Since Phil has been here there's been a bunch of reports that turned out to be completely false.... even back to when we drafted KP.... there was all these reports that phil was trading the rights to the pick to get more picks and reporting other things and then Phil comes out and does what was thought as the unthinkable thanks to piss poor reporting. No one heard any rumors on the Jerian Grant trade.
Fast forward to last off season when greg Monroe was supposed to be a done deal only for Monroe to come out and say he never considered the Knicks. Then flipping that to say Phil can't attract free agents because of the triangle.
I can key on so many other reports especially the recent ones talking about Phil reaching out to Luke Walton which Phil and golden state both said was false.
While I'm thinking about it, i'll add the "phil wants out of ny badly and wants to go back to the Lakers" report... completely false.
A stand must be taken... these reporters can't just have the fans spinning around causing all this drama for no good reason other than cause mayhem.....and then espn has big segments where their talking heads go on tirades based on false information. Then you wonder why we can't attract free agents and coaches.

Then you have Steven A Smith going on a tirade on ESPN talking shit. There is no way that any FA that had interest before would want to come to the circus that the media is creating.
But they get away with it because just like you see in the mini camp thread. People are going to eat it up.
They are practically sabotaging his job. Painting a certain picture of the Knicks to the public and killing interest.
You are right and you often advise others to watch actual interviews rather than going with an interpetation of a quote out of context. But the media is ridiculous. The Knicks are in the news everyday again being portrayed as a stupid, dysfunctional franchise. This is occurring when the most successful coach in nba history is running a mini camp. But look at how stirred up and excited people got last summer when Araton wrote a fictional article about reading Phil's mind and the message it was sending Melo. He could have prefaced the article by saying this is purely fiction and it would not have mattered. I think using caution and having a filter for the ny media is required to be a Knick fan. Isola is looking to take any cheap shot he can at this point.
I think its called reporters privilege, they don't have to name sources, that's y stuff 'like an anonymous said' is looked at badly cause so much reporters were caught just making stuff up.

There is a reason I called the media the toughest team in New York. They have no morals and no rules. They will write and say anything to stir the pot in NY. All at the expense of the team. I know free agents don't want to come to the Knicks not because of the Knicks but more because of the Media. They scare players away. They enjoy painting the Knicks as dysfunctional organization and the media causes it.

In contrast... the brooklyn nets hired Kenny Atkinson and they didn't push the Thibbs, Mark Jackson agenda on them. Is only reserved for the Knicks. The Nets have been a far worse franchise as far as building up a true team. They gave up their soul to KG and PP... if it were the Knicks it would have been a circus. The state of the Nets now is atrocious.

You wouldn't bring that up if you read my initial post. None of those teams routinely have to deal with false reports and the talking heads at espn.

well to be fair those teams have won recently. Its simple you win...you get praised by the media. I love the Knicks but I don't feel the need to protect them from the media

Not really the same since the way player movement works in those leagues is different. That said, the Yanks and Mets have been less of a FA factor than they have in the past. I do think the media here is a deterrent to the modern athlete. Maybe things will change but the extra ridicule you get here vs other places isn't even close (Cowboys and Lakers only comparable teams in all of sports I can think of under a similar microscope. Maybe Red Sox).
Football FA is different because of the way player movement works but I don't think many would sign-up to deal with the nonsense Eli has endured over the years. I can't remember the Islanders signing anybody noteworthy in recent years. The large majority of their contributors were acquired via the draft or trade. Same goes for the Rangers.

You are right the double standard between the Knicks and Nets is there. NY is still Knicks town and ratings are the Knicks you reach more mass with the Knicks.
For some reason the media sees Phil as competition and they want to beat him and his rings. There is nothing more the media wants then to take someone down from their perch. It makes for ratings.
I would seriously urge you stop watching ESPN and forget the Papers. You want reporting just watch NBA tv. The funny thing is ESPN calls the Knicks a dog with fleas but ESPN is the dog with fleas for Walt Disney.

I absolutely do not watch espn or read any newspaper. If something knicks related is "reported" you can't help but react but you have to do it with your third eye open. I only trust knicks.Com for knick news. They have been an open book to what's going on. Especially Phil. They post all interviews and practices.you can see for yourself what's happening. No need for the media. Also with twitter, bleacher report, yahoo, knicks fan blogs.... there's plenty of outlets to get genuine information.
My mantra is we as fans have to stick together. Most fans ignore that and jump on the media spin

We don't brutality suck. The Nets do... so does Philly.... but no lets just pick on the Knicks and let's agree and contribute to that drama as fans of the team.... that is what brutally sucks
The reporters with the best sources will use them properly, and hopefully try to get confirmation from one source on the info they get from another source.
Also have to know when to back off a questionable story, and you have to think that some sources have agendas and tailor their stories to fit their agenda.
Big markets have big competition, and if someone from the Post says something is blue, you know that News columnist will say it is green. Par for the course in NYC.
I just don't get upset with this kind of stuff anymore...just have to attempt to sift through the BS to get to truth. Not easy, but the truth usually emerges at some point.
