Does it work that way, we have "coordinators" in basketball or perceived ones? I get some assistants are stronger than others.

Perhaps now people can understand if Phil is patient in his naming of a new Head Coach. There's no need to panic and rush a signing. He can wait and see what happens with a guy like Vogel. Even if Phil was to miss out on every other coaching option he can still be patient and stick with Rambis for this season if necessary. Vogel would be an excellent option.

Bird letting him go would be making a change for the sake of change. He's a fantastic coach, one of the better in the league.

This really would be a perfect fit and this would really explain why the team is moving so slowly

Also, with great team defense being Vogel's calling card, it's definitely something the Knicks been lacking for awhile.

huge fan of vogel. He's one of the few with that "it" factor, that can win games at critical moments with the right play calling.
He also seemed to enjoy working with SHaw. WOuld be interesting to see if Shaw would accept some form of associate role

Wasn't Vogel a bit of a smug @sshole calling out Woodson's coaching, not using Cope enough etc? Not sure if the Knicks should go there. I wonder if Vogel would want a redo on Cope after seeing him as such an unused weapon in ny.

To be fair he was right. The Knicks became a second seed playing small ball and shooting the three (not much unlike the system GSW use)and then just gave that up because Woodson wanted to go big even though he didn't have the personnel to pull it off.
To add insult to injury that same need "to go big" was one of the main reasons given for trading for Bargnani.

He didn't have many healthy players. Not sure anymore who got bumped for size. Kidd was done though and JR fell a part after his incident with Jason Terry. Tyson was dominated by Hibbert.

i agree with this. It's one of those odd things like a shooter and confidence (chicken and egg). If he has confidence, he hits his shots and begets more confidence. if not, then...
the other thing i like about him is his defense has been consistently good but you didn't get the Thibs criticisms of killing his players and hating his mgmt.
he's my number one choice right now. ANd keep in mind, we talk about triangle 24/7 it seems on this forum, but defense (particularly in the back court) was our major problem last year
Not only were we ineffective and stopping penetration etc. but we didn't generate any easy buckets to help our offensive number off of steals etc.

That's my thing with Phil and Rambis - they keep talking about the offense... defense was a big issue, too!
Yeah, I'd love to get Vogel with Rambis and/or Shaw for the Triangle offense. Let's build a frickin' super staff.
