Dr. FrankenPhil:
Yes, one part Shaw, One part Rambis and the head of Vogel!!!
Does it work that way, we have "coordinators" in basketball or perceived ones? I get some assistants are stronger than others.
so now the ABR (anyone but rambis)is in full effect!
Perhaps now people can understand if Phil is patient in his naming of a new Head Coach. There's no need to panic and rush a signing. He can wait and see what happens with a guy like Vogel. Even if Phil was to miss out on every other coaching option he can still be patient and stick with Rambis for this season if necessary. Vogel would be an excellent option.

perhaps now you can understand how we feel since the "even if" option in your statement above is an absolutely disgusting option. insert hoodwinked bamboozled and all other SAS rants.
Bird letting him go would be making a change for the sake of change. He's a fantastic coach, one of the better in the league.

Rambis is not yet the Head Coach for next season, but having him there means Phil doesn't have to panic in his coaching search. He knows Rambis and has worked with him for many years and won titles with him. Even if you and others don't like Rambis he's an option if Phil can't sign one of the top options he's looking at. There's a certain strength in knowing that. So Phil can search without any panic or feeling of dread as if he had no one at all to fall back on.
This really would be a perfect fit and this would really explain why the team is moving so slowly

uhuh yeah... rambis is an option like you or i or john mcenroe are options.
I'm in the anyone but Rambis camp.
Also, with great team defense being Vogel's calling card, it's definitely something the Knicks been lacking for awhile.
“He’s got a great boss, one of the legends of the game,” Vogel said last season, referring to then-coach Derek Fisher. “It’s a good situation, a long-term contract and chance to rebuild it the right way.”The 42-year-old Vogel, a graduate of Wildwood High School, has a 250-181 record with the Pacers in six seasons, but Bird has never seemed a big fan. Vogel’s job has been said to be in jeopardy in past years. He would seem a perfect fit if front-runner Kurt Rambis agrees to slide over as the offensive coordinator of the triangle.
According to sources, Knicks owner James Dolan felt Vogel outcoached Mike Woodson during the Knicks’ seminal six-game playoff defeat by the Pacers in 2013. The Knicks carried a 54-28 record into the second-round series before being upset — the pivotal moment coming when Carmelo Anthony was blocked at the rim by Roy Hibbert late in the fourth quarter of Game 6.

huge fan of vogel. He's one of the few with that "it" factor, that can win games at critical moments with the right play calling.
He also seemed to enjoy working with SHaw. WOuld be interesting to see if Shaw would accept some form of associate role
oh man this would be awesome.

I really think Rambis lacks it. It's a weird, intangible quality the best coaches have. And I think you need it for the players to respect you. Vogel has it. Blatt may not even have it - part of his problem with Lebron. Rambis does not have it. I'm sorry, he doesn't. Just my two cents, but I think there is something to that air of authority and excellence as a coach. Some guys got it, some don't. Vogel has it. Do other guys see that quality in Rambis? I just don't. He's a lieutenant, not a general.
That's how I feel about Vogel exactly. I saw he had it when we played then in the playoffs a few years back. He has that borderline arrogant edge. His team's took that persona on. I love the guy.
Yeah, maybe it's giving your team confidence. I agree the Indy team feeds off his confidence.
Didn't realize Vogel is only 42! Man, it'd be great to lock that guy in.
this is destiny ... c'mon phil ... you got your softball opportunity, grab it!

Nothing in Indy has been determined. Contain yourself man!!!
Wasn't Vogel a bit of a smug @sshole calling out Woodson's coaching, not using Cope enough etc? Not sure if the Knicks should go there. I wonder if Vogel would want a redo on Cope after seeing him as such an unused weapon in ny.

To be fair he was right. The Knicks became a second seed playing small ball and shooting the three (not much unlike the system GSW use)and then just gave that up because Woodson wanted to go big even though he didn't have the personnel to pull it off.
To add insult to injury that same need "to go big" was one of the main reasons given for trading for Bargnani.

He didn't have many healthy players. Not sure anymore who got bumped for size. Kidd was done though and JR fell a part after his incident with Jason Terry. Tyson was dominated by Hibbert.

i agree with this. It's one of those odd things like a shooter and confidence (chicken and egg). If he has confidence, he hits his shots and begets more confidence. if not, then...
the other thing i like about him is his defense has been consistently good but you didn't get the Thibs criticisms of killing his players and hating his mgmt.
he's my number one choice right now. ANd keep in mind, we talk about triangle 24/7 it seems on this forum, but defense (particularly in the back court) was our major problem last year
Not only were we ineffective and stopping penetration etc. but we didn't generate any easy buckets to help our offensive number off of steals etc.

That's my thing with Phil and Rambis - they keep talking about the offense... defense was a big issue, too!
Yeah, I'd love to get Vogel with Rambis and/or Shaw for the Triangle offense. Let's build a frickin' super staff.
Vogel=No Excuses. We find out if our players are good or not.
Interesting development -- for sure.
We're going to live or die with the Triangle.
As long as Vogel is good to give Rambis the lead on
offense . . . and Rambis is good with that (I'd like
to think) . . . and maybe bring in Shaw, too . . .
then this might be one big happy Triangle family.
Vogel talks as if he admires that kind of thing (and
it's apparently not something he had in Indy):
"I was always a big fan of Phil and his approach".
So count me in for Vogel . . .
wonder how phil will feel about this recent Vogel quote:
“I’ve had to unlearn a lot of what I’ve believed in with offensive spacing because of the way the league plays today,” Vogel said. “That’s a challenge on the defensive end as well.
