article when crzy's argument is about the Daily News, not the Post?

I don't see Luke leaving GS, but I don't doubt that Phil would be willing to put his money where his mouth is to get his guy. Tampering has been fair game with him to some extent.

I find it hilarious how Phil phoning someone he has a relationship with to informally gauge their interest in coaching the Knicks somehow morphs into all this media bullshit.

I'm not sure how it blows out of control though. Almost every person here probably had Walton on the list of guys they thought Phil would reach out to - he's a former Triangle player for Phil, Phil got him started in coaching, etc.

My prediction - Phil has Rambis coach in 2016-7. Walton stays in GSW for the three-peat. Phil makes the offer again next off-season. Walton will be choosing between Knicks, Lakers, and maybe Warriors if Kerr is ready to retire or scale back due to health issues.

100% agree.

Only one caveat, and I don't know if the timelines work for having a coach in place. If Phil strikes gold in the offseason via extra draft picks or signs some free agents that are awesome or if Melo asks for trade and it yields something tantalizing, then I think Walton will pause and consider. Low to nil chance at happening but still

If Phil wants Rambis so bad, what's stopping him from naming him already? It's Phil's call to make and he's saying he wants to talk to other people. He already knows Rambis is a good assistant and perhaps that's still how he sees him.

None of this type of stuff is appealing to the outsiders looking in who may have interest in joining this org. Its not really about fans caring about what media says about the team in order to protect there feelings. Its more like Brah these next 2 off seasons are huge for the team going forward. The last thing we need is to hurt our chances at anything positive by having the perception of a circus like atmosphere.

I agree with all of this with the added caveat that Kerr and Walton both respect Phil enough to not cost him money for tampering so he and walton are downplaying it. Walton is likely still the top candidate but outside of Phil saying "I'll wait until the playoffs are over to let you decide" I doubt they went into details. However, I am pretty sure Walton is still in play for the HC job this year. You got to strike when the fire is hot and I doubt he'll get a chance to go 39-4 again as the coach while being an assistant next year. If he wants to be a HC this is the time to do it.

not for nothing but unless it's wojo reporting something, i pay absolutely no attnetion to it and i don't believe it for a second.

This isn't made up media non-sense... it's common sense.

i get it but who cares? i dont care if phil tampers, i HOPE he tampers, i just want him to get the guy he wants.

he already has the guy he wants in rambi-puppet

you are just tilting and spitting at this point

I don't tilt. Mind always open and not going on emotional fumes. Blind and desperate knick fans are the epitome of tilt.

Not sure what you would call this thread. Seems tilted to me.

Call it what you want but I find it ironic that someone who preaches about analytics so readily embraces pure fiction.

I am really sorry that a respected writer like Harvey Araton took some deserving shots at your man-Crush.

What is ironic is that I know exactly what melo is/was and what melodick policemen like you refused to admit.

Then, guess what??? He changed his game this year. I thought melo could not change? But he could - he just did not want to before.

But wait ... melo just has much better players around him now. That is why he is so much less selfish. Yeah ... how good does that look now?

Araton wrote a piece airing out what all of us non-blind KNICK fans felt about our selfish star. You don't like it? Then don't fukking read it.

It was written based on anger, emotions and fiction. Just a reminder when you tell others your responses aren't based on emotions. Nothing open minded about that article.

You posted a fictional article because it agreed with how you felt about Melo. Seems like a non data driven emotional response.
