Knicks · Is Phil Waiting For a Spur Assistant??? (page 3)

She wouldn't fail as long as the team is sufficiently upgraded this summer. This team with sketchy coaching was in a LOT of games in the final minutes. With better coaching (hopefully she's learned something from Pop) and better guard talent I think she could win in NY.

can't believe you guys ... if she is offered the job she takes it in a mili second.

Then I would have to question her decision making lol.

now thats funny!

Really though, she would be putting herself in position to fail. Being the first Woman head coach is already putting herself in an up hill battle. Y add more on top of that by going to a team that isn't ready made.

because when an opportunity like this is offered you never know if it would come around again.

If she is in the very shallow pool of widely-considered HC candidates and not yet 40 years old, I reckon another job opening will come around sooner than later!

I like Becky, but I'm not interested in the Knicks giving people their first shot at HC any more.

no way to know if a coach will fail or not.

same as there is no way to know if she'd come in the first place!

phil is either a complete bonehead or he is waiting for someone. He can talk to assistants with permission but maybe teams rather not give permission during the playoffs.

Ettore Messina? Seems like an up and comer.

Pretty sure boneheads don't win 11 championships but guys that underestimate them might be way off.

I hope that the HOF coach is not a bonehead president.

Not sure where to go with someone that thinks a coach that won a 11 championships might be a bonehead. How many championships do you need to win before you aren't a bonehead?

I didn't think there was an answer. Thanks for confirming that. You seem to not answer tough questions a lot.

Damn!! Phil is a genius! How cool would this be?

I have never seen a year with so many good coaches available. Would definately be a media frenzy if she was hired in NY. But then again, that would happen anywhere she goes as the first female NBA head coach. I actually think her first head coaching gig will be in Mens NCAA.

As for the Knicks, still feel Phil will hire Rambis so that things are done his way. Which unfortunately makes sense if he wants the Triangle to be implemented as he would. Hopefully I get shocked and Vogel gets hired. But think both Vogel and Blatt will be forced to take on Rambis as OC. Which is sure to push them to other opportunities with less restraints.

newyorker4ever @ 5/8/2016 9:52 AM
Ok you guys do know that Phil will not be giving the HC job to Becky and that he's not even considering her right?? This thread is getting a little out of hand now and even though the story would be great for women i do think there's still a bit of danger in hiring a woman to be the HC of your team in the NBA with all these alpha males that just wouldn't take being yelled at and talked to in a certain way from a woman and as soon as one player on the team has a problem with it it could spread through the locker room and all this is without saying how much she'd be able to take from our garbage azz new york media.

Why do you think of this s "forced"? Vogel seemed to appreciate Shaw, and I can see a similar arrangement with SHaw and/or Rambis. Indiana is a fine basketball organization, but I have the sense that Vogel knows that if he wants to take the next step as a coach he either needs someone like Phil or a super organization (e.g., Spurs) -- the latter of which isn't looking for him at the moment. Unlike Fisher, I get the sense Vogel would love to pick Phil's brain and would appreciate having Shaw or Rambis next to him.

Possibly. Hope that's the case. However, most coaches with that type of success already have their own formulas, ideas and plans of their own. Not to mention that thing called an ego. Just think they would prefer doing things their way. Specially if given the choice.

I hear you but Phil himself had to subvert his huge ego and embrace an assistant, namely Tex. When and if he and Vogel "commune" i hope Phil suggests to Vogel the path to success may require something like that again -- alway listen, always learn
